Any Miami Vice fans?

I started watching Season 1 of the show a few years ago, and it's not bad. It's dated in many respects, but having Miami as a backdrop is never a bad thing. Filming the show in Miami is also a big plus in my opinion.

I loved that show back in the day. For me, that show epitomized the 1980s.

Great show, a staple of my mis-spent youth

I remember they had some popular guests (for that time period): Ted Nugent, Lee Iococca, Glenn Frey, Phil Collins & Bruce Willis (before he was known in "Moonlighting" and "Die Hard").

Miami Vice was so stylish (flashy) at the time and showed FL to be a beautiful state. The music was fitting as well. To this day I always think of MV when I hear Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" & if not mistaken "Smuggler's Blues" (Glenn Frye). Don Johnson was pretty hot too. YET, all that being said, I never really got into the show that much. Go figure.

No way. It's 70s disco and 80s fashions all the way. With the return of Dallas, I'm born again.

Maybe this was way before, but did MV start the trend of wearing no socks with shoes?

We were big fans of the original. I loved the opening with the jiggly boobs and the tight asses. The stories were OK.

Loved it back in the '80s. When I watch it today, I can't believe how bad an actor Philip Michael Thomas was. Was there ever an episode where he didn't yell "freeze, sucker!"?

I remember Dennis Farina as a great bad guy. Bruce Willis played a real creep, too. His character was abusive to women, the whole nine yards. It's the only really, really bad guy I think Willis ever played.

How about his terrible Jamaican accent?? Did you know that Jimmy Smits was in that show, for about the first 90 seconds. He played Sonny's original partner who was murdered, thus making way for the new guy. And who could forget Big Booty Trudy??

Yeah, he got blown up. Sonny escaped death because he was bending over lighting a cigarette. And boy, didn't Sonny smoke alot on that show?

Jimmy Smits ended up having the last laugh because his career was more successful beyond what Philip Michael Thomas ever did.

I just watched the episode with Phil Collins in it, and he was actually pretty good in it as a con-artist.

Not only did he smoke, but they were unfiltered, and the girls used to talk about him twirling that cigarette on his tongue before lighting it.

Don't forget Michael "Kramer" Richards' epic turn as a bad guy. Bill Russell and Harvey Fierstein were also both in that episode.

Sandra Santiago was one of the most gorgeous women I'd ever seen on TV at that point. When she showed up as Jeannie Cusumano on The Sopranos, I thought, "Damn. Twenty years later and she's still as smokingly hot as she was back then."

Good show - we used to get tapes of us sent overseas and watch it when I was in the Navy. Detective Gina Calabrese was Jeanie Cusimano in Sopranos.

Tony Sirico showed up as a guest star at one point as did Steve Buscemi. I'm sure other Sopranos cast members made appearances as Miami Vice featured a litany of well-known guest stars.

It was a fantastic show especially for it's time! There were many actors / actresses on that show who made appearances and later went on to be familiar and popular Hollywood faces. Several that come to mind are Dennis Farina, Rosanna DeSoto, Sheena Easton, Liam Neeson, Stanley Tucci, John Leguizamo, Ving Rhames and Esai Morales.

I don't remember the actor's name, but there was another Hispanic actor who was in the first season at the boss for Crockett & Tubbs. He had fairly regular recurring roles in the 70s on "Barney Miller" and "Sanford & Son."



Philip Michael Thomas was a horrific actor. And the actress who later appeared on Jeannie Cusamano is still very attractive, nearly 20 years later.

His name is Gregory Sierra, Goom. He quit after the third or fourth episode, and made Edward James Olmos a star. Sierra says it was the biggest mistake of his professional life.

I was never into MV as much as many of you. I can't recall Phillip Michael Thomas being a bad actor. He was that bad?? Maybe that's why I don't think I've seen him in anything else.

Yeah, the two characters (Rodriguez & Castillo) were very different though. It was said that Rodriguez was the image of a higher-ranked cop you'd see in the 70's. Castillo was said to have broke that mould because of the personality that was brought by Olmos.

Olmos had a good role as a federal judge in an episode of "The West Wing."

I think his quiet demeanor as Castillo was a precursor for the Adam Schiff character played on "Law & Order." Both exuded a quiet yet powerful aura.

West Wing? Was that a TV show? "Celestial Navigation" happens to be my favorite episode of WW. That was the episode where Olmos's character got arrested while antiquing in CT.

I remember Olmos winning an Emmy for his role as Castillo, and when he went up to the podium, started his speech by saying, "See? He CAN smile!"

I love the replies that Castillo would give Sonny after one of Crockett's excited and boisterous rants. Castillo would just calmly look up with those serene brown eyes and respond with a "It's not your call" or "You're out of line". Great stuff.

One of my favorite episodes is the one with Pam Grier and John Turturro. Grier was already a veteran of the '70s blaxpoitation fims at the time, but Turturro was a baby. Great stuff (and I always found Grier beautiful).
