FAQ: Quick Reply/Quick Quote

FAQ: Quick Reply/Quick Quote - 02/05/07 06:26 PM

I've enabled Quick Reply on the forums. You will now see a reply box on the bottom of each thread. This allows you to reply to the last post without clicking on the Reply button.

If you want to Quick Reply to a post that isn't the last post, you can click the Quick Reply button on the post you are referring to.

In addition, you can click the Quick Quote button on any post, and it will put that person's post in the Quick Reply box. A nice feature is that you can do this more than once, to quote multiple people. 8) But please remember that quoting works best if you can narrow it down to the specific point(s) you're replying to by editing out extraneous text. ;\)

With Quick Quote you won't get the text formatting buttons. You can still use UBBCode if you know it. Otherwise, please continue to use the standard Reply or Quote buttons to get the formatting buttons.

PS - Feel free to test this new feature here or in the Test thread to get the hang of it...

I LOVE the new Quick Reply feature. I was just going to thank you in a seperate thread before I saw this one was already started. Good work and thanks

I planned on doing it, but wanted people to get used to the other way first, so they knew where the text formatting box was.

PS - Oh great... I just realized WHY you would love this feature.

I have to be honest - I'm not loving it. Half the time I write out a post in here, then realize that I need to add a smilie (so people realize that I'm being sarcastic, or just joking) and can't because it's in this box. Then I have to cut, hit Reply and paste in the new box, or I hit reply and then I have to type it all over again, plus it's in the way of the Hop To button. Of course, I'm a big pain in the butt, so you know how that goes.

SB,

Ha ha, I realized the smiley thing a while back. I seem to not be able to post anything with at least one smiley. It's not a bad feature really, but that's why I seldom, if ever use it. Call me whacky!!

People actually use the Hop To menu? Huh.

Smilies aren't that hard to remember, tho... they all have fairly self-explanatory shortcuts.

Code:
:) ;) :p 8) :D :/ :( :o

:uhwhat:

  :orange:
:shhh: :panic: :star:

Quick reply is good for just that -- a quick reply. If it's something more complex, just do it the usual way...

Re: FAQ: Quick Reply/Quick Quick - 02/06/07 05:58 PM

Do NOT ask me to remember code for the damn smilies. I have enough crap to remember in my life.

As for using the other for something more complex, you're absolutely right. My problem is, I am led rather easily. I just go to the box and start typing. Then it's too late!! See, now I want to add the laughing smiley, and I can't. I will just have to say - LOL!!!

Just noticed.

QUICK QUICK? \:p

Anyway, JG, is there any way of allowing Blockquote as a feature?

It's a good way of putting an indent to a whole paragraph.

Under Faq, the 3rd question, does this have one to many "to"'s in it?

Does my browser to have to be set to accept cookies?

And where the heck are the regular smilies, besides the ones under "More Smilies"?

OMG, thanks for the typos - after what, months?? ;\) But really - I hate dat chit and can't believe I hadn't noticed!

Don't think blockquote is an option, sorry...

"Regular smilies"?? In the (non-"quick") post/reply box? ;\)

This is what blockquotes look like.

Seems about the same as the QUOTE tag, without the box...

The smilies listed in the "posting icon" box puts the smiley in the front of the title header, not in the actual post.

Re: FAQ: Quick Reply/Quick Quick - 11/18/12 02:15 PM

I finally found out how to quick quote multiple posts.
But if a thread has multiple pages (let´s say four), how do I quick quote one post at page 1 and another at page 4? The text in the quick replay box disappears when I change page.

HTML won't work here. After you upload the image, right-click on it and copy its address (URL). In this case, that address is: http://i47.tinypic.com/1zh33w5.jpg

To post the picture here, you need to wrap that address in IMG tags like this:

Code:
[img]http://i47.tinypic.com/1zh33w5.jpg[/img]

Then this will be displayed:

P.S. You should test in the TEST THREAD... so try again there wink

I never use the Quick Reply features myself, but I don't think you can do what you're asking with the Quick Quote. You'd have to use the regular Quote feature and paste the earlier pages.

Strange. I suggest clearing your cookies from this site. Go to "My Stuff" and then "Cookies". Hit the "Expire Cookie" button. That USUALLY fixes malfunctioning stuff like this.

I switched off to the Touchpad for now and put away the laptop, I figured it was probably something with the cookies on Firefox. Thanks for the suggestion SC.
