What's You're Favorite Hitchcock Film - 12/30/11 10:59 PM

I admit I don't know and maybe only heard of a few of them from the 20's & 30's. Yet I have seen more of his films than I realized.

I liked Strangers On A Train, Lifeboat, Suspicion, North By Northwest. I really liked Dial M For Murder and remaining my very favorite Psycho, The Birds and others. Oh, and Rear Window.. Didn't realize there was such a huge list of films of his that spanned so many decades. eek

He was an odd character but likeable. I remember watching his tv show every Sunday night with the very familiar theme.

Do you have a favorite Hitchcock film?

I really liked The Birds.

Did you know that he was in each of his films?

I liked "The Birds" too. I knew he was in at least "almost" all his movies. I thought there may have been one or two he wasn't in. If I am not mistaken (and correct me if I'm wrong), in the movie "Lifeboat" you see his picture on a newspaper floating in the water??? lol

TIS, you might find this interesting. It's a list of all of his cameos.

Thanks SB. It's a good detailed list. I saw Psycho not very long ago and missed seeing him for some reason.

I've always have been a little skiddish with birds for some reason. I'll walk around pigeons downtown and simply don't like birds fluttering their wings too close to me. When I was in High School my best friend had a parakeet and one time it was loose when I went to her house. I ended up running out of the house til she put it in a cage. lol

Years ago my brother was visiting me here in CA and we went to Universal Studios. We were sitting bleacher type chairs watching a program included in the tour (can't really remember exactly what show). It was a big area and the stage was a distance. Anyway, at the very end of the show they release tons of birds. panic All flying overhead. I started screaming and squirming as my dumb brother was cracking up.

panic Everyone would ask me if it was because of the movie but it really wasn't. Yet, the movie does give me the chills.

While all of his films are classic, my favorites are LIFEBOAT and PSYCHO.

I think it's the fluttering, TIS. I'm the same way. I wasn't too thrilled when my youngest wanted a bird, but I finally gave in. We had the bird for several years, until finally my husband's doctor said it was unhealthy to have in the house. I wanted to kiss that doctor! LOL

These play now on the Encore Suspense channel. They're still unbelievably good.

I like North by Northwest - tension from start to finish.

I liked North By Northwest too but it's one that I haven't seen in years. Also, "The Man Who Knew Too Much" is one I saw way way back. I remember going to the movies to see his last film (I think) confused "Family Plot" with Bruce Dern. I don't think I've seen it since and I don't think they show it on tv much.

HBO has aired a few times a remake of "Psycho" with Anne Hetcsh and Vince Vaughn. They follow the original practically to a tee, right down to the music. Nothing tops the original of course, and there is only one Norman Bates, but this actually was not a half bad remake.

I'm going to go with two less popular choices:

"Rebecca" and "Vertigo."

One of his that I really enjoyed when I first watched it was "The Lady Vanishes" - which I'd like to see again someday when I get the chance. The two leads are very charming, and I loved the chemistry between them.

The whole film seems to be on YouTube if anyone's interested:

Five of Hitchcock's films are in my Top 10; they are Rear Window, Vertigo, North By Northwest, Psycho and Rope. Additionally, I rate The Birds, Blackmail and Foreign Correspondent in my Top 70.

I've seen 45 of his films.

The Birds was the first Hitchcock movie I ever saw. I was about 8 when I watched Psycho soon after and I thought my eyeballs were going to pop out of my skull.

I guiltily admit that on some of the past Mondays I spent some daddy/daughter time watching some episodes of a teen thriller series called Little Pretty Liars, and the last episode contained a not so subtle homage to Psycho.

Speaking of my daughter, when she was about 6 or so, I watched Rear Window with her. She was on the edge of her seat, wide-eyed and captivated during the thrilling last scenes. As soon as the movie ended, I asked if she liked it and she excitedly said she did. I asked what was her favorite part, and without hesitation and with her eyes still like saucers she answered, "When they lowered the puppy in the basket."

Psycho scared me when I was a kid, I recently saw one I never knew of, called Family Plot. I think it was his last film, I loved it. Two old time actors, Bruce Dern and Karen Black were terrific in it.
