Two things.

Two things. - 05/07/07 12:18 AM

Firstly, have you ever seen anything so weird as this?

Secondly, I'm trying to upload images on Facebook, but whenever I click to go to the screen where Java should run in order for me to upload photos, all of my Mozilla windows just close without warning. And I'm getting extremely frustrated by it.

Any help appreciated.

The Java thing is an Active X tool, whatever that means.

Is your java up to date?

Have you restarted your computer?

That might be the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

Restarted my computer. No progress.

It seems odd that the windows close entirely instead of asking me whether I want to install an update or not.

I feel like crying when my computer has problems.

When I click to open Java from my Control Panel, nothing happens.

...and I just went on the Java website to download it again, pressed on download and the same thing just happened. I get taken back to the desktop. All Mozilla windows close.

Perhaps you should use IE for browsing this site. Although IE has many problems with Java as well, but in my experience it copes with it much better than the others.

I'm a little slow. Can you explain this to me?

And capo, I have 2 words for you : Windows Update.

You go there, it will check your system and tell you what needs to be installed / updated.

In IE, where Java should be I get the equivalent of a red X (it's actually an image icon, that circle, triangle and square thingy).

Windows Update says I don't need any updates.

Did you try getting the latest Java updates from its web site through IE?

Just tried that. The entire window closed. \:\/

Might it have something to do with my recent decision to Restore and un-Restore?

One of the big security advantages of Firefox is that it does not allow Active X protocols to run, which is why you can't do it. However, just in case, go into your Firefox settings (Tools > Options > Content) and check the little boxes next to "Enable Java" and "Enable Javascript." Try this first, see if it helps.

Newer versions of IE (i.e., 7) have Active X disabled by default, if I'm not mistaken. You'll have to use IE if the Firefox solution doesn't cut it. Go to Tools > Internet Options > click on the 'Security' tab > custom level > check the radial buttons to enable Active X controls.

If you need any more help, or this doesn't work, just let me know. ;\)

It's worked in the past, though, on Firefox, on anything.

And how is the window just closing automatically when I click on the download button on Java's website?

On IE, I just clicked Tools > Sun Java Console, and it closed again.

Maybe your system restore did something. You could try a reinstall of Firefox and a repair on IE7 to see if that helps. It could be the cause of your issue. I'm not sure why such a thing would cause it to crash.

I did a System Restore, and it seems to be working. Cache error (the number of attributes in the cache doesn't match those in the version, or something like that), but it's working all the same.

Fanx. \:D

Now, back onto that cow...

Yeah, that's pretty wild.

The fifth or sixth leg (one of the two extra ones, anyway) looks a bit Photoshopped, I think.

But I shan't refuse the story its right to make me terribly excited/nausous, anyway.
