For all the Uk and posters and anybody else that would like to come,
a few of us have been talking about a possible meet up in december somewhere in the North of England if anybody is interested or has any ideas please let us know all ideas are welcome hopefully if it works out it maybe come a annual event i look forward to hearing your ideas
I think that's a wonderful idea. I hope you get the group together. Remember, even if you get only a few people you can still all have a good time.
I think it would be nice to have mini-meets throughout all the areas because we are so spread out that it's very hard (and for some expensive) for everyone to meet in only one spot.
You mates really need to do this. I promise you, from the experiences that we've had here in having dinners and meeting each other, that you won't regret it.
Well I did have to put up with meeting SC, , but what are ya gonna do.
Hopefully if we can get something sorted it would great and as you say even if there are only a few of us we would still have a great time anyone with any ideas please put them forward and we will take it from there, dont worry mig we will post plenty of pics although i think we would all be in a drunken state,I know DeNiros away at the minute so he should have some ideas when he sees this post.
Where is the infamous Turi Giuliano? I think he's a northerner. Don't you guys in the North of England talk funny?
I went to England on business once and travelled from London to Coventry to Chester to Liverpool and back. We Americans met Brits from North and South and you were funnin' with each other about accents and the like.....kinda like we do in the states. But I don't have an accent.
The short story is that loads of shit has gone on this year and I've crossed half way across the country with the missus and we've got our own flat in Manchester. Been here about 2 months and only just really got the internet sorted. Absolutely loving it here but now I'm living with a girl!!! It's overtaken Nottingham as the gun crime capital of England but I strangly feel safer here than I ever did in Scunthorpe.
Turi my man! How the fock are ya mate! We missed you big time. These boards are in dire need of some of that Turi style humor!
A missus now, huh? And re-location? Good for you. I hope that everything works out well for you and the little lady and I also hope to see you here a bit more now that you've settled in somewhat.
Football season is almost here mate. So I'll be talkin to ya!
Well, ain't that just peachy?? Turi's got a missus.
Very inconsiderate of him ... just because he probably wants some emotional attachment and comfort he goes out and finds himself a lady. You all know what that means... no more drinking and carousing every night... 4 bartenders, 3 hookers and a jail guard will all have to be laid off now.
Zaf we are open to ideas we will try and work it so that it is possible for everyone who is interested to come, dont worry about travel you only live ten minutes away from me if you wanted to come i would pick you up no problem.
This sounds like a great idea,im based in Nottingham which is in the Midlands so north and south is good for me,I would rather travel north as its more convieniant(sp) for me. But we should get together maybe late 07 early 08.
This thread is starting to remind me of the "Magnificent Seven" Every time another person says they are in i find myself holding up various amounts of fingers to the dog! Needless to say he is not impressed... But there again he is not invited so he would'nt be
I am going to suggest Newcastle for a few reasons 1. Its my home town so i don't have to travel far 2. It is a great party city! 3. I don't know if Capo could put anyone up but i could manage to stash a few bodies around...would save people on hotel rooms & stuff, more money for beer 4. Er...did i already mention it is my home town....
sounds good to me it takes me a hour and a half on the train from sheffield to Newcastle or I could go to Nottingham meet De Niro and travel up with him What do you think De Niro?
Good idea Yogi i love Newcastle drinking round the big Market etc me and mates used to go up once evry couple of months but we dont seem to anymore
Keep trying Chopper. There are a lot more UK people who haven't replied. Do you know how far Capo is from you? There is also DeNiro and his sister and of course Turi and more. It's possible you could get a nice size group.
Once you get the interest, then you can decide when and where. Good luck! I'll guarantee it'll be a lot of fun. I just wish I could join you guys.
Capo and Yogi are about a Hour and a half away from me DE Niro is about 35 to 40 minutes zaf the Don about 15 minutes im not to sure about other people ill have to wait and see who posts, i mean even if there was only five or six im sure it would still be great fun.
Wow, then you are all really close to one another. You shouldn't have a problem as far as distance then. Good luck and you're right, even a few people can make for a great time. I do hope this all works out.
Turi, you were from Scunthorpe? I work with a guy who comes from Scunthorpe, last name Shipp, but he left there about 40 years ago.
I'm Scunthorpe born and bred, been there all my life until about 2 months ago. I'm not surprised your colleague left. But even then it was more prosperous than it is now. Didn't he fancy a job as a Steelworker?
Seriously though I'm not sure, I honestly never have time for anything at the moment. This weekend it's the gay pride festival here, next 2 weekends got mates visiting, the week after I'm in Rome, and in the two months I've been here in Manchester I still haven't had a chance to visit Scunthorpe and that's high on my list.
Don't give up yet Chopper. I thought there were a few people who showed interest. Perhaps post a few possible dates or months and see if anyone shows a preference of a date to meet. I do hope it works out for you guys. Some people may be somewhat leary of meeting people they don't know though. Maybe that's part of it.
Well to be honest at first all i wanted people to do was judt throw a few ideas in where they would like to go what they would like to do etc... and then take it from there really, anyway the thread is always here if anyone wants to pick it up and go with it again, thanks for your support TIS
I have decided! Newcastle in the New Year. It will have to be in the New Year cos i am putting all my pennies into Santa's Xmas fund just now April would be good cos the light nights will be back. Hopefully Capo will be around then. Chopper and De Niro can get up together. Zaf and Turi might be able to make it..plenty of notice. We can sort places to stay in the New Year! I can sort out places to booze in There we are? Sorted! Oh yes,any of our US brothers and sisters are welcome to come too
Gald to hear it Yogi. I am sure even if only a few meet up, that it'll be great fun. Just keep everyone informed and the group may grow to a decent number.
I would LOVE to join you. Someday I may just be able to.

I'm telling you, someday I'm gonna talk some members of this BB to actually meet in Italy, and of course we'd have to stop off to see our UK friends. Wouldn't that be awesome?? I always did want to visit the UK.
Who stays in London? I have a remote chance of going through London on my trip home (which again might be in november, but odds are against it ) I could stay an extra half day in London if someone wants to meet
If I may butt in, I'm so glad to see you guys reviving this topic. I truly hope it works out for you.
A suggestion: Find the area that most live in (be it only two people or 6 or whatever), and strive for that vicinity. It most likely will be more travel for some than for others, but I think you'd get a larger turnout. Unless of course nobody minds traveling a little distance in which case it would open up more options. Just my two cents.
I am going to a few of these places tonight! It is some friends of ours wedding anniversary and a big crowd of us are going out to whoop it up We will start in the Three Bulls Head and move on from there
i think if it does happen it will be Yogi DE NIRO and Myself shame really but there you go
And if it's just the three of you, so be it. You should still do it. That's how it will start and I assure you eventually it will grow.
Hey, even if it doesn't, the three of you will have the honor of finally getting to meet each other and possibly building new friendships that will last forever.
I know that has been the case for most of us who have been meeting up for the last few years, be it for a weekend or even just a dinner.
Don't let this oppurtunity fall through the cracks. I've been meeting up with some of the BB family for the past 3 years and I have enjoyed every minute of the BB weekends. Except for the long distance drive.
Good for you guys. I hope it all goes through. Keep making/posting plans, and as the time nears you will probably get others to join you. If not, you'll still have fun I'm sure. Maybe Turi will join you.
Wouldn't it be cool if the US group met in July, on the same day you guys meet-up in the UK, and we could make a phone call and say hello to everyone. That would be a "first."
Well, I know Chopper can outdrink a camel, and I'm verging on being a full alcoholic lately. De Niro and Yogi sound like they're in the same ball park, too, so it could get quite messy.
I'm snappy happy with my camera once I get it (the camera!!!) out.

Help me, when and where are you all doing this again? I know it's on the 26th of a month, but I'm too lazy too look it up, so someone of you English pussies, tell me.
On that date, I'm gonna go down to the White Horse Tavern, an English pub in Greenwich Village, known for it's drunken, literary history, and get shit faced in your honor.
Ive been looking at train fares it's about 45 pound return which isnt to bad,but im going to leave it till abit nearer the time to book as you can get some good deals
Uh, well I was supposed to meet Capo last month but a double booking, cancellation, then other circumstances cause our paths not to cross. That was very annoying. We will meet up soon enough though, hopefully in the next year. I'm looking forward to giving him his first male handjob.
I am however going to the Wembley NFL game in October, which Yogi is also going to, I would like to meet up, few drink before the game if possible.

We will defintely meet up mate! Sort it out with PM's a bit closer to the time eh?

You can save the male handjobs for Mick though
I really hope you guys do. Make sure to take lots of pictures to share.
I can only imagne, should when this "meet-up" occurs, what the conversation will be like. Won't be dull will it?
Right. Who's still up for this then? I'm no longer toing and froing 'tween the north and south. Up north till further notice. Yes, let's meet.
Ok, October is a bad month for me (well it's going to be a brilliant month but I'm fully booked) but November I've no plans yet except maybe a few birthday. Let's get the ball rolling; November 7th a good time for everyone? Place: I'll obviously say Manchester because it's my back yard now but I'm happy to travel. The only problem I have with journey's are that I tend to drink, so the longer I travel the more drunk I will be by the time of my arrival.
And if anyone would like to bring gifts I like backrubs, fish finger butties and shiny things.
I'm obviously up for it but my schedule (both work and social) is pretty full for the rest of the year. If somebody makes a date i will see if i can make it.
That's ok, we don't mind laughing at you. Just kidding, but I don't mind seeing what you all have planned. After all, we had pages of our meets. I say why not? (But it's up to you guys. I only wish I could meet all of you.
I think it's a gender thing. At least the American lot had women involved. Four lads can't arrange a piss-up at the local never mind a train journey to get there.

Definitely a gender thing, but not the way you're thinking.
The women here: "OK, I can't make the first weekend.... I have a mammogram scheduled and the doctor is a hunk". "The second weekend is no good; I'll be having my period". "Can't make the third weekend because I have to help my neighbor make party favors for her friend's niece's sweet sixteen". "The fourth weekend is out for me; they're having a sale at Macy's".
The guys here: Each guy has a choice of his own. Whoever farts the loudest wins.
I'm totally up for it, but there's a wee bit of bad news about myself. I've got a tumor on my spinal cord, the actual details of which are undetermined at the moment but on the positive/negative spectrum we're looking at closer to the latter.
So I'm not entirely sure how the next few weeks are going to look. October was a busy month for me, but it could end up being totally different. My basic plan is to see out October as I've planned (avoiding surgery and such) and then see what happens.
I don't want to make this out to sound worse than it is. I am living the same quality of life that I have been living (bar numb hands which started the whole thing). Nothing has actually changed yet and there may be no reason for it to change for a while yet. But right now it's pretty huge news for me and just wanted to manage people's expectations. I want a Novemember meet but it may be unrealisistic. I'm in a bit of a wiat and see.

I'm so sad to hear this Turi. Please hang in there my friend. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Ok guys, i've got a night of freedom but then I'm back in hospital tomorrow morning and will be having surgery Wednesday morning. They don't want to hang around and even with the risks and potential complications they feel they should be removing the tumor ASAP. The risk of leaving it in is far too much; at least with surgery I'm getting an honest shot, in control instead of being a timebomb to paralysis and/or death.
I am very proud that the whole team of neurosurgeons and neurologists I've spoken to are absolutely amazed that I've shown no other signs of ill health other than numb hands considering the size of the tumor in my spinal cord. I've seen the scans and it's actually stretching the spinal cord.
I feel good people. From tomorrow I won't have access to the BB but I'll try and send a message in anyway I can. You'll hear from me soon even if it's through one of my intermediaries.
Turi, please know that your friend in the States is sending you positive thoughts, good vibrations, and whatever else you feel may help, all sorts of good trans-Atlantic stuff. I'd tell you not to stick your hand up the nurses' uniforms, but they don't wear dresses anymore, do they???
I'm thinking of you. I have a feeling everything will turn out just fine, but I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed anyway. Take care Turi!!! Drop a line when you can. God Bless you!
Turi just reported in (on Facebook). He's out of surgery (which was a success). The growth (tumor) has been removed and he's in a lot of pain and will be in a special unit in the hospital for the next few days.
It seems I've been hearing a lot in the news lately about various spinal operations involving fusions and such that are bettering people's quality of life everywhere. I know it's not quite the same as your condition, but it seems like technological advancements in treating numerous spinal deficiences and abnormalities are growing exponentially everyday. I think you're in good hands.
Anyway, here's a little 'Get Well' message from one of your fellow PITTSBURGH STEELER fans who you might've heard before
Haha what a mental week i've had, but it's been fun and pretty exciting. Now it's the boring road to recovery. I got turfed out of the high dependency unit after my 'major operation' after one night because I was too well to be in there.
Although there has been side effects as a result of the operation. Nameley a lot of numbness all over my body, even my legs but I can walk fine, it's very strange. The worst is on my left arm in which it is very very numb. I can use it but I've lost some co-ordination. But I have had surgery on my spinal cord and there is some swelling so all this is to be expected. Hopefully it's short term side affects and I'll be getting physio to help. Just now got to take each day as it comes, bide my time and continue to be positive. I've been using Ali's rope-a-dope strategy as my analogy to recovery.
It even looks like I may be out by Monday things are going so well. But just to assure you all I am taking things very steady.
I really have to thank everyone for their support and well wishes and apologise that I haven't been able to respond to everyone personally. It really has meant a lot to me and contributed to my positivity. Many thanks.
How nice to see you back so soon. I'm glad things went so well. Continue to take it easy and follow the doctor's instructions. I am sincerely happy all went well and to see you back.
Turi, you better get that left hand working SOON.... otherwise you'll go into a pub, hold a drink only in the right hand and tip over because you're not used to holding only one drink.
I wish you a very speedy recovery and thank you for keeping us posted on your progress.
Turi, you're the only one I know that could find major surgery fun and exciting. haha. It's wonderful you're on the road to recovery.
You know I had to consider things that a person of my age really shouldn't have to consider and I was never scared. I felt challenged and I swear it brought the best out of me. There was me, alone in the hospital finding this information out and then being the one to call work and my family and being the one that had to keep my head to keep everyone else's feet on the ground. My mum was literally in shock when I told her, my older brother in tears; I on the other hand felt good.
If I'm to be totally honest it was all too easy emotionally. Right now it's a little tougher because as I've recovered very well, I have certain effects from the operation such as a totally numb left hand, numb legs - but they're fully operational. I can't do much with my left hand as it's lost a fair amount of co ordination as well. I also can't use cutlery with that hand as sometimes when my mouth is open to eat it causes some kind of movement in my neck that affects a nerve in my left arm causing it to move/react quickly - often dropping what's in the hand.
These were the risks of the operation and the reason it was fast tracked was because I would have been paralysed and then died very soon. I managed to avoid that with a high risk operation, the surgeons did amazing, and only time will tell whether the affects I'm experiencing are short or long term.
But seriously the emotional and physical side of what I went through from finding out what it was to finally leaving the hospital was exciting; I was faced with so many questions and thoughts (which I may bore you with another time) and I've learned a lot about myself. One minute you think you've got a trapped nerve in your neck, the next your being told you've got a rediculous sized tumor on your spinal cord causing incredible strain that (a) you shouldn't be in the physical condition you're in and (b) could seriously diminish life quality and/or cause death at any moment.
I thought a few of you may find my Frankenstein scar interesting. I've also started putting a head rockin motion on in public to freak people out. All this with my dodgy left arm and people think I'm mental. Who likes the hair?
How amazing the way this has unfolded. It appears you've not only made the right choice, but you also have such "drive" that even if it takes some time you may very well be your "old" self sooner than you think. On top of all that you have such a remarkable attitude thru all of this. Every now and then I meet or hear of someone that proves attitude/frame of mind can keep you healthy and man you seem to be one of those rare dear people.
My very best to you Turi!!
TIS
Ha ha, just saw the picture. Yes, it does look like a Frankenstein scar...oh and the hair is good too.
I think I should also praise the National Health Service because none of this would have been possible without it. I truly hope Barrack can implement some similar kind of system in the US because I'm unaware of any other better healthcare system in the world. What you currently have over there scares the hell out of me - I probably would have been dead years ago when my lung collapsed.
What's the long term prognosis for getting complete use of the left hand back?
Unfortunately we really don't know. As the spinal cord is a very sensitive area and where they operated it is the gateway to my whole central nervous system there's likely to be swelling from the operation. Perhaps it is short term damage but it's really to early to tell. The operation was a week today and there's still been no change. I just have to be patient and only time will tell.
There's no kind of physio that can really help. I'm to keep my hand moving anyway but that won't improve it's situation as the damage is not in my hand, it's in my spinal cord. I've just yawned and that's caused an electric shock feel down my arm. It's strange but I'll just put up with it and be patient. Time is key.
I know we were all quietly being concerned for your mum has been. Just make sure to give her extra hugs and kisses and let her know you're fine.
Chicks dig scars. That, and babies and dogs. Take your nephew for a walk, and show off your scar. Do you still have the dog you used to give beer?
Haha, yeah mums do worry. She's good now though. After they let me out on Monday I took my mum up on her offer to stay at my old home in Scunthorpe for a few days. It's given her a chance to realise I'm doing well plus she tries to look after me when I let her (I'm not very good at letting people do things for me).
Beth, no old Brucie died years ago. It's taken my parents 4 years before they could get a new dog and he's brilliant. He's having his trials and tribulations as well - he's just had his balls taken off today and is fashioning some lovely stitches and a lamp shade round his neck. The poor wee thing.

Would you swap surgeries with him??
Turi, you are a wonder. You're attitude is such a sheer pleasure to be observe.
Although you have some uncertainty ahead regarding your physical condition, I'm so very happy that things went so well. I was sending positive thoughts across the pond to you, and there are many here among my family and friends that did the same.
I'm glad this has all brought the best out of you, my friend. One of my buddies from high school had to battle testicular cancer our senior year, and although he unfortunately lost something that no man should live without, he gained a new perspective and says cancer is the best thing that ever happened to him. Another Austin boy Lance Armstrong battled the same disease a few years later and came back to win a certain bike race a few times.
You'll do fine. Keep us updated on your condition. I know you're the shy and timid type but don't be afraid to open up a bit, huh.
Just a reminder that I am going to be up in Newcastle on the weekend of the 20th of August. Come one come all. I know Yogi and Capo are going to meet up and we'll have a few bevvies. Please anyone else feel free to join us and it'd be great to meet up.
If you don't I'm going to punch you in the stomach!
