Les Miserables

Saw regular movies of it. Saw it on broadway twice. Saw the movie of the musical on Sunday . It was surprisingly good, but the extras sang better then the stars. But the stars acted better then the extras. How many movies have you seen lately where the movie audience applauds at the end. It is worth seeing but it's long about 2 and a half hours with no intermission. Hugh Jackman and russel Crowe stars

The bishop in this movie is the actor singer who starred as the star valjean of les mis on broadway in the beginning Colm Wilkenson

There is another musical that was on broadway for a short run that no doubt will return to broadway some day tale of two cities. It has a great musical score that you can buy on amazon star was James Barbour he has a fantastic voice.

Looking forward to the movie. I've seen Les Miz 3 times on Broadway and once in London. It's my all time fav. Love the 10th and 25th Anniversary specials. There was a non-musical version done a dozen or so years ago, Liam Neeson played Jean Valjean and Claire Danes was Cossette. I remember it being true to the play and quite good.

One of my favorites is west side story saw it twice on broadway. Saw it when they made the movie the play ground was my play ground I even saw it in Germany on my last visit. That show cracked me up.

Jersey boys I dug first everyone there was old like me. When I was a kid I did not like the four seasons. I thought franke valle sang like a girl. I was very surprised when I found out joe Pesce brought the song writter to the group. I knew Pesce for years and he never mentioned that fact to me.

The thought of Russell Crowe singing puts me off..

He's an actor first, of course. But singing isn't new to him. He had his own band years back. And he does well in this movie.

Jon Favreau was supposed to direct that movie adaptation but it went into turnaround so we'll wait for awhile. Then again, a good many Broadway hits took ages to make the big screen. EVITA, HAIR, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and this especially.

I kinda want to see this, but I'll walk (don't run). I like to try to see all the Oscar contenders and size up the field and see who deserves the nominations and which ones the Academy really fucked the dog on.



And the thought of Wolverine and Catwoman also singing didn't?

Give it a chance. God knows we don't get that many musicals in general produced, even fewer make money like LM is doing currently. There was a time when the only musicals that Hollywood were producing was Disney animated movies, and the Mouse House have gotten away from that.

Because of the success Les Miserables there is a musical going to broadway that will also be made into a motion picture on or around 2015. That show is Jekyll and Hyde.

Overall I loved it. I'm a crazy Les Mis fan, read the book first when I was way too young for it and re-read countless times. Saw a lot of movies and love the musical.

Anne Hathaway was fantastic - she needs to get an Oscar.

Singing-wise, Aaron Tveit and Samantha Barks are spot-on, but they are both stage veterans. And having Colm as the Bishop was such a heartwarming things. The Tenth Anniversary Concert was my introduction to the musical.

I was pleasantly surprised by Russell Crowe. He has a good voice, obviously not too powerful, but he did well. Of course he's not Philip Quast, but Philip Quast is to Javert what Maria Callas was to Tosca. Born for it.

Jackman is mostly good, the only part that was painful was Bring Him Home. After hearing it from Colm, John Owen Jones or René van Kooten my standards are pretty high for that solo.

Gavroche on the other hands was one of the best I've heard so far.

Eddie Redmayne is a cutie and he's talented. Seyfried could sing but nothing else (but stage!Cosette is hopelessly boring anyway).

The Thénardiers: I didn't see the need for big-name stars. We would've been better off with stage veterans. No one does a bettter Madame T than Jenny Galloway. And cutting "Dog Eats Dog" was a major mistake.

The movie added a lot of little book things that are not in the musical, and changed some things back to book canon (like Gavroche bringing Marius' letter, Enjolras and Grantaire dying together by firing squad, Marius having a granddad, etc.)


In general it was very emotional, I cried a lot more than I usually do in the stage version.
