Winter Food

Winter Food - 01/23/16 03:08 AM

Not everyone considers certain foods "Winter Foods" but here in N.Y. having all four seasons my family and friends always had certain types of prepared dishes to be considered winter food.

This weekend, right now as a matter of fact we are having some really good Winter weather, maybe even a blizzard.

In honor of this we have prepped for a hearty beef stew that can be served as is or over some egg noodles. We also have made a huge pot of chicken soup made from a whole chicken with the bones of course, skimming and straining the broth to be again cooked with celery as well as other veggies.

Winter Foods at its best.

Enjoy.

All sound perfect, we did our Sunday pot of Sauce with sausage, meatball and pork braciole. Pasta was rigatoni.

This is also Winter food but goes all year round until it gets really hot and the BBQ is in command on for entire weekends.

Re: Winter Food - 02/07/18 03:16 AM

Love when we have something going on and either menu changes or we go out to eat or become guests elsewhere on a Sunday.

That means the Wife will make a pot of sauce during the week rather than Sunday.
That day was today, felt like a Sunday all day with a huge pot of sauce on the stove cooking loaded with Meatballs and sausage.

Happy Days.

Made 5 - loaves today and already almost ate a half a one.
We keep two and send the others to family and friends next door.

I appreciate my man. Unfortunately, I'm out of state but one of these days we're going to have to do a meetup at McSorley's (sorry it didn't happen this previous holiday season). I'm only up in the area once a year and the time always gets away from me, from bouncing around to various friends and family to see. I didn't get down to the city as often as I would have liked to either.

Of course, we will one day....it difficult to schedule time when traveling, especially around the Holidays...things move much quicker then.

Definitely. I didn't get a chance to see everyone during the holidays. But we'll try to make it happen. I'm always game for McSorely's!

They can be tricky but every time you make them..... they are better.

A for rice balls is like Sauce and can be found anywhere.... a method is needed to develope a good batch, just like Bragiole..... it needs to be done a bunch of times and eventually, is the best one that can ever be served.

Re: Winter Food - 03/07/21 04:34 PM

After Easter we do not make winter food much, our sauce becomes more of a garden summer sauce from our own garden tomato.

We have a pot going up today and that will be it for this years winter meat sauce since Easter will be a leg o lamb.

Better get the bbq ready for business and get the yard ready soon.
