Homeland - 11/28/12 01:54 AM

Anyone been watching this new season of Homeland?

It's more A-Team than Homeland Security. That Carrie just does whatever she damn pleases and bangs the main suspect all the time. "Just trying to keep the customer satisfied" is how she spins it and the odd grimace aside everyone's cool with that at the Homeland depot.

You want to switch off the tracking device? "I don't think that's a good idea Carrie!" She replies "Just do it"!!!! And all protocol is forgotten and the whole team are drifting close to the breeze because the attack is supposed to be imminent yet all the main suspects for initiating the attack are roaming loose and working for Vice Presidents and major TV networks. WTF!!!

Sometimes watching I wonder who's crazier, Carrie or the crackpots who let her do what she likes and kind of just roll with the fact that she's a law unto herself. Watching this makes me wonder how they ever snagged Bin Laden.

Seeing Brodie sail off in a helicopter with Homeland Security's brightest and finest in the near proximity brought back memories of that Simpsons episode where Moe sweeps in on a flying jet pack and sails through the roof to save Homer from a beating in the boxing ring at the hands of Tatem. I can hear the commentator now "Whatever dignity remained in boxing is literally flying out the window".

That's exactly how I felt about 'Homeland' last week when Brodie sailed off into the moonlight in a helicopter.

I just received an e-mail from Time Warner (my cable provider) saying we will get free Showtime Jan. 11-13 and that we would be able to see Homeland. I may check it out IF I can see it from the beginning.

afs - I want to make sure I understood the last scene correctly... Saul was not speaking Arabic, he was indeed speaking a prayer in Hebrew - correct? Mrs. Mark thought he was speaking Arabic and may have been behind the bombing but I think it was the surviving terrorist cell that set off the bomb. What do you think?

Re: Homeland - 12/19/12 01:46 AM

According to the web, he was saying the Kaddish, the prayer for the dead. I haven't watched all of the episodes so I don't like to comment, but I am a big Mandy Patinkin fan, so I hope to catch up on Netflix.

SB is right Mark, that definitely was not Arabic. I know a bit of Arabic and it didn't sound anything like it. The Saul Character is Jewish, so it makes sense that he would be praying for the dead in Hebrew, however it was shown that he did speak with a terrorist in season 1 in Arabic. He had previously served in Lebanon, and could speak Arabic as well.
Click to reveal..
If you remember, Saul shook that guy's hand, and later that guy committed suicide with a razor blade. They suspected a mole was in CIA, but the issue was never addressed and some speculated that it was Saul. It's nothing like him though, so out of character.
He is my favorite too.

The prayers on Abu-Nazir was in Arabic though, that guy read a verse from Quran addressed to the soul upon death perfectly, meaning "O soul at peace, return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing, enter amongst my servants, enter to my paradise."

Re: Homeland - 10/29/13 02:42 PM

Has anyone been watching the new season? Even though the last episode was a slight improvment imo, i've got to say this has been a big disappointment so far. I couldn't care less about Dana's crappy drama with her boyfriend, or anything to do with Brodys family at all. I'm starting to wonder how much Brody will feature in this season, so far he's only been in 1 ep out of 5. The CIA/Iranian storyline seems as if it has potential but it's moving painfully slow atm.

I'm watching it. I agree, it's been such a let down. They lost a writer, so maybe that explains it. Plus, I'm not sure if I could do a better job myself, after how the 2nd season ended. They have to build up a whole new operation and it's gonna be boring and slow.

I get that after last seasons finale, i didn't have a clue how they were gonna make this season work i guess they're doing a good job considering. Here's hoping the next episode is a Brody one and this Dana bs is over. The end of the last ep was good and it seems we might be getting deeper into the operation.

Re: Homeland - 11/10/13 06:14 PM

Yesterday i watched the latest episode, best of the season so far imo. Finally this Dana nonsense is over, i hope she doesn't come back and Brodys family doesn't develop another crappy storyline. Everything else was great, i really didn't expect the Iranian guy to kill those people. I'm really looking forward to the next ep. Even though it's really picked up, i'm still disappointed at where we are half way through the season.

Re: Homeland - 11/12/13 09:36 AM

Let's face it, there's no prospect of this show ever reaching the height of the last season. Next episodes would be all about who moved the bomb in order to clear the name of Brody. So who cares if it's cleared or not anymore. And then what?

I like the season and agree to get rid of Brody's family storyline I am glad the kid moved and is done with.....some good stuff with iran and the new head of the CIA, not sure of quinn's losing it because of the murder, I like his character, I am guessing he may end of dead at end of this season

It has not been that bad, I think the great seasons just get our expectations up too high. Some new writing talent being bought in would be good idea. Fresh ideas can bring the show back to previous level.

In my opinion this may be the best episode of the season next to the one where we learned that Sol and Carrie set up the whole psyche ward thing.

This one had some excellent dialogue.

I completely agree with you here, even though this season has got better it does seem as if they're nearing a dead end with the plot.

Hopefully he doesn't die because i really like his character. You may be right though because his heads got to be fucked up after killing that kid then seeing what the Iranian guy did to his ex-wife.

Something i noticed was that last year Rupert Friend was nominated for a guest actor Emmy for playing Quinn. Just wondering does anyone know if he was officially credited as a guest actor or that was just assumed because he played a small part in series 2? I guess it doesn't matter because apparently Martin Sheen was supposed to be a guest actor on the west wing, then he eventually became one of the main characters. I hope he is kept though.

You're spot on with the great seasons making us expect more. My main problem with this series so far is the lack of Brody episodes. I understand why there has only been one though, they can't really go anywhere with Brodies story right now all they can do is make him escape from Venezuela somehow, and as Asfaneh said. Then what?

It was a fantastic finale! And I tend to agree with you in that if they had decided to end the overall series with this episode, it would have been a graceful finish.

However something tells me that they have something up there sleeve for a new plot or that we are in store for some kind of a surprise.

I just finished watching the first 2 seasons of AHS. Very enjoyable.

As for Homeland, the writing and twists are both phenomenal! Don't know if you were a fan of "24" or not, but I put Homeland right up there with it.

I don't have Showtime BUT for whatever reason Time Warner is giving me 3 free months of showtime for Christmas, including "on Demand." I'm happy to say that I've watched first two seasons (I'm on the Season 2 Finale) and am enjoying it. smile

I must say that, with the exception of Saul, I don't really find most of the characters likeable (including Carrie) BUT not necessary to enjoy the show.

Btw, I can watch thru season 3. How many seasons have there been? confused

Season 3 has just finished and a 4th one has been comfirmed most likely to start next Autumn. Not to ruin anything TIS but i'd imagine after season 3 Saul will not be that likable for you anymore. For me Quinn is the only likable one left, but while it's a perfectly valid observation i personally don't see why this is essential to enjoy the show. Btw TIS, i'm not referring to you here someone on another site brought up a similar point, on the likabilty of characters being essential to the shows quality.

As i've seen most here love the Sopranos but i can't see any character that's likable there for instance. Maybe in the first few episodes or maybe the first season, Tonys family are likable, when you see the full show you notice that they aren't (at least me) .

Again TIS none of this was directed at you i just thought you brought up a relevant point.

Camarel,

No offense taken.

As I said in my post above, "it is not necessary (to like characters) to enjoy the show." I agree with you but usually a film/show has a couple likeable people.

ie: I agree. Lot of despicable characters in the Sopranos too and the show was still great.

Oh, and back to Homeland, Brody's daughter is one of the most unlikeable IMHO. rolleyes

Can i ask what episode you are on TIS? I'm just wondering when people start disliking Brodys daughter or getting annoyed with her involvment in the series at all.

I'm season 3, episode 1 but I've pretty much found Brody's daughter annoying from the beginning.

Also, Brody sure is confusing to me. I never feel I can totally trust him. confused

That's pretty much it TIS you aren't meant to trust him, if you've watched the first 2 seasons you know he lied about his initial claims. I wont post any spoilers here so i don't ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Couldn't agree more! The actress (forgot her name) performs the deluded but useful part perfectly, Carrie has problems with perception, because of this i have yet to rule out that it will be revealed at the end that Carrie imagined everything that happened in Homeland.

Re: Homeland - 12/29/13 12:23 AM

Ok, I'm all caught up. smile Watched all 3 seasons. I really enjoyed it. Sort of like a roller coaster, not knowing what is gonna happen. Carrie is kind of a complicated "out there" character, who's good at her job but does take a lot of chances.

Wasn't at all sure where the Brody story might end and kept thinking something would happen last minute.

I can't stand the Dick Cheney guy, who took Saul's place. Man, he's just out for power & blood. I keep hoping he'll get his embarrassing moment/s. rolleyes

Now, I'll have to see season 4 on-line since I don't have showtime. Maybe you guys can keep me posted as to where I can watch.

SB,

I agree. I only watched because they had ALL seasons in order. It would be too confusing to watch random episodes or just 1 season alone. I see there is a Breaking Bad marathon on as well but I have know idea what season they are showing. If I watch I want to see it from the beginning.

Anyway, Homeland is good. If you get a chance see if you can see it. smile
