Who here watches soap-operas? (I'm guessing not many)Any Young and the Restless fans? One Life to Live? All my Children?

Ohh how about Dallas, or Dynasty? If anyone watches that sort of stuff, maybe share your favorite story lines, charecters, ect.

Is The Simpsons considered a soap-opera? I could talk to you about that... or maybe My Name is Earl? Wait... never mind...

I think I never missed an episode of both serials. I loved them. Bobby Ewing was my fav, but J.R. was definitely fascinating.

I happen to think that Brad Carlton is awsome. And so fine!

I love the 80's soaps!
They are so fun to watch, and the stories are complex and imaginative.

In Days of Our Lives, I remember there being a story about the father of this womans baby ( her name escapes me)

and who was the father, one of the men she was with was Stepheno(sp). I was like nine I think, but I really enjoyed it!

What about The Bold and the Beautiful?

I use to watch soaps years ago, but not anymore. I did watch the night time soaps when they were on Dallas & Dynasty. However my favorite was "Knot's Landing", which if anyone recalls was a spinoff of Dallas. Every Thursday night at 10:00, I'd have the kids in bed and it was my time. I always looked forward to that show. \:\) But, it's been that long ago since I've watched any soaps.

BTW, to show you much I am NOT a sport enthusiast, I always thought "March Madness" was some kind of a sale, like car sales or something. My Son-In-Law clued me in. Yea, last night all my good shows on channel two were pre-empted!! Damn

Re: Soaps Anyone? - 03/18/07 01:51 AM

Never watched soaps. The problem with them is the same that I had as a kid with comic books.

As a continuous serial creative medium that never has a set-end, and as long as cash rolls in, whatever dramatic or serious storylines that are crafted inevitably become tossed away with a satisfying end.

Besides, look at GENERAL HOSPITAL. She likes him, he likes her, he rapes her, she liked being raped by him, they marry, they divorce, and some other crazy shit in a supposed "memorable" soap opera couple.

Interestingly, I do like the "live" atmosphere provided by the video-style of filming. For a creative class years back, I was told to create my own daily soap opera drama.

My soap oepra? DUALITY

Cheesy title aside, it was simple. Two political family clans feud with each other for control of America. The Kennedy-esque Irish-American family from New England with a lengthy legacy of both success and tragedy. Plus, everything else Ted Kennedy did. They're on the downslide of their power, but they're still a formidable group of influence.

Then on the otherside, a Bush-esque family from Texas, rich from oil, who are on the upswing, but have as much problems as their rival dynasty.

It would have it all. Sex, romance, violence, assassinations, conspiracy, intrigue, fixed elections, adding pointless amendments to the proposed congressional budget, incest, and everything else that the FCC won't go Nazi on.

Oh, Nazis too.

I just hate that. Especially when I have soda and chips!!

Once I sit down to watch shows with food in my hand, you know I mean business.

I cannot stand The OC.That show is the worst program on television!!!
Posted By: Brwne Byte

Re: Soaps Anyone? - 03/19/07 04:58 AM

I never even saw the OC. Never got into it. Reminds me of that skit on Mad TV, called "Pretty White Kids with Problems"!

Sonny and Brenda were definatly a good couple. I'd say good, solid couples in soaps are rare in this decade, There just arn't any "Luke and Laras" anymore.

Who's ever seen Ridge Forrester?

That's cool, on One Life to Live, the guy who played Big Pussy showed up, as a pool champion named "Rack'm Ross'. I think they brought him on just to boost ratings.

I never really watched the Y&R, but can't help know about Luke/Laura, as it was so "BIG". However, is Noah Rick Springfield's character???

Years ago, BC (before children) my wife and I both worked full time jobs. So she used to tape General Hospital every day and then come home at night and watch it. It was the storyline with Robert Scorpio, Duke and the mob. At that time it was really like a mob soap opera and I wound up getting hooked on it.

However once the mob storyline ended, I lost interest.

Re: Soaps Anyone? - 03/21/07 08:31 PM

Yeah, the mob is always fun to watch on the soaps. I think GH is unique, in that it may be one the vary few(if not the only) soaps with a central mob theme, because of Sonny Corinthos.

Yes Noah is playe by Rick. I heard him sing recently on the daytime emmys, boy he's really good!

Sonny and Carly are horsin around trying to get back together right now. Carly can't make up her mind for a million bucks.

I'd pick Sonny of course. He'd always protect me. Plus, Jax just bugs tha hell outta me!

My wife still watches GH. Sometimes I'll be on my laptop sitting with here while she's watching. But it just doesn't interest me like back then. Too many affairs and who's fooling around on who and who's been dying the same death for two years.

Back in the Duke/Anna/Scorpio episodes, there was a lot of mob stuff, espionage and crime. The affairs and extra marital activities were kept to a minimal with more focus on the mob storylines.

Re: Soaps Anyone? - 03/23/07 05:29 PM

Truly though, besides feeding me and changing my diapers, my fondest memories of my mother are of her and her "stories". Guiding Light, the Young and the Restless, All My Children, General Hospital. Did I leave any out? She loved them. Because of her, I too have an affection for them although I haven't viewed one since Luke and Laura were intertwined.

I do agree with you there...Way too many bed hopping storylines!
The show is no-where near what it was back then with R. Scorpio, Anna, Duke, Tiffany, Scean(Spell?)remember him? What a great team they all were then!
But,...been watching for ever-It would not be the same if i stoped tuning in.
The hostage episode a few weeks back was real good did you see that one?
