Favorite Steak Houses

Favorite Steak Houses - 08/27/11 08:53 PM

What are some of your favorite steak houses? Which has the best steak?

For me, the best steak that I ever ate was at Peter Lugers Brooklyn.

But my favorite all around steak house is Sparks.

While Sparks makes a great prime sirloin steak, Lugers undoubtedly makes the best Porterhouse that I've ever eaten.

.
Sparks also makes an outrageous lamb chop. Maybe the best that I've ever had. Order them butterflied and as an appetizer. And you cannot go there without having a lobster. The service is impeccable, and they make a really great drink. These are the reasons that Sparks is my favorite all around steak house.

And while Lugers and Sparks are my favorites, The Palm and Del Friscos are a very close second.

I've eaten at Palm West and Ruths Chris, but just am not all that impressed. They have good meat, but not enough to justify their pricetags, IMO. My husband swears that they just have better steak knives! lol

I think some of the best steaks I've ever had are at small places, like our local watering hole that makes the best prime rib and baked potato I've ever tasted. It seems silly to say that one baked potato can be so superior, but it he does something to them that just makes them delicious. They also make a delightful burger.

I should add that I had the most amazing steak tartare and prime rib at the old Cite` in NYC, but they're out of business now. frown Their wine dinner was the best buy in Manhattan. Of course, that entree was served with the 3rd bottle of wine, so they could have served me braised baseball mitt and I might have thought it delicious. lol

In chicago, for me is Gibson's. In New York I like Pietro's on 43rd street on the east side and any of the Palms.

One of the downsides of living here in rural Arizona is that good restaurants are few and far between. That includes steakhouses. BUT our local Costco always has three cuts of Prime steaks along with the Choice cuts. Their Choice is better than anyone else's but the Primes are worth every penny extra, they're that good. So, I guess my favorite steakhouse is Chez Moi.

Chez Moi is usually the best steakhouse in any town. wink

TB, how far are you from Chandler Az.?

They have a Don Shula's steakhouse. I think that TIS, GEOFF and SC will agree with me when I tell you that Shula's makes an excellent steak.

I've never had the pleasure of eating at Shula's, buy my husband ate at the one in Philly, and absolutely loved it.

My youngest daughter is a very fussy eater, and usually will only order steak in a restaurant. We went to Lidia Bastianich's restaurant in NYC when she was about 5, and, sure enough, with all the great Italian food on the menu, she would only order the ribeye. We ended up sharing, and I have to say, it was delicious.

We're about 100 miles north of Chandler. But when we go to the Valley, we eat Chinese or deli, which is what every ex-NY'er out here craves.

Shula's has an excellent steak.....but not excellent enough to drive 100 miles for! lol

I don't know, DC... the best part of Shula's (Chigago) was the company, not the over-sized, over-priced steaks. But yeah, it was okay.

I haven't (yet) been to Sparks or Lugers (I want to!)... but my question is, which chain has the best steaks? I think Outback is better than Charlie Brown's (tho I enjoy both). Want to try Texas Steakhouse, but haven't yet.... and more locally, Tifanny's is pretty good at steaks (and ribs and burgers)...

Or, he could try both - like this place in Vegas:

"Some grated cheese with your egg roll, Mr. Malta?" sick

We recently drove past in Milford, CT. Maybe they will open a branch in Arizona. The billboard ad stated that they have Chinese, American AND Italian, and that "buses were welcome". sick

Hey now, don't knock buffets -- some are fairly decent. One by me is -- mostly (for me) because of the Mongolian grill (where you plate your raw ingredients and they cook it in front of you -- my favorite!), hand-rolled sushi, and like 8-10 buffet stations of Chinese and American. Dinner includes snow & stone crab legs, beef and pork ribs, duck, salmon, lots of different shrimp preparations, etc. Not bad for $12.50. Was just there last night. blush wink

Oh, believe me, I love buffets as much as the next gal. But this one was just scary looking (and sounding).

Down in North Miami Beach, there was a buffet that was similar to what you described above, but they had King Crab legs, grilled-to-order steaks and prime rib as well as the standard Chinese fare and the hand-rolled sushi station. It was a definite stop any time we were in that area. We were in Florida this past June and found it had closed. We almost wept.

I think all Ny staeak house are pretty much the same. They are al great. They probably buy their Meats from the Meat Packing District or now in Hunts Point. Sparks, The Palm, Maloney and Porcelli, Peter Lugers, Pietro's, Smith and Wollensky, Keens, Rothman, Ruth Chris, The Capitol Grille,Old Homestead, Dylan Prime, Angelo's and Maxis are all good!

I have to admit that The Old Homestead made a huge comeback over the past few years. It was really good in the late 80's - early 90's and then seemed to decline somewhat in the late 90's to early 2000's. Then a couple of years ago I was invited to a Christmas party there and much to my surprise it was back to being what it once was. I enjoyed it so much that we wound up taking my mother in-law and father in-law there for their 50th anniversary.

Definitely back up there with the top steak houses in New York.

They have a cold seafood tower which is outstanding!

I'm sure it's not as good as the mac and cheese that Del Frisco's has on it's menu! lol

Don Cardi, I think Old Homestead became popular again when they landed the contract in Atlantic City's Borgata Hotel Steak Restaurant. Love their giant Crab Cocktails and Kobe steaks. I do love the atmosphere at the original one. Give a try to Pietros on 43rd street, it's an old style Italian Steak House that also serves Giant size Chicken Parm that is out of this world!

I think that you are right about their making a huge comeback due to landing the contract in AC.

Pietros huh? Next time I go into Manhattan to take in a play, I'll give it a try. Thanks!

You like a good Chicken Parm? Have you ever been to Tony's Di Napoli on west 43rd Street? Delicious. They also make a fantastic Steak Pizziola! And I am not a big fan of Steak Pizziola as I usually don't like red sauce on my steak. But Tony's Steak Pizziola is an exception to my rule! lol

That's funny. Actually, mine is Logan's Roadhouse. They let you eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor, the shells act as a natural cleaner on the floor. But their steaks are aged and have a great seasoned flavor. Try it!!!

Tony Di Napoli's is a great place! Perfect for anyone going to the theater!
Excellent Steak Pizziola in Pietro's Don Cardi! Hope you try it!
