Golden Globes 2012
Thought I'd start a thread for the Golden Globes in case anyone else will watch. It's on tonight. I haven't seen any of the pictures nominated but watch a couple of the tv shows.
Anyway, here are the nominees

i thought 'my week with marilyn' was a drama?
and, idk who i should root for, boardwalk empire or game of thrones.
I thought the Marylin movie was a drama too.
I only saw the pilot of American Horror Story and keep waiting for the rest to show on tv or "On Demand." It really captured my interest enough to think it could win best drama.

I see Ricky Gervais is hosting the show again, i'm sure he'll be as controversial as ever..
Although he gave some laughs I am not really crazy about his humor and did think he went a bit far last time. He seems downright mean.

I don't think I'll watch much. I'm only interested in:
TV Drama: Boardwalk Empire vs Game of Thrones (happy w/ either, but no Breaking Bad?!!!!)
TV Drama Actor: Buscemi (Empire) vs Cranston (Breaking Bad) vs Irons (The Borgias)
TV Comedy/Musical: Glee (haven't watched any others)
TV Movie/Mini: Cinema Verite (Gandolfini, tho he's not nominated)

his humor is really weird, but i like it as well...and, he only takes shots at those who seem to deserve it because of pass or present problems
I had only heard of him and only saw him at any length on the last award show. I realize I'm likely outnumbered in my opinion but that's how I see it.

He got a great deal of flack because of his comments last year. However, if they wanted something different, then picking him was pretty stupid.
I'll probably watch (hopefully, the Giants game will be over and I can wrestle the remote away from my husband by then), if only to see who's drunk....

we wont see it, but geoff will more than likely be drunk lol
One thing I like about the Golden Globes is it's on early here (5:00 p.m.) and done by 8:00 thus I won't miss Desperate Housewives (which I'd probably watch instead of GG anyway).
I like to to see who's wearing what, and who's with whom, so I'll probably watch the Red Carpet at 4:00 (7 EST)

Re: Golden Globes 2012 - 01/15/12 11:26 PM
TIS, why don't you get a DVR? Then you can record one thing and watch another?
Well there aren't usually too many conflicts in shows and most of the shows(if I miss them) are on HBO On-Demand where I can see them if I miss them. But yea, I know everyone has DVRs. Some day.
TIS
I see Evan Rachel Wood, who is up for supporting actress in Mildred Pierce, is on the Red Carpet. I DID enjoy that movie.

Ricky Gervais had a good intro -- kinda short. TIS, watch the original (UK) The Office and you'll probably like him. It's better than the US version by far!
...but geoff will more than likely be drunk lol
...or maybe BAM the comedian should host next year!
George Clooney is so hot!

I have it DVR'd, so I'm not watching live. I just saw the Best Screenplay Award go to Woody Allen, who couldn't be bothered showing up. I don't know how far behind I am.
Wow, Sidney Poitier doesn't seem to age much. A little grayer, but he looks great.

I can tell you whose gown I DID not like - Jessica Lange! She was so gorgeous, and she has NOT aged well. I know she's in her 60s, but then don't wear that gown with your saggy back hanging out.
Sorry to be so judgmental. I'm a pig, I know.
I did love how Kate Winslet and Madonna looked. And Jessica Alba-WOW! And Zooey Deschanel looked as adorably crazy as always.

Don't be sorry. My daughters and I always would watch and pick our favorites and worse. That's the fun of sitting on the couch judging all the beautiful women's attire.
Jessica Lange looked a bit scraggly I agree.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is getting trashed for her dress. It does look like it's tie-dyed.

What is it about George Clooney? He's handsome, but there are more handsome men. Why is he just so damn attractive? My husband says it's because he's so easy-going and relaxed.
Edit: Damn! I'm live now!

I think he's very handsome and kind of suave/debonair, if you know what I mean.
There's a smoothness about him and his personality makes him seem likable. Even as he ages, he looks great. I mean, come on!! When you're hot you're hot!

I'm watching the 11:00 news now to see Ricky's reviews, plus they're going to talk about the clothes!
Another gown I hated - Jessica Biel's. She's so beautiful, and she looked like she was wearing her grandmother's gown.
Give Dustin Hoffman a break,,,he just did THREE YEARS!!!!!

He's the rare breed who apparently get better looking as they age.
Want my theory to pile-on yours and TIS's? I say it's the salt & pepper hair. He might've looked good in his youth prime, but once his hair started going gray....BAM! sex magnet.

Well I know most women don't like gray hair, at least on on them. Guess it's a vanity thing. But, let's face it, women are thought of as old when they gray but men have always been thought of as distinguished. Not fair, but that's the way it is.
That being said, not all men with gray hair are hot like Clooney. Hell, he was hot way back in his Facts of Life days (ever see old clips?). I don't remember his father's first name, but even now, he still looks good (not as good as George.) It's likely a combination of personality, style, how he carries himself and genes. Some men just "have it."

FROM THE DESK OF KIM NOVAK
I WANT TO REPORT A RAPE.
I FEEL AS IF MY BODY—OR, AT LEAST MY BODY OF WORK—HAS BEEN VIOLATED BY THE MOVIE, “THE ARTIST.”
The film could and should have been able to stand on its own without depending upon Bernard Herrmann’s score from Alfred Hitchcock’s VERTIGO to provide it more drama. Much of VERTIGO‘s music was written during, not after, filming—that was the way Hitchcock worked. The Love Theme was woven musically in with the puzzle pieces of the storyline. In my opinion, the combined efforts of the composer, director, Jimmy Stewart, and myself were all violated. I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SPEAK NOW. They didn’t need to use what I consider to be one of the most important love scenes in motion picture history by playing the VERTIGO score and using emotions it engenders as if it were their own. Even though they gave a small credit to Bernard Herrmann at the end, I believe this to be cheating, at the very least. Shame on them!
IT IS MORALLY WRONG FOR THE ARTISTRY OF OUR INDUSTRY TO USE AND ABUSE FAMOUS PIECES OF WORK TO GAIN ATTENTION AND APPLAUSE FOR OTHER THAN WHAT THEY WERE INTENDED. IT IS ESSENTIAL TO SAFEGUARD OUR SPECIAL BODIES OF WORK FOR POSTERITY, WITH THEIR ORIGINAL AND INDIVIDUAL IDENTITIES INTACT AND PROTECTED.
