What's the point of having bread on that thing? I wonder if it's cheaper to order "Five pounds of corned beef, toasted rye on the side."

Looks a little too fatty for me

I like my CB extra lean, on a combo sandwich with cole slaw, mustard, and some nice center cut tongue, sliced thin.

That is a 26oz. sandwich which costs $24.95 and there is a pickle bar set up with all kinds of different pickles, muffins, salads and loafs and loafs of Rye Bread. So you would order a snadwich like that which feeds about 4 or 5 people and you take Rye bread from the bar to make smaller sandwiches from that huge one!

Nah TIS, I had the Brisket of Beef and if I ate 1/8th of it, that was a lot. The portions in this place are just out of control. And the food is quality food! If you go there after 6:00 PM on a Friday or a Saturday, the line is out the door! A woman next to my table ordered a potato pancake and if I tell you there were TWO pancakes on the dish, each the size of a pizza pie! The desserts are just crazy! Order a slice of chocolate cake, and they bring out a piece that is, NO EXAGERATION, about 12" high and about 6 inches thick! That is only ONE slice of the cake! An eclair is about a foot and a half long, about 5 or 6 inches high, and it takes TWO cans of whipped cream to fill it! You definatley need to go to this place with about 10 or 12 people.

Looking at that picture I just drooled all over my keyboard.

Damn, now I have a sticky "j" key.

That pastrami with an order of fries and a cream soda ..... Mmmmmmmm (oh yeah, my cholestorol pill, too).

After the voicemail you left me, I swore I'd never talk to you again! :p

That's heaven on a plate right there! OMG... if only my cholesterol was lower... oh f-it! I don't care...!!

Place by me is like $15 for half that size, with corned beef, pastrami and tongue... so what you got is a bargain! Well, except for the Dr bills and hearing "CLEAR!" over and over....

Dr Browns, of course!

My mom grew up in Brooklyn -- back then it was all about egg creams -- sounded gross to me 'til I realized eggs weren't involved.

One would never drink an egg cream with a pastrami sandwich.

BTW - For you youngins or out-of-towners or those of you who simply don't know - You can make an egg cream really easily:

Use a tall (12 oz.) drinking glass.

Fill the bottom with a half inch of chocolate syrup (Fox's U-Bet is preferred).

Add 3/4 of an inch of milk.

Add about 8 ozs of seltzer and stir.

Thats it!

Re: Hey Geoff, Guess where I went tonight? - 05/08/05 07:31 AM

Some would disagree with that procedure!!

Jim\'s Guide to Constructing the Perfect Eggcream says "Never ever add chocolate earlier in the process, because if it fraternizes with the milk before seltzer is added, you get a sticky brown head instead of a fluffy white one. Blasphemy."

But in the end, it's all good...!

What the f*ck does Jim know??! :p

Well, who the hell would add seltzer to chocolate milk? :p At that point, leave out the seltzer!

Man, that's not egg cream, that's milk chocolate! How would y'all drink that with a fatty sandwich like that?

Wanna know what the real egg cream is?

Beat an egg yolk with a fork in a tall drinking glass till it's white, creamy and stiff. Add a little vanilla and stir. Add sugar powder and water then stir a little more. Now that really needs to be called egg cream. That's what my mom used to make me when she felt I needed a boost. Of course I always hated the smell and considered that thing gross. I had my ways to pour it in the sink when she was not watching.

Afs- That's a protein drink that mom's used to give us when she thought that we weren't eating properly!

SC's recipe is the true Brooklyn Egg Cream! The secret to a really good Egg Cream is that the Milk needs to be ICE COLD!

" I'll have a chocolate egg cream and 2 pretzel rods!" " ok, that'll be .35 please!"

Mig, unfortunately they do NOT take Reservations after 5:00 PM. So if we really want to go, we need to decide before the convention who wants to really go on the Friday of the convention before 5:00PM.

I bet you that I could eat the whooooole meal [/b][/quote]Part, I'll take that bet! Never happen! I was in the place about a year ago with several business associates of mine and this guy came in with his friends and he was boasting about how he could eat the WHOLE sandwich. He was a pretty big guy too. He was sitting next to me and kept telling his buddies that they were wooses and that he would finish the whole sandwich. So I turned to him and said, " I'll make you a friendly bet. If you finish the WHOLE sandwich yourself, I will pick up the bill for your whole table. If you do not finish it, then all you have to buy me is dessert for my table." He started to laugh and said, " ok, but take your money out now because your gonna lose this one!" Well to make a long story short, my table enjoyed a nice cheese cake for dessert! The guy, maybe, ate a thrid of the sandwich and was white as a ghost!

My dad was a pharmacist and because soda fountains used to be in drug stores, he always made the best egg creams and malteds. I have to agree with SC's recipe, because that's how my dad always made them. He loved U-Bet syrup.

My other favorite was a Cherry Coke, but a real one, with cherry syrup from the fountain. The only place I've seen them lately is at Johnny Rocket's.
