Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/19/11 07:25 PM

In case anyone's interested, tonight's the season 9 premiere of "Two and a Half Men." So use this thread to either praise Ashton Kutcher, or rip him apart. Because I know Jon Cryer will be on his game.

Seriously they should cancel this show, its way past its prime, even at its best it was really low brow stuff, I never understood the hype around it, now it will be even worse with Kutcher.

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/19/11 07:44 PM

First of all let me say I am a late viewer of Two & Half Men. I have only seen the last two seasons and I think it's hilarious. Kind of risque' at times but funny. I think the whole cast is great. So perhaps that's partially why I am willing to see where this goes.

Another thing is I don't really hate Ashton Kutcher (like many seem to). I think perhaps other than seeing only a couple episodes of the 70 Show, I've maybe seen him in one or two comedy movies. I think he is in his element in comedy but the fact that the main character is totally changing could be challenging to the show. Then again, maybe it'll refresh the show. confused

All that being said, and a sidenote, both my daughters want to watch the show because they say Kutcher is hot. lol I'm thinking perhaps he might be a draw for female audiences anyway.

Charlie dies?!?!

But he was on TV just last night! And he looked sober too.

(Well sober for his standards.)

BTW, Comedy Central is having the Sheen Roast at 10:00. It'll be repeated at 11:30.

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/20/11 02:25 PM

SPOILERS BELOW

The show was okay. It opened with Charlie's funeral and, as expected, no one really cared that the guy died. His ex-girlfriends all seemed to show up only to make sure that he was dead. We were given the impression that Rose pushed him in front of an oncoming train after he cheated on her. And his own mother was only interested in getting the commission for the sale of his beach house.

The funniest part was when Thomas Gibson and Jenna Elfman showed up to look at the house in their old "Dharma and Greg" roles. I guess CBS having Gibson under contract for "Criminal Minds" came in handy. He still has his comedic chops.

As far as Kutcher, he was only in half the episode and did okay (IMO). Part 2 of the episode airs next week, so you can judge for yourselves.

Bottom line: I don't think it's gonna make it past another season or two.

How about Jake and Allen? How'd they react?

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/20/11 03:19 PM

SPOILER ALERT

I wasn't too surprised at how irreverent the funeral was, yet it was kind of cold. I recognized Jenny McCarthy as one of his old girlfriends at the funeral (the girlfriends got kind of raunchy shouting out what diseases they got from Charlie.) Then again the show always has been kind of raunchy.

Kutcher's appearance by the door causing Alan to drop Charlie's ashes all over was quite funny. So was his exchange with Alan telling him he was gonna drown himself but the water was too cold. lol I laughed quite a few times actually, and think Kutcher's character "may" work although I don't know for how many more seasons. I think perhaps there is chemistry between Cryer's character and Kutcher.

But PB, I'm disappointed in you. You totally left out the part where Kutcher strips down to nothing and walks around the house . eek He walks to the kitchen in the buff the next morning and Berta only as she could do, says she approves. Oh, and when Alan's wife knocked on the door with Jake and sees a naked Kutcher hugging Alan, her remark was only that "I like him." lol

I may be old but not dead. They guy does have a nice body. (but who's looking?) lol

Alan had the best line, Tis. "Worth a billion dollars and he's hung like an elephant!" lol

SPOILER ALERT

LOL, Yea and isn't it typical for poor Allen, to bring two girls home hoping to get lucky, and Walden ends up getting lucky with both of them? lol

Btw, I do hope they get rid of the Rose character. I know I am probably alone here, but I never liked that character. She's annoying and simply not funny IMHO. Plus, she never seemed like the personality type that Charlie would go for, drunk or sober. lol

The ratings are in, and it looks like Chuck Lorre is the guy who's "winning" after all.

'Two and a Half Men' ratings huge! Ashton Kutcher debut delivers series high

by James Hibberd, Entertainment Weekly

Two and a Half Men premiere ratings are in. And they’re jaw dropping. Stunningly huge.

The ninth season premiere Monday night starring Ashton Kutcher taking over for Charlie Sheen delivered 27.7 million viewers — that’s in the ballpark of an American Idol premiere.

Even more impressive: The sitcom scored a 10.3 rating among adults 18-49. That’s easily an all-time high for the show, and up 110 percent over last fall’s eighth season debut with Sheen. Everybody expected the sitcom’s first new episode back would perform strong, but not like this.

CBS’ entire comedy lineup was strong, with the night opening with back-to-back episodes of How I Met Your Mother (11.3 million, 4.7 and 12.2 million, 5.1, respectively), that were much higher than last fall’s premiere. Following Men, new comedy 2 Broke Girls did a giant 19.1 million viewers and a 7.0 rating — down, as one would expect, from its giant lead-in, but still likely to dwarf any other new scripted series debut this fall. The only CBS show that didn’t seem to much benefit from the Men surge was Hawaii Five-0 (12 million, 3.4) at 10 p.m., which was down 13 percent from last fall, yet still won the 10 p.m. hour.
Over on NBC, another much buzzed about premiere had a very different fate: The Playboy Club bombed out at 10 p.m., drawing only 5 million viewers and a 1.6 rating. Its two-hour lead-in, the first fall edition of The Sing Off (5.2 million, 1.9), performed weakly.

CBS also crushed the premiere of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars (18.6 million, 3.9). Though ABC held up better than any other CBS rival, the two-hour premiere was down a sharp 24 percent from last fall’s edition. Good news at 10 p.m., though: The return of Castle (13.6 million, 3.3) was up 22 percent from last year.

Much more to come, including ratings for other Monday night premieres, refresh for latest

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/20/11 03:49 PM

I'm kind of surprised only because reading viewers comments (yahoo), and they took calls on the radio today in which many said they hated the show. HOWEVER, I have noticed most who hated the show also hate Kutcher. I don't know alot about Kutcher and I am not certain where the hate comes from but it's there. confused

Anyway, I am probably the only here that watches Hawaii Five- O and I love it. The beautiful backdrop makes every shot look like a postcard. For a recycled show I am surprisingly pleased and was looking forward to the season premier last night (missed the Charlie Sheen Roast which was on at the same time as Hawaii Five-O).

Ok, back on topic. wink

PB, is that the entire episode you posted? Surprised they post it so soon.

I feel the same way about "Burn Notice." The plots are thin, the acting suspect, and the overall theme is cheesy. But the South Florida scenery makes you forget all about that.

We got this in the UK last night which is fairly quick by our standards. I thought it was good, Kutcher played his part well......

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/27/11 02:52 PM

Part 2 of the premiere wasn't nearly as funny as part 1. Kutcher was fine, but the whole dynamic of the show seems to be gone for good.

I liked Charlie a lot better I do not like Ashton's character, but I will give it a try in the future before I totally judge it and write it off.

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/29/11 07:21 AM

read that in real life he's getting divorced, allegedly because of being with other women

Ashton is confused...he's not playing Charlie Harper.....think he forgot that

I mean come on Asthon, I've heard of method acting but that's too much

eheheh

what's next....a tape surfacing of him screaming and cursing out Demi?
Posted By: pizzaboy

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/29/11 01:57 PM

But what did Demi expect?

And before the women jump down my throat here, let me just say that I always say the same thing every time a dopey celebrity man marries a woman 20 years his junior (Paul McCartney, et al.).

When your partner is in his or her 50s or 60s, and you're still in your 30s and looking your very best, the shine wears off the apple pretty quick.

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 09/30/11 04:12 PM

Sorry Pizzaboy...Get your glasses checked- lol
Demi is still one hot lady.
Young guys half her age should be so lucky to catch a lady like her.

She keeps herself up that is for sure. The old, she let her self go just doesn't work there.

and just for the record, he sucks on two and a half men. Worst role move I have ever seen. If it wasn't for the rest of the old cast hitting it ever time, the show would have been pulled by now. and the best part is they have kept the kid out of most of the show...
and Berta is getting a bigger part...shes GREAT!

You're confusing "catch" as in we're only talking about sex and "hot" appeal. In that regard, you would be right.

But maybe Ashton (allegedly) left her because she's a bitch, or he's a douchebag? Having someone attractive as a partner is absolutely worthless if you can't stand them.

So true, a very good point. The old statement of " No matter how great she looks, someone is sick of her bullshit" can be noted here.

That test of time is the real killer....Day fater day after day...

Then there is another old gag..."that I married a ugly women so she won't leave me" Then his friend said that she could still leave you even if she was ugly.... and he comes back with... yes, but who cares! RIM SHOT lol

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 11/10/11 12:55 AM

just watched the new season opening episodes today. god it was awful.

actually I wasn't able to get all the way thru the end of the second episode. it is clear that they have to end this show and I predict it will happen sometime very soon. Kutcher is atrocious in that role and all scenes wrap up to either nudity or sexual/scatological humor. I don't see it going anywhere.

Re: Charlie Harper Dies Tonight - 11/10/11 03:28 AM

At 9pm Two and a Half Men saw a substantial rise in ratings on last week’s episode with 14.5 million viewers overall and 5.1 aged between 18-49 - that’s up on last week’s 4.7 18-49 rating and 13.8 million viewers overall.
