Don Rickles Tribute

Don Rickles Tribute - 05/29/14 10:40 AM

I watched it last night on Spike TV and it was both touching and hysterical. Jerry Seinfeld hosted and virtually every living comic worth his salt either appeared or taped a segment. And believe it or not, Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese were like Abbott and Costello when they took the stage. I know that it's being shown again tomorrow night, this time on TV Land. I HIGHLY recommend it to both Rickles fans and comedy fans in general smile .

I missed it but after seeing your post. I went to YouTube it was a roast wasn't it?

Interesting I met DeNiro through Joe Pesce. DeNiro ain't funny I asked him how did you lose all the weight after making Raging Bull? He told me I stopped eating. Like I said he ain't funny.

So it is on today Tuesday.

You know what I found myself watching Yestarday. smile So You Think You Can Dance?

And Rickles isn't funny to me- in fact I hate that fuck and the way he humiliates people

It is an honor to be humiliated by him or at least it was.

Seen this the other night, thought it was pretty good. I think Rickles is funny, especially in those 70's Friars Club Roasts.

This was a good show. I watched it twice. I thought it was strange that they hardly had any film of him interacting with non-show biz people.

I love Don Rickles. I understand people have different tastes when it comes to comedy and Rickles is just one of those comedians you either love or hate. Pat Cooper is another one I love that falls into that category. You either love him or hate him.

I like Pat Cooper's act, and I'm proud of him as a fellow Italian American. But objectively speaking, Pat Cooper couldn't stand in Don Rickles's shadow as a comic. And as a person?

I've honestly met Pat Cooper on three or four separate occasions. Back in the day he was pretty big on the Bronx/Westchester Italian American catering hall and club circuit (places like Alex and Henry's, Tardi's and Maestro's). And he's about the biggest dick you'll ever meet in your life. Obnoxious, belligerent and CHEAP. The waiters and bartenders in those joints used to pee in his drinks because he wanted everything for nothing and he never tipped. True story.

Now I can't speak for Rickles, but his celebrity friends swear that he's a sweetheart. But who knows?

I agree with you 100% PB. Rickles is a far superior comedian than Cooper but something about Cooper's angry rants always gets a laugh out of me. As far how he is off stage, I heard he is a prick. Hell, his own family doesn't have much nice to say about him..and with good reason so I have read. But Cooper entertains me on television, thank god I don't have to sit down to family dinner with the guy. lol

I agree. Like I said, I enjoy his act, and I respect his accomplishments. I just think he's a dick. That's all lol.

I would not be surprised if after one of Rickles shows. Someone went after him after insulting the guys wife. I could see that happening.

I always like Pasquale Caputo's act when he talked about his father. Once he said he got home very late and his father took an alarm clock put it right in his face and said "Do you know what time it is?" smile

Only a scum bag would take a swing at an 88 year old man. Besides, Rickles is an insult comic and i'm sure audiences are well aware of it when they buy their tickets to the show.

Exactly. And even if he was still 48, it's not like you don't know what you're in for when you buy front row seats to one of his shows. You don't like him, stay the fuck home.

I have never been a guy who gets mad about having my balls broke a little. Its actually amusing to me. I would go to a Rickles show just hoping he would call me out so that I would have a funny story to tell later. smile

I thought it was a great tribute to a comedy icon, but not having seen Rickles in years,it was sad to see him having so much trouble walking and standing. And if I'm not mistaken, didn't David Letterman have to say "Dave" into Rickle's ear after he did his routine? It's almost as if Don didn't know who he was.
