Trouble Logging In?

Trouble Logging In? - 10/21/06 11:45 PM

I'm not sure why some members of the old board were having problems logging in, but try the "forgot password" feature on the log-in page and it'll send you a new password (which you can change later) IF your email address is up-to-date...

This new system does not allow me to look up passwords, but I can resend them to you to the email address on record.

If your email address is outdated, or you do not receive your password, please email webmaster@GangsterBB.Net from your new email account with your log-in name and old email address if you know it...

Some members have reported that they needed to add http://www.gangsterbb.net and/or gangsterbb.net to their list of "safe" sites ("whitelist") in their firewall or other Security software. If this may be the case, please check your Norton, McAfee, Windows Firewall, Zone Alarm, etc settings.

If you've successfully logged in before, but for some reason cannot log in, or post, try clicking on the "My Cookies" link at the bottom, then the "Expire Cookies" button, then log back in...

If you just signed up and didn't get your password sent to you in a timely manner, that's because your email address was invalid or some other trouble with it. Please email me.

That's in My Stuff >> My Profile -- everyone's encouraged to designate passwords that they can remember... and to explore "My Stuff" to see all the options they have now, and to customize how they'd like things...

Okay, good. One solution would be to try expiring your cookies in "My Stuff"
Posted By: carmela

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 10/23/11 01:50 PM

I am not able to log out. I click the "log out" in the upper right of my screen, it says "logging you out....." but then the screen blinks and I'm right back (still) logged on. I don't have the box ticked that keeps me automatically logged in.

I tried going into My Stuff and clearing Cookies, but they don't clear. I emptied the Cache of my computer, but nothing works. This has only been an issue since yesterday.
I'm on an Apple if that means anything as far as what I can do. It's not that big of a deal, but still...

Thanks.

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 10/23/11 02:49 PM

That's weird, carmela -- it works for me. Maybe rebooting the browser or computer would help? Most likely a Cookies issue, if you can delete it directly from your browser (Safari I assume) that may help...

Ok, I deleted the cookies from my browser and that worked. Thanks, Geoff.

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 02/02/12 02:49 PM

This is NOT a BB problem but rather computer issue. I put a disc in my computer (laptop if it matters) and I can't get it out. confused I can't even feel it when I try reaching for it. I could tell when I closed it, the disc was properly in the slot.

Any suggestions? Thought I'd ask.

Thanks

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 02/02/12 03:48 PM

TIS, I assume the disc player is a drawer that comes out to put the disc in, right? There should be a tiny hole in the drawer that you can stick a paper clip in to force it open. Just straighten the paper clip a bit and stick it in there and press on the latch inside. The drawer should open.
Posted By: The Italian Stallionette

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 02/02/12 04:02 PM

Geoff, the tray ejects, but the cd is not in the tray. I see the little hole outside the drawer, but is there one inside tghe drawer?

Btw, I see I posted in the wrong thread. blush

Yes you did, and I will ban you after this. tongue wink

I can't see the cd getting in there past the tray?! confused Are you sure the cd is in there? Does it rattle when you (gently) shake it (try to shake it lose, vertically, with the tray opened -- or even upside down and then vertically). If it's in there, and you're uncomfortable removing the disc player, hopefully you bought it at a store where you can bring it in -- or perhaps take it to a computer repair shop. That is, ONLY if you are SURE the disc is in there or you'll look like this: blush lol

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 02/02/12 07:23 PM

Geoff,

No, nothing broke. lol

First, let me explain, I am POSITIVE the cd is in the computer but I double checked to make sure it wasn't in the dvd player or in it's case. I KNOW I put it in my computer as it is my daily workout routine (as I watch the news.) grin Just as I closed the tray I knew immediately it was not in right. I did open tray and lightly shook it and nothing rattles or shakes.

Ok, so I opened the tray and for the last few hours have been looking inside and see nothing. I tried a paper clip, a Q-tip, a thin piece of plastic and slid into the slot and feel absolutely nothing. SO, I got an old work-out dvd and put it in the computer and it plays, although I didn't let it play thru. SO, my Denise Austin got eaten up by my computer. confused Question is, is it safe to put another disc in and play it? I am totally baffled as to where the hell the video went. confused I am not gonna unscrew or take apart anything that's for sure.

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 02/02/12 08:14 PM

Whew! grin

Well, that's odd, because I can't think of where it would go! If anything, I would think the disc would be over the tray -- or somehow behind it. If it's behind it, then good luck. I wouldn't stick any metallic objects in the open player, but can you get a finger in there to feel the top (roof) of the player when the tray is open?

If another disc plays, I guess the other one isn't in the way. If you're lucky it may shake itself loose and fall onto the other one (which would probably cause quit a racket). To play it safe, though, I'd probably take it somewhere to have someone take a look.... you can bring it here, if you want. grin

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 02/02/12 08:22 PM

Thanks Geoff, I wish I could just run my computer over to you to check out but I'm guessing it'll be cheaper to take it to BestBuy or somewhere to check it out? smile

I agree with you though. I won't use it for now cause I don't wanna totally mess it up, but damn, how the hell can I lose a disc inside the computer. It MUST be tightly sitting somewhere.

Thanks for your help. smile

Is anyone else having this problem? It just started a month ago.

I log into the BB and I post either fresh or as a reply or as a quote (this only happens for my first post upon logging in the first time). I click on submit and nothing happens. I then have to reboot and it is only then that Submit accepts my post.

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 03/03/12 06:58 PM

That's weird. First thing I'd try is for most any BB issue: Try "expiring your cookies" in My Stuff. Clear your browser cache. If you're using MSIE browser, stop. wink

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 03/15/12 06:09 PM

Anyone else have this experience? Last week my modem just about went out. Over several days, for hours it would work and for hours it wouldn't work. The last time it wouldn't work, I decided to finally get a Verizon tech out here who told me my modem was shot. So, I ordered a new one. Then, just for the heck of it, I inserted the Verizon modem CD, went through the reinstallation process during which several screens told me that my modem was shot. I then turned off my PC and was about to power down my power strip when I noticed that the modem's internet light was on. So, I powered up my PC, clicked on IE, and low and behold, it worked. It's worked ever since which is about 48 hours. Verizonis giving me amonth's credit on my bill, but convinced me to still accept the new modem which will be $39.
Posted By: SC

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 03/15/12 07:38 PM

oli -

I've heard of instances in which modems slowly fail, like yours apparently has, and then they'll "come back to life" for awhile. Almost always, they end up failing permanently, though.

I'd advise you to follow the advice of your IP and keep the new modem.

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 03/15/12 10:12 PM

Thanks for the input SC. I think I'll take your advice and keep the new one.

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 03/24/12 12:51 AM

Minor glitch I think. I have always remained logged in on the BB. I just never bother signing in or out. Starting this afternoon for some reason I had to log in. I shut down and went away for a while and again when I came to this site, I had to log in. confused I went to preferences and didn't see anything about remaining logged in.

Again it's not that it's so much work to log in lol, just wondering why suddenly I have to and what I check to remain logged in.

Thanks

I've been having trouble for the past few days recently. When I attempt to log-in, it will time out and I'll receive this message:

UBB Message We encountered a problem. The reason reported was

Unable to connect to database server, please try again in a few minutes.

Please click back to return to the previous page.

However, when I hit the back button and try it again, it signs me in. It does this every single time. It'll time out the first time and then sign me in the 2nd time. Has anyone else been having this problem?

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 08/26/12 06:52 PM

That is all very odd because the server migration wasn't performed on THIS server, but the one hosting all the other sites. I still haven't tracked that issue down.

That said, I have gotten a few errors like that here, and they don't make any sense.

If you haven't yet, for log-in problems, please go to My Stuff > Cookies and "expire" them and log back in. Let me know if it's still an issue.

And please try to copy/paste any error messages you may get here so I can track down the source of any problem -- thanks!

Hello!
I'm new to this board (I've been reading it for a long time and find it very educational and entertaining!) and I wanted to post a question in one of the other forums and I'm having some trouble. I'm hoping that someone here can lend a hand. I log in and on the page with the list of forums it shows I'm logged in. When I select a forum it indicated I am NOT logged in. It also does not display the reply options or the quick reply box. I've tried logging in repeatedly but so far the only forum I can post in is this one. Is there a waiting period for new members before they can participate? Am I missing a step? Thank you for your help!

I just had to log in again just now, so I have no idea WTF is going on... will try to look into it!

Edit: You know what, I just had to log into ESPN, also, so it might be Chrome-related rather than BB-related....

Posted By: J Geoff

Re: Trouble Logging In? - 07/11/14 03:04 AM

I'll try to look into this further, but I'll need some info first. If you're having a problem logging in, staying logged in, or even NOT having a problem at all, please answer these questions:

1) Which browser are you using?
2) Have you tried a different browser, and how did that work?
3) Have you tried "expiring" your Cookies via the BB?
4) How often does this happen?
5) Has it happened on other websites?

As for MY experience, now and then I find myself having to log in, when in the past I was ALWAYS logged in. Chrome is my main browser, but haven't tried another browser long enough to tell if it'd happen there. It seemed to be okay for about a week after "expiring" my Cookies via My Stuff here on the BB, but I'm not sure if it's the BB itself, because the same thing happened to me at ESPN.com

That, of course, makes it difficult to track down the problem, but hopefully if a bunch of people chime in with their details, I might be able to narrow the issue down....

Testing... apparently there's currently an issue with not being able to log in -- I can't either! -- and it's apparently some virus issue on the server. I've contacted Support, so hopefully it'll be back soon. In the meantime, if you're already logged in, don't log out! --JG

Okay, it looks like I was able to log back in now... hopefully the issue is behind us, but let me know if you're still having problem logging in...

TESTING... seems to be another issue with people trying to log in and getting an error message. If this posts, then apparently those already logged in are still able to use the board......

"An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security."

Is this a general error?

Still can't log in the "regular" way - through the homepage.

I'm having to use the "alternate" way of signing in mentioned in the Shout Box - by clicking on a member's name and using the sign-in box on that page. The only thing is that you can't stay signed in with this method and I have to sign in again every time I come back to the GBB.

FYI... I'm still waiting for the web host to fix our log-in issues after the server migration. In the mean time, you can click on someone's profile name and log in that way. Sorry for the inconvenience!
