on the anniversary edition you will hear bregman and de palma discuss how they wanted to film it ALL in miami, but the cuban residents were unhappy of what the message was to the movie. they actually only shot about 2 weeks in miami. -Pat

Cuz they was afraid of have troubles with the real cubans dealers and cuz, the whole cuban problem was actually happening in that time in miami, so they decided to shot in L.A.

Here's a clue to my question....this director helmed such films as PRINCE OF THE CITY and NETWORK, which he got an Oscar nomination for Best Director over.
