Harlan Lebo's book, "The Godfather Legacy," gives no indication that they ever met before Coppola was assigned by Paramount to direct the film. Since Puzo finished the book well before that time, the Coppola we read about in the novel is probably a coincidence.

Turnbull, you'll have to answer this.
But since it was wine, was the Niebam-Coppola wine vineyard made before 69?

No. FFC bought Napa Valley vineyard property from the old Inglenook Winery in 1975, and then called it Niebaum Coppola Winery.

Hey TB, thanks for info on Iglenook. I used to drink that stuff. So that's where it went.
Johnny O, I guess you're older than me, unless you read GF when you were a tyke. Ironically, I just bought the GF 30th Anniversary Edition pocketbook at lunchtime. I don't think there is anything special about it, no pictures or anything. But like you I read it 32 years ago and with all the talk on this site about the book, I figured it was time to re-read.
