Netflix's House of Cards - 02/02/13 04:18 PM

Anybody watched this new series yet? Netflix posted all 12 episodes/first season on their site yesterday. I tried to watch the first episode but my audio/video were not in sync (you know when the audio is much ahead of where the video is) and that was driving me crazy so I stopped watching it. The show looks very promising/interesting so I am anxious to give it a shot.

It's a series thats exclusive to Netflix, one of their new original programming. You have to have a Netflix subscription to watch it. Technically, one can sign up for free month of Netflix then watch all the 12 episodes and then cancel your membership. I have seen numerous talk shows talk about some people might do that if they dont have a Netflix subscription.

They lost a huge portion of their customer base and their stock price plummeted when they changed their pricing structure. They recently started to recover.

Re: Netflix's House of Cards - 02/03/13 05:19 PM

^^^Sicialian Babe is correct, their stock price took a real beating (from over 250 down to less than 50, now its over 150)because of the botched new pricing scheme and increased competition from other streaming services like Amaznon, Redbox, HBO Go, etc.

Yesterday, the GF and I watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards on Netflix. And I must say this show is GREAT!!!!! Extremely addicting, well-done, great acting, funny at times, serious, good cast. All in all a great series,I highlly encourage everybody to watch it. One of the perks of Netflix having the entire first season available online at once is that we dont have to wait a wk or so for new episodes to air like other shows, I know we all hate waiting I know I do.

I thought the show was pretty good. About the life of one particular congressman spacey who was smart and an expert on how to manipulate the system the way he wanted it. He would even turn to you the viewer and act like you was his confidant,

I particularly like his wife but you know he will never screw her on the show to bad I would have done it any chance I got.

He reminds me of Larry hagman JR in Dallas character a caniver.
-------

What I don't like was that the guy had no real balls. He would never do anything that was obviously illegal to make money or to get power. He had no real guts. I hate people like that.

But the show was fun to watch. Again I hope that his wife has an excuse to take off her cloths and screw him or a subordinate before the season ends.

Re: Netflix's House of Cards - 02/04/13 07:57 PM

This show is based on a terrific British "House of Cards" starring Ian Richardson. That had three four-hour series that were made years apart, and the 13 hours of the American version really only get you part of the way through the first British series. It drags. The British series combined humor and cynicism, Americans generally seem to be unable to combine humor and poltics, so the script doesn't try to be funny much. Especially early on, actors seem to square up tentatively, like they're consciously hitting a mark for the camera. Kevin Spacey seems (literally) to be trying to imitate Tommy Lee Jones. The other actors are weirdly interchangeable -- there's two peanut-headed bald guys and the women are all rail thin. The story staggers along on drugs and sex, but the sex is more of the tease variety.

There's been some speculation that all 13 episodes were released at once because viewing wouldn't be sustained if they released it an episode at a time. Do yourself a favor -- if you have access to Netflix, watch the UK version instead.

The American version is good in its own right, I have already read about a few critics saying this show should be considered for an Emmy or two.

Netflix did the same thing with Lillyhammer and also released all the episodes at once. The ratings for that show were crazy, and they are going to release season two this fall I read.

Season two coming this fall (see my previous post above), the show broke records in some EU countries for viewership.

So what will the fixer fix next season? will he learn to speak Norweign so he can communicate with the older Norwegians and deal with the less educated street kids? Will he sell dope not just weed real drugs like heroin. A little hijacking seem like a good idea. I think whores might be legal there so he would invest in legal businesses as well.

I know he should buy his towns soccer team. Invest in players and then fix the games.
