Crow calls for limit on loo paper

 Quote:
Source: BBC News

Singer Sheryl Crow has said a ban on using too much toilet paper should be introduced to help the environment.

Crow has suggested using "only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where two to three could be required".

The 45-year-old, who made the comments on her website, has just toured the US on a biodiesel-powered bus to raise awareness about climate change.

She teamed up with environmental activist Laurie David for the shows.

The pair targeted 11 university campuses to persuade students to help combat the world's environmental problems.

"I have spent the better part of this tour trying to come up with easy ways for us all to become a part of the solution to global warming," Crow wrote.

"Although my ideas are in the earliest stages of development, they are, in my mind, worth investigating.

"I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting."

Laurie David's husband, Seinfeld creator Larry David, also appeared.

Crow has also commented on her website about how she thinks paper napkins "represent the height of wastefulness".

She has designed a clothing line with what she calls a "dining sleeve".

The sleeve is detachable and can be replaced with another "dining sleeve" after the diner has used it to wipe his or her mouth.

The shows involved a short set by the singer, a talk by David and segments of Al Gore's environmental film An Inconvenient Truth.

Considering what a major source of bullsh*t she is, I'm surprised about this.

I guess we can add another puppet to the F.A.G., eh Ronnie?

Probably belongs in the Seinfeld quote game, but...

Jane: I don't have a square to spare. I can't spare a square.
Elaine: How about a ply? I'll take a ply.
Jane: Look, I don't have a square and I don't have a ply.

One sheet? She must poop just one tiny tootsie roll.

How about just using more recycled toilet paper?

I think JJ made this up. A good one though. Can toilet paper really be a concern for environmentalist? It's got to be way down the priority list.

I wonder if there is a business opportunity here?? Recycled toilet paper. We bring our recyclable cans, glass, plastic, newspapers to the curb for pick up. Why not toilet paper? Nah, shitty idea.

Unfortunately, MC, no, even my incomparable witticism could not concoct something this fundamentally asinine. I heard in on BBC News. I thought it was a prank too, but other sites carried the story as well. It's real...

I read this on sfgate.com too, so it must be true! ;\)

There is recycled toilet paper already (made by Seventh Generation and other places). And it is biodegradable! So you can use more than a square and not worry. It is, however, a little rough on the tush.

When is the last time Sheryl Crow had anything resembling a hit song?

Also what are CD's and IPods made from? I am not sure, but I don't think it is biodegradable. Does she not want us buying CD's or IPods?

She's gonna soak up the motherf*cking sun is on the radio all the time here, plus she has that gay Steve McQueen song for the Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Wrangler Jeans commercials every five minutes during NASCAR races.

She is irrelevant, but some people must like listening to (or fucking) her.

Re: "Sh*t less, save the planet." - Sheryl Crow - 04/25/07 06:33 AM

This has to be a joke right? Like a dare maybe? I can see her sitting around with her band and some roadies joking about how to save the planet and someone makes a funny statement like reducing toilet paper waste, thus saving trees. Then someone dares Sheryl Crow to make that announcement with a serious face as part of a dare or bet or something.

She can't be serious, right? If I used a single square, I'd be worried about losing it in the process! I mean it just might completely disappear somewhere in there!

Re: "Sh*t less, save the planet." - Sheryl Crow - 04/26/07 04:12 AM

In her blog she says And by the way guys, the toilet paper thing...it was a JOKE!! . So we are meant not to take is seriously!

Now that I FINALLY read the original comments in context, it's obvious that she was being tongue in cheek. It's amazing how much we allow the media to take things, write them up and reason for us.

(though admittedly it WAS a stupid joke, she should stick to singing).

Re: "Sh*t less, save the planet." - Sheryl Crow - 04/26/07 04:20 AM

Did she add that "it was a joke" statement after everyone in the media made a joke out of her? Or was that already there to begin with?

Or, like Blibble said, once she realized how many people though she was a complete retard, she changed her story to make it "tongue-in-cheek."

Either way, if you didn't know she was a complete idiot beforehand, you know that now. \:p

Well, the outcome *IS* funny -- sort of. Only I don't think she intended it to be funny in that manner. I don't think she is laughing about the media misrepresentation of this "joke" (to be honest, out of context and without tagline about washing out the square I didn't know it was a joke at first either. I thought, "damn, I never knew she was such an doofus" *shrugs*).

But that is just the way the media is now. Context is routinely discarded if it will make a better story or radio talker.

Re: "Sh*t less, save the planet." - Sheryl Crow - 04/26/07 06:46 PM

What was the context?

Whatever the case it was certainly cheeky of her to make us the butt of her "joke." Really did anyone laugh his or her arse off?
Does anyone give a sh*t? If it was a joke it belongs in the crapper.

Well, you can read it here. Most of the blog entry is in a joking manner if you read through it . Stuff like "how bout just washing the one square out.". "Use one square" is just a set up line. "Wash it out" is the punchline. Not the funniest joke ever, but it's structured as a joke in its original context.

And then read on about "I have designed a clothing line that has what's called a "dining sleeve." The sleeve is detachable and can be replaced with another "dining sleeve," after usage. The design will offer the "diner" the convenience of wiping his mouth on his sleeve rather than throwing out yet another barely used paper product." and telling people not to steal her idea (if she really had a great idea, would she share it to everyone?). It is all obviously an attempt to be witty.
