Robbed at gunpoint

Robbed at gunpoint - 07/26/07 09:53 AM

I was just fucking robbed this morning going to work. 3 black men walked up behind me and one put a gun to my face. They got my purse, with everything in it. My house keys, phone, wallet, credit cards. So I guess now I have to get my locks fixed so they don't come in and rape me. Oh, what a freaking beautiful world we live in.

Oh, Beth, I am so sorry to hear that. Having to call and cancel all that stuff, it makes you feel so violated.

But I think of how much worse it could have been - thank God that YOU are OK. That's really what's most important.

Beth, that's horrible!!! I am so sorry! \:\( Thank God you are ok, but I can imagine how scary it was and how violated you feel. Hopefully the police will catch them and put them straight in jail where they belong. Were you able to give a good description?

It is so sad that you can't even walk down the street without having to look over your shoulder. What a sad reality. Keep us posted and stay safe.

Jesus Christ, Beth. I can't even imagine what you must be going through right now. Thank God that you're ok. It's a scary world we live in.

Keep your head up, and know that we're here for you. This was no doubt a very traumatizing event. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Re: Robbed at gunpoint - 07/26/07 01:16 PM

What an ordeal - so sorry to hear about it. Not only to go through the danger of the event but the hassle of replacing and canceling everything you had with you. Nothing like that has ever happened to me, so I guess I am fortunate. You live in the Baltimore area, right? Do you work in the downtown area? (the Inner Harbor is the only area of Baltimore I am familiar with).

Beth

Glad to hear you are ok, but what an ordeal. I hope the cops catch these a-holes. What the hell is this world coming to?

I hope you notified your credit card companies and bank so they don't ruin your credit.

Gun to your face.... I can't even imagine how horrible it could be. Things like this take time to affect you, but may remain in the memory for a long time. I am sorry to hear about it. Glad that you were not harmed.

I am so sorry you had to go through that Beth. Thank God you are ok. We are here for you. I hope the cops catch the scum of the earth that did this to you. You are in my prayers Beth.

Wow, Beth. I can't even imagine. A gun to your head? That's terrible. I'm glad you're okay.

Jesus; probably one of the most frightening ordeals I can imagine, considering the spontaneity of it. I'm glad you're okay, though. Though I imagine you're a little shaken up. If you need comforting from a tough nineteen-year-old northern Brit, PM me. \:\)

Wow Beth, I'm so sorry!

I almost overlooked this thread thinking it was just more depressing local news.

It's been such a rough week for board members here.

Why? You know one? \:D

I'm glad you're okay Beth, it's bad enough being robbed, let alone threatening your life.

Re: Robbed at gunpoint - 07/26/07 04:43 PM

The strangest thing happened. I was at the DMV to get a new ID. My daughter had went to get something to eat, and was stopping home to eat her food. Someone walking their dog found my wallet and put it on my steps with a note. My ID and cards will still in it. Thank heavens I didn't have to go through the hassle of getting a new one. I had already put a block on the cards anyway, so I still stopped by the bank to get a new one.

They won't catch the guys because the one with a gun had a bandana covering his face. You can't say Baltimore criminals are anything but dumb. Not that trying to ID them in a courtroom would work. They know my house and in Baltimore witnesses have a tendacy of dying before the trial date.

Terrible Beth, just thank God you're okay and try to move on.

At least you got your ID back. That's such a hassle.

Re: Robbed at gunpoint - 07/26/07 05:43 PM

Beth, the reason that they dump the wallet is so that it can't be traced back to them. I had my wallet stolen once, and the police did catch the girl (btw, it was stolen at a party given for my friend for getting on the local police force, and the party was crawling with cops. How's that for irony??), but I didn't have to ID her or anything because she took a plea bargain.

She was charged with a felony because, even though she didn't try to use them, she still had my credit cards on her. If she had taken the cash and dumped the wallet, then she would have gotten away with it. How's that for stupid???

Btw, I don't know about your experience, but I found the folks at all the credit card companies to be extremely helpful and very compassionate. Many of them even inquired if I had been injured, and did I need medical assistance.

Please, please, please, get a locksmith to your house ASAP. You never know...

I'm relieved that you got your wallet back, Beth. I echo everyone else's sentiments. And take SB's advice, get a lock smith over there, ASAP!

Re: Robbed at gunpoint - 07/26/07 07:14 PM

Beth. I'm sorry to hear about your awful experience. Take whatever comfort you can from knowing that it could have been a lot worse. And you're absolutely right to get locks changed.
To SB's point about the stupid person who lifted her wallet and held onto the credit card, thereby inviting a felony rap, here are some examplies of crime from my new home town of Prescott, AZ, which is in contention for the title of America's Stupidest Thieves:

--23-year-old and his pals traveled to this area in an old VW bus, complete with peace symbols and other 60's type graffiti. Anxious to party, they parked one night on a residential lot, within sight of the owner's house. They cranked up the stereo, whipped out the bongs, laid out the lines of coke, etc. Owner called cops, who found that the 23-year-old had outstanding warrants in four states.
--19-year-old floor manager at one of the local Wal-Marts helped a customer who wanted to return an item. Customer dropped his credit card on the way out. Floor manager picked it up, and promptly charged a motor scooter for $500--at the same Wal-Mart--then drove it home, then returned to the store. Customer came back, missing his card. Floor manager told him he gave the card to someone else who "looked like you." Customer called cops, who immediately found the sales record for the scooter, the video of the transaction--and the scooter at the kid's home.
--17-year-old was nailed for going 115 in a Datsun on one of the state roads near here--a felony in AZ. His excuse: He didn't know how fast he was going because the speedo only went up to 85.
--28-year-old Sheriff's Deputy was put on 10 days' "home probation" for "impairing the morals of a minor": he propositioned a 15-year-old girl and kissed her. Sheriff claimed state regs prevented him from firing the guy. But further investigation showed that the deputy had four outstanding felony warrants (including sending his son to buy cocaine for him), plus he was a leader of the Aryan Nation in another state.
--22-year-old stole a woman's pocketbook in a shopping center in town. He used one of her credit cards to buy $208 of DVDs at a store in another part of town. Meanwhile, the woman called the card issuer and learned of the sale. She went to the video store to warn the manager. While waiting in line, she courteously made room for a young man who said he wanted to return some items for a refund. You guessed it: he was the thief, looking to get cash for the DVDs he'd charged on the woman's card. The woman and the cashier tried to grab the kid, who bolted--to another store to try for more illicit transactions. Cops nailed him.

Crime doesn't pay!

Re: Robbed at gunpoint - 07/26/07 07:18 PM

So, the only thing missing was the cash???

Re: Robbed at gunpoint - 07/26/07 07:21 PM

My housekeys and my cell phone too. And my work ID. I have to pay $10.00 to get that replaced. The stupid cell phone company will only give me a free sim card, but will only give me credit towards a new phone.

Re: Robbed at gunpoint - 07/26/07 07:31 PM

If you get a crime number from the police, the cell phone company should replace your phone its happenend to me several times.

What a horrible thing to happen. Thank God you're okay. By the time you read this, hopefully, you will have had your locks changed.

It could have been far, far worse. Locks can always be replaced; people can't.

Just glad you got some of your things back, and that you're safe and sound and physically unharmed.

Beth I'm glad you got your wallet and other important docs back. Just be thankful you are ok. Could have been so much worse.

Boy, I can imagine how'll you'll be doing a visual scan of the area you're walking for a long long time. I try to get in the habit of doing it. You never know.

Anyway, stay safe my friend. \:\)

Well, you could have told me this 5 hours ago. \:\) Is that an open invitation.

I actually got little sleep last night. I'm not going in to work again today. It's still kind of shakey. Hopefully a couple days to settle down and I'll be ok to go back to work on Monday.

Glad to hear you're okay Beth. Fuckers...I hope they catch them.

Forget the locks. It may be time to acquire a piece of self-security hardware. A Smith and Wesson perhaps?
