Used to be Corona, but Budweiser now.

Nothing light, that's for sure.

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/19/07 02:09 PM

Right now its Stella. Usually Beck's or St. Pauli Girl, whichever is on sale. Also like Dos Equis with Mex food, and if I am in the UK or Ireland, Guinness Draft.

Bud, Corona and Miller are watered down piss.

Is it only the English that call Stella Artios(wife-beater)
Posted By: Sicilian Babe

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/19/07 04:26 PM

My husband was told that on a trip to London. He wasn't sure if his London colleagues were pulling his leg or not when they told him that if he ordered a wife-beater, the bartender would give him a Stella Artois.

A friend of mine was recently in London and ordered a different beer that was also an Artois, but not Stella. He couldn't remember the name of it, but he said it was very good.

I drink a lot of Stella and i have never raised my hands to my wife...well apart from trying to protect myself when she's had to much Stella

And lest we forget it was Marlon Brando's favorite beer. Remember his immortal line:

STELLA! STELLLLLLLLA!

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/19/07 05:54 PM

I'd love to say Stella or Kirin or Moretti, anything foreign and eclectic, but the truth of the matter is, I've been drinking Coors Light for over twenty years. I seldom stray from it. When I do, it's usually for an ice-cold Becks or Heineken.

In college my favorite was Molson Golden, eh.

In our broke 20's it was the cheapest shit my roommates and I could get our hands on, usually Old Milwaukee for $2/six-pack

Later, I acquired a taste for microbrews, foreign beers, and basically anything but American pilsners -- Sam Adams was my favorite for a while, plus Guinness, the best brew in the world.

During this period we would also brew our own - mostly stouts, porters, bocks, ales, etc.

But those didn't help my waistline any, so I switched to Miller Lite and have mostly been drinking that ever since -- just switching to Miller Lite I lost 15 pounds! \:o Every other Light beer is wretched, BTW. I love Original Coors, but cannot stand Coors Light or any Bud product whatsoever. Miller or bust! \:\)

I'm also not a fan of bitter beers like Heineken.

My favorite Summertime brew is Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse and I'll indulge now and then. Delicious!

Boddingtons rocks, too...

You have selected some outstanding ones here. A decent wheat beer is Blue Moon. It is made by Coors either in Canada or the US.

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/20/07 01:24 AM

We had a lovely little brewery near us, but it went out of business. They made a copper ale that would knock you on your ass after two. I don't remember ever being that drunk off of beer, especially after only two.

I'm really not a big beer drinker. But I do remember being served this wretched German beer at a friend's house once. It was from this little town in Germany that counted on their hops harvest and brew for their income. All the hops were in one silo and it caught fire. Because the entire town counted on the harvest and the beer, they made the beer with the blackened hops. The people decided that this would be their "signature", so they made it that way every year from then on. It was awful.

Mountain Valley Brew Pub - makers of Ruffian Copper Ale.
Excellent brew; allegedly won awards. You're trying to make me homesick SB

I like lots of different beer. Mostly ales and lagers. Wherever I am I usually try the local draught. Don't care for light beer except when playing golf. 7 or 8 do help my game.

Yeah, but it doesn't taste as good. Beer seems better suited for relaxing and liquor is for getting smashed.

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/22/07 03:25 AM

Like Geoff, I have favored Molson Golden for many years, and feel nothing beats a cold Guinness. I also have drunk Blue Moon this year and enjoy it...even though it is served with an orange wedge.

The cheap beer when I was younger was Genessee, brewed in the Poconos. Of the commercial beers today I like Miller Light Draft, and I surprisingly like Miller Chill. I have long been a fan of Rolling Rock too, but Moosehead rates top on my list.

There is a local delicious microbrew called Troeg's, which comes in several varieties, including the "Mad Elf", which comes out around Christmas time. It's relatively expensive, but I keep a case on hand for parties or gifts. It's very good.

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/22/07 08:51 PM

Out here in the Great American West, there are just tons of "microbrews" available, one better than the other. I think the only state that has more microbrews than Arizona is Colorado. (I put "microbrew" in quotes because most of them are made to order by big breweries.) My favorites right now are Pyramid Apricot Weitzen, Modolo Especial, and New Belgium Abbey. Stella Artois is good, but it's often over the hill by the time it gets out here. Blue Moon is nice, too. Two of the restaurants in town brew their own, and all of their offerings (especially their red ales) are excellent.

Kly - you sure about Genny being brewed in the Poconos? I always figured New York State - Lake Genessee; one of the Finger Lakes?

I tried Miller Chill - OK, but too much lime if you're drinking more than one. Moosehead is a long way from Miller Light Draft. Rolling Rock in bottles only.

This weekend I had a couple of Anchor Steam drafts. The bartender said that it has 6.5% alcohol. I didn't really feel them that much. They were good though. Sat on the deck of Mike's restaurant in Riva, MD, on the South River (the other side of the river is Annapolis). Beautiful setting for enjoying any beer. In fact, I find the place where you drink the beer is almost as important as the choice of beer.

Re: Favourite Beer - 10/19/07 07:55 PM

I just read that 100 years ago there were something like 30 independent breweries in Brooklyn alone, and that people would
go to the butcher, the baker, the greengrocer and the brewer on their regular shopping trips.

Apparently the giant manufacturers pretty much took over after WWII, but now they are in a panic because of the rise of microbreweries in the U.S. and abroad, as well as the superior products that are imported. Supposedly thats why Coors-Molson is now looking to take over Miller. They have to be huge to remain competitive.

My favourite beer is the one in my hands, the one I want to love, and kiss, and get naked and hug.

I have phases. Carlsberg has always been my generic 'go to' beer. It's the best for value you can get. However I will have San Miguel (good choice Oggie), or Stella. If my stomach is alright I'll got for German wheat beers - Hoergaarden etc. But my latest phase has been for Peroni and Stellas tamer sister - Peeterman Artois.

Sadly I don't drink much beer anymore. My livers enemies are wine, cider and cocktails when I see them on offer.

What brand, DeNiro?

Beer can be expensive if you buy it in bars or restaurants. I usually stop at my beer distributor once a week because friends usually stop by Sunday evenings. I usually stock Miller Lites(about $21 a case) and Blue Moons and the winter brew, Full Moon. I have a case of Troeg's Mad Elf (see the top of this page), which runs about $46 a case, but this is produced in limited supply.

Sol (and Corona; they're very much the same) is perfect for a hangover. Not too heavy, and the bottles aren't too big. The lime helps, too.

I gotta have a nice cold Mild or Guinness. A budweiser would be nice, but if nothing else is availible then Red Stripe does it nicely!

If I had to narrow it down I would say Molson Canadian or Carling but I also enjoy Labatt Blue, Budweiser and a few other beers.

I highly, highly recommend a Polish beer called Tyskie. 5.6%; it's lovely and lethal.

Two weeks ago I was alternating between pints of Stella Artois and a new discovery called Desperados, a 5.9% bottled beer with Tequila in, apparently. Later, I was kindly asked by a bouncer to leave a bar, after he saw me do a fully committed Klinsmann across the pool table. By the end of the night, I sat naked with friends in unwitting homoerotic harmony. grin

Excellent choices.
Desperados tastes a bit like Corona I find. Not very strong, and sweet. Perfect for when you don't want a hang-over.

Stella is the best beer to get drunk on. If you like it, also try Jupiler, Cristal Alken and Primus (if available in the UK).

Today I was also told that Malibu mixed with Sprite is really good. Anyone ever tried this?

Re: Favourite Beer - 01/10/09 02:51 PM

I just read this thread and was reminded of a story:

About 12-13 years ago my dad was seriously ill with heart problems. I expected that he was going to die and my sister and I flew down to North Carolina (where he was living at the time) to see him. I thought that this might be the last time I'd see him alive so I prepared a little speech in my mind so as to say "goodbye".

I went out drinking the night before with some friends and had about two hours sleep before going to the airport. Got on the first flight and had about a 90 minute layover before catching the small airline that would take us to the small town where my dad was. OK, I had 90 minutes to kill, and I wanted a cigarette or two so I looked for a place to smoke. Only the bars in the airport allowed smoking (in North Carolina, the very heart of tobacco in America!) so I went into the bar and lit up. What the hell... I was already in the bar so I ordered a beer. The bartender (a hot-looking blonde) offered me a sidecar for only a dollar more, so I said "Sure, why not" (feeling very much like Frankie Pentangeli). OK... after three boilermakers I was feeling nice and the bartender looked at me, came over and asked if I'd like to try a Carolina blonde.

I almost fell off the stool... here is this gorgeous woman asking if I'd like to have her (or so I thought). I asked her what she had in mind (knowing that I only had about 25 minutes left before my flight - probably about 24 minutes more than I'd need). She laughed when she realized what I was getting at... I must have had a confused look on my face. She explained that "Carolina Blonde" was the name of a micro-brewed beer there.

Damn!!

(I tried it... it wasn't bad, but talk about a hardon killer).

I'll have a bottle of Guinness while watching the Mich St./Carolina game with my boys tonight,
Saturday night I had a Smithwick's while puffing on a Cuban cigar. A friend of mine had military operations in South Korea a couple of weeks ago and brought some back. I'm not a big cigar guy, but this one was outstanding. I've had Cubans before, but the one Saturday night beat them all. It must have been from Fidel's private supply.

My main go-to's are:

Generic:

MGD(not the lite)
Beck's
Stella
Rickard's red

I often go for micro-brewery stuff too, mostly locals like "Maudite" or "Fin du Monde", both of which are strong beers though, if you can handle that.

I can do any of these Generics other than The Becks, years ago that was a main offering at stip clubs in NY but they get a little skunkie.

Also, not sure of the Rickard's but i will look for that.

The special brews are always interesting to me as well and I will look for those too. I enjoy the stong brew once in while, just had a Burbon beer called Backwoods Bastard, really good, its like drinking a Boiler Maker.

Not much of a Pale Ale guy, but I assume I did it right; I mean it got me drunk.

The kits are pretty cool. Each brew makes about two cases each that you bottle and can even put your own logo on. I know some people that are really into it and can make the light beers, but you need refrigeration units and it has to kept a certain temperature throughout fermentation. Definitely something I am interested in.

I started doing all grain recipes of the summer but they take so long and the clean up is a hassle. Kits are just easier, time wise and with clean up

Luckily my basement has a pretty stable temperature, 55 degrees. Trying to cold ferment an Oktoberfest says you supposed to to decrease the temperature two degrees every day from 57 to 32 but I don't have that so I just put it in my garage hopefully it does the trick.

This is a Pale Ale started Thursday night. Make wine also, the picture quality is crappy but behind the beer, one red and one white Thursday also

The white fermenting bucket is a Scotch Ale. Three other wines I have going

Brown Ale in secondary fermentation

If I brew again ,maybe I will use honey or brown sugar rather then white.

Lagunitas makes one of the best IPAs, you a hophead?

Some of my favorite IPAs:
Stone Brewery Ruination IPA
Dogfish Head 90 Minute
Alchemist Heady Topper- only had once at a Phish show
Uinta Hop Nosh

One I want to try is Pliny the Younger by Russian River Brewery, but I think they only sell them from the brewery in California

All sound Good, I will look for them, only one I have had in the group you listed is the SB Ruination.

I have been looking for Czech Beer, do you know of any particular types?

Re: Favourite Beer - 03/10/15 07:43 PM

I was actually in Prague a few years ago and the beers I remember were Pilsner Urquell and Krušovice, we had others but I "acquired" the glasses of these two when we ordered them so that's why I remember them specifically. They actually have their own version of Budweiser it reminded of more like Heineken

I really like Duvel, its a Belgian pale ale.

I also love Lindemann's lambic ale, which is like a dessert beer.

I am a fan on Belgian style brews, I plan on traveling to Belgium in a few years to check out the Trappist monastary brews.

I've never had a lambic ale it is a sour ale right? I think I have a recipe for a cherry lambic ale in a book I have
Posted By: helenwheels

Re: Favourite Beer - 04/27/15 09:24 PM

Yes, the regular lambic is sour. But the ones that have the fruit flavors are tart and sour at the same time. Its not something you'd want to drink all night, but its nice to have one after dinner or just on its own. Definitely not with food.

What did you think of the Pliny? Ive heard a lot about it, but haven't been able to try it yet. Its not available here.

I will have to pick on up I've seen them at the beer store by my house

I have to be honest with all the hype it wasn't exactly what I expected. It was good not as bitter as I thought it would be, it kind of had a fruity after taste which made it smoother finish than I thought. That being said I am not sure how old the bottle was so the flavor could have changed with age and I would love to try it from draught.

I think I liked Heady Topper better, just because I enjoy the bitterness in my IPAs.

Hop Nosh by Uinta Brewing is what I have in my fridge for the weekend, it is one of my favorites

Occasionally I do! Mostly Miller (like many Chicagoans).

I can only drink a few beers before getting tired of it. I'm more of a hard liquor guy. Which isn't a good thing lol

Re: Favourite Beer - 07/15/15 03:29 PM

@Mark,

Duff beer is going to be sold in (real life) stores.(Ha,Ha)

http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/the-...f-beer-20150712

Duff Beer, Homer Simpson's beverage of choice on The Simpsons, might soon be heading to real life coolers. The long-running show's media company, 21st Century Fox, has given the yellow thumbs up to brew an actual, officially licensed Duff Beer. However, as of now, the drink will only be available in Chile, the Wall Street Journal reports, though a worldwide release is being considered.
Sidebar
The Simpsons in celebration-mode.
150 Best 'Simpsons' Episodes of All Time »

Although Homer has been sipping on Duff for over a quarter-century, 21st Century Fox only decided to go into the beer business after countless Duff counterfeits popped up throughout Europe, South America and Mexico. While the company's lawyers have been successful in swatting down brewers hoping to capitalize on The Simpsons' worldwide recognition, because Duff doesn't actually exist in real life, 21st Century Fox have had trouble protecting the fictional beer's copyright in some countries, like Chile.

In that South American country, plenty of bootlegged Duff crept into the marketplace, and although 21st Century Fox filed an intellectual property complaint against those brewers, resulting in thousands of seized bottles, the demand for more Duff resulted in other bootleggers popping up in Colombia and Mexico. Rather than continue battling the copycats, 21st Century Fox instead decided to brew their own officially licensed product.

In 1996, an Australian company attempted to legally license the Duff brand but was rebuffed because a Simpsons-branded beer was viewed as "detrimental to children." The outbreak of bootlegged Duff, however, has changed the company's opinion on the matter. "Once you see enough piracy, you are faced with two choices," Jeffrey Godsick, president of 21st Century Fox's consumer products division, told the Wall Street Journal. "One is deciding to fight it, and the other is deciding to go out [into the market] with it."

Unfortunately for American Simpsons fans, the only place to drink a Duff currently is at the show's themed areas at Universal Studios parks in Orlando and Los Angeles. However, given The Simpsons' success, "I think there's potential to have Duff everywhere in the world," Godsick said, adding that the beer would be packaged without any mention of The Simpsons or a Homer Simpson endorsement. Sadly, that likely means Duff Man won't accompany the product into the real world.

On numerous occasions on The Simpsons, the series has joked about the questionable quality of the fictional Duff. In reality, however, British brewmaster Paul Farnsworth created a recipe for Duff that will make the beverage a "premium lager" with a "caramel aromatic."

In 2012, Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan revealed that his name was the inspiration behind The Simpsons' beer. Producers even sought McKagan's permission before using the name, and the bassist allowed it without asking for anything in return. "I knew nothing about branding yourself then or the royalties off it," McKagan told The Independent. "I just thought cool, they wanna use my name and boom, The Simpsons was born. Yeah, if I had a nickel for every time… but it's fine.”

Re: Favourite Beer - 07/15/15 09:44 PM

@gets - lol! Thanks for the heads up. I'll bet it tastes as good as a Flaming Moe!

Now, they just have to figure out a way for Fat Tony and his boys to sell a cheaper bootlegged version...

A friend of mine's son took Beer tasting at Florida State University, its an approved elective course, and said that its best to buy beer in a can than a bottle. Cans are supposedly better protect and preserve the beer from the sun and the elements. I neber heard this before and personally I don't like beer in cans. I'm going to stick to Bud Light bottles.

Re: Favourite Beer - 01/25/16 03:47 AM

I always prefer Beer from the Tap, but also from the bottle.

However, beer in tin cans from a loaded ice cooler in the Summer is really a treat, so cold.

Re: Favourite Beer - 01/25/16 09:25 AM

I probably posted on this a few times. In Germany the Germans with money don't drink German beer they drink check beer.

I have not been able to drink beer since I was a kid. When the neighboor hood started to turn from Italian to Puerto Rican. These PR's began drinking beer in our hallways. Beside that they would piss and throw up in the hallway.

So I got that beer smell, with the piss smell and the throw up smell in my head. Every time I smell beer. So I can't be near the stuff.

Re: Favourite Beer - 03/15/16 12:31 AM

For the past couple of years I've been drinking a lot of local beers. My favorite local beer is Good People Snake Handler. It's a double IPA with a 10 abv that is only canned a couple of times a year so it makes it hard to buy at the store or even specialty beer shops. I also tried and liked a beer out of Brooklyn by Sixpoint brewery called Resin. It's also a double IPA with a 9.1 abv that's really good but too expensive to buy on a regular basis. But when I'm watching a game with my father-in-law we typically drink Budweiser.

Love the six point, they have a bar on Varrick st. In NYC, that has every six point brew on tap.

It's summer. Those crisp wheat beers and Hefes go down good. I've really been in the Hefes in the past couple of weeks. Starting with Erdinger Weissbier, which was on sale at my store. Not to strong in taste but then again I'm not a fan of too much taste in the first place, especially in the hotter months. So, I'm not an IPA person, which makes me a minority these days. lol. Right now I'm drinking Widmer's American style Hefe, which also is a little light in the taste department but still a nice, smooth drink.

Also, what suggestions does anyone have for Italian imports? All that's available at my store is Peroni, which I thought tasted like most of the other popular euro lagers, like St. Paulie Girl, Stella, etc. Give me some recommendations so the next time I go to SF I can look for some, because I know I won't have much luck out here in Sacramento (Elvis Country) lol.

My favorite beer is Sam Adams followed by MGD, which for some reason is getting harder and harder to find by me. I see Miller Lite and the High Life everywhere but MGD isn't as pervasive as one would think. As for Sam, I don't like IPA's or anything like that but I do enjoy the Boston Lager, Cherry Wheat, their seasonal beers, Porch Rocker and they used to make a Blueberry Witbier but I think they discontinued it. For me Sam has a lot of flavor which I love!

I probably posted this before I can’t drink beer.

When I was a kid in Italian Harlem it was changing into Spanish Harlem.

I would get home the Puerto Rican’s would drink beer in the hallways. So you go home and the first smell was beer, then they would throw up and then they would piss in the hallways. That smell is still in my head it comes back when someone drinks a beer around me.

I go to Germany to see my Grandson. My daughters ex in laws always offer me a beer I always turn it down. I don’t even keep beer in my house for my guests.

Yes, I get dispensation for St. Patricks Day and any day or eve I go out with certain clients.

I have not had to do that yet but may tomorrow for Lunch, then I will get a few beers for Saturday’s festivities as well.
After that, not till Easter.

I typically only drink once a week regularly, out with clients once every two Months or so.
But I enjoy giving it up for Lent....somewhat.

Sure, I can certainly share what I know from assisting my good friend and neighbor who has been making wine for years and has outstanding equipment and results using his age old process.

I will put a list together with pics and send to you.

Went on a beer tour today for Shiner beer. I enjoyed it. Only my 3rd beer tour I've done and I'm starting to seek them out as this was about a 2 hour drive (one way for me). They had free tastings (up to 4). Tour was only about 45 minutes long but enjoyable. Was glad to try the other varieties as well.

Re: Favourite Beer - 07/04/18 02:26 AM

Not sure where you are but if you ever get Upstate NY Ommegang offers an outstanding tour and Blue Point Brewery offers a friendly local feel tour and sampling once a month on Long Island NY.

Not sure of any others but I hear most cities and states have really good brew tours as well as Wine in some areas.

I had a Blue Point Toasted Lager back in 2016 when at Yankee Stadium last. It was amazing! Found some in a store and it wasn't half as good. The best Guiness I've ever had was in the Audi Club at Yankee Stadium too. I don't know what is, the temperature they serve it at or what, but the beer at Yankee Stadium is delicious! I've been wanting to go to McSorley's for year's. It's in Manhattan and has the distinction as being New York City’s oldest continuously operated saloon (since 1854). They only serve 2 types of beer: light and dark. I'm hoping to go when I'm up for the holidays this year!

I get that... if the keg and tap during very cold most beers are at there best.

Been to Mc Sorleys several times, at one time it was a right of passage for locals but has become a tourist point on travel maps.
Not that anything change other than who visits and for how long and should be a destination for any beer person.

Another even better is on 7th ave & 19th St.
Peter McMannis, place is still in its original set and condition since proahbition.

I recently purchased the Sam Adams Summer variety pack and I tried the Rasberry Lemon Gose last night. Man was that good. I just recently had a Gose and have been getting in to them but Sam Adams always sets the bar for me. Unfortunately, you only get 2 in each pack and you can only get them in the variety pack. I wish they would allow you to purchase just them in a 6-pack.

2 beers I've recently had that I really enjoy. The first was my first gose I ever had by 8th Wonder Brewery. The name of the beer is Haterade. The second is a fruit beer, called Raspberry AF by St. Arnold's. I recommend both if you're in to gose's or beer with a fruit flavor.

Haterade

Raspberry AF

Looks like the Oktoberfest beers have been released as that was what I saw a lot of while picking up some beer earlier today. In addition to making my own 6 pack with a variety of beers, I picked up a 6 pack of Hofbrau Oktoberfest to try. I tried the regular Hofbrau last Sunday at a German restaurant and it tasted very similar to Spatan in my opinion. I really love this time of year with all the Oktoberfest beers plus the celebrations. The same German restaurant I went to last Sunday does Wurstfest every August, which is all you can eat sausage and they have 16 different varieties to choose from. It's a great way to try different versions to see which ones you like and which ones you don't and it runs all month long. Then they do Oktoberfest over a weekend in late September/early October.

Best time of the year, love the Fall when all these hearty beers and foods come out.

Wurstfest sounds great. We always do the Oktoberfest specials at our local haunts with several types of Knock, Weiss and other sausages with red cabbage, potatoe pancakes and outstanding choices of mustards.

Can anybody recommend any good pumpkin beers? I'm not into the whole pumpkin craze per say as a lot of people get this time of year. The only one I've had so far is Shipyard out of Rochester. I'm still waiting for Sam Adams to put out their fall collections and I know they do a pumpkin beer or 2 that I've had in years past.

I've only tried their Toasted Lager and it was great (at least at Yankee Stadium). I bought a 6 pack and it wasn't as good. I swear, I don't know what temperature Yankee Stadium serves their beer but that's the best Guinness and Bluepoint I've ever had was at their place. Thanks for the recommendation DuesPaid. I won't find it where I'm at but when I'm home for the holidays, maybe they'll have some left over?

I didn't have much success in tracking down pumpkin beers this year but I didn't look that hard either. I had the Harvest Pumpkin which was in the Sam Adams fall variety pack. Now I guess it's on to Christmas/winter beers. I enjoy Sam Adams Winter Lager and might see if anything jumps out to me this year to try.

I picked up one of those fall packs of Sam, it was really good, have the two coffee ones left, will try soon.
The black lager and leaf something as well as the Pumpkin was really good.

Also looking forward to the Holiday variety pack, The Fezzie Wig ale in that park is the best, I wish I could buys an entire case of that Stuff.

Same Adams is a great Beer, I always have and serve it On Thanksgiving every year.

Enjoy

Re: Favourite Beer - 11/08/18 07:35 PM

Sam Adams if my favorite. And yes, I always get the variety packs as well. I wasn't crazy about the coffee one but I don't like coffee. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Same with the Black Lager as well. That didn't have a heavy bite to it which I liked. One of my favorites was the Porch Rocker which is in the Spring or Summer variety. They've started to release it in 6-packs as of last year.

Instead of creating something new for the holidays you stick in Sam '76? Disappointed. I'll still need to get some 6 packs of the Winter Lager though.

Over the holiday I grabbed Sapporo and Sam Adams Winter Lager (the liquor store I went to didn't really have anything that jumped out at me). I've had them both before and I was in the mood for the Winter Lager. The Sapporo I got just to have another 6 pack and I did have one of their pints again recently so I wanted some more. However, I did go to another liquor store and got some of the Sam Adams White Christmas. I tried this for the first time either last year or in 2016 and out of the 3 I picked up, it was definitely my favorite!

I also picked up a few of these. I thought they were kinda cool. They're 25.4 fluid ounces of Miller High Life and the bottle is shaped like a champagne bottle. Pretty cheap too. Only about $3 per bottle.

I love Miller High Life, that is the best summer Beer.

I hoe I find these.

High Life was actually the first beer I ever liked

Re: Favourite Beer - 12/01/18 06:30 PM

I made my own 6-pack this week to try some beers/liquors I never had before but didn't want to buy an entire 6-pack of in case I didn't like it. This is one feature that not a lot of places in New York don't have (at least in my experience) and one which I absolutely love! I picked up: Stiegl Gold (this is their lager but for some reason, the liquors stores around me only sell the Stiegl Grapefruit which I don't like. I much prefer the Gold!), Brooklyn Brewer's Winter Lager (it's described as having chocolate, roasted barley, and dark bread. I wasn't a huge fan of it as it tasted more like a stout and I'm not much of a stout fan), Duvel (which I've seen a lot of recently but have never tried it), Lagunitas Brown Shugga' (I've never heard of this but wanted to try it because they've added brown sugar to it), and finally Henry's Hard Soda both the Grape and Orange flavors. I'm currently sipping on the Orange now and it's not bad but you can definitely taste the alcohol. On mix drinks like this I usually don't like to taste the alcohol so much but want to feel the effects, if that makes sense. I'll go through the rest and see how they are.

Very interesting, with all that detail , I will keep in mind those points , to offer recommendations on beers.
I will first say recently I had a founders called Backwoods Bastard ( you will not like) - so I don’t recommend for you, it taste like a boiler maker, its beer fermented in whisky casts, I love it.

Here is one I think you may like... I just ordered a case of it for the Holidays.
It’s from the Left Hand Brewerey called Pole Star Pilsner, easy drinker with a punch.

Here is my first Beer for my advent beer of the day.
This is an outstanding German IPA

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to keep it in mind and see if I can't buy a single to try. I tried the Lagunitas Brown Shugga' earlier and I wasn't a fan. Didn't taste the brown sugar at all and tasted more like an IPA (which I'm not a fan of either).

Love a good Pilsner

Just ordered Pole Star Pilsner from Left Hand Breweries, I get it for New Years every year.

Good Stuff.

I like to drink a lot when I drink, so pilsner is my favorite. Veltins or Heineken.

Not a huge fan of Belgian beers. Took a chance and got burned. The Stiegl was probably my favorite but I've had that before so I knew what I was getting. Overall, not a great bunch but glad I only had to buy 1 of each instead of being stuck with a 6-pack with some of this stuff.

I went by the liquor store on the way home today and made another 6 pack although I didn't try any tonight as they weren't cold enough: the Budweiser Copper Lager with Jim Beam (I've had it before but wanted another), Not You Father's Fruit Punch, Not Your Father's Moutain Ale Citrus Brew, Harpoon Winter Warmer (they got me on the Cinnamon & Nutmeg ingredients), Harpoon Dunkin' Coffee Porter (which I'm expecting to be terrible but curious enough to try it) and one which I've never heard before, Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock

You Sir are bolder than me, I love how you branch way out and try beers you know you may not even like.

I like to try many varieties as well but stay in my lane.

I saw the copper lager bud, might try one. My distributor has them in large bottle in cedar case.

Thanks DP, I like trying new things. If I don't like it, I won't get it again. And, at least this way I'm only out a single rather than an entire 6-pack. The Copper wasn't bad actually. Tasted almost like a craft beer. I'm typically not a Budweiser fan as I don't like their lager or light (taste too watered down to me). However, they do have some that I do enjoy like Bud Ice and the Bud Light Lime.

Drinking the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock and I actually quite like it. It's described as a smokebeer which I've never heard before but obviously, it has a smokey taste to it. Not bad at all.

Well I was right on the Harpoon Dunkin' Coffee Porter, it's nasty. Beer and coffee, yuck! I'm not a coffee drinker, hence the reason I knew I wouldn't enjoy it, but I was curious enough to. Strong at least at 6% alcohol by volume

LOVE Peanut Butter. I'll have to see if I can find that. Thanks for the heads up! Since my last post I've tried both the Not Your Father's Moutain Ale Citrus Brew and Harpoon Winter Warmer. I find the Sam Adams White Christmas has more flavor than the Harpoon Winter Warmer (they both have cinnamon & nutmeg) but the Harpoon was good. As was the Not Your Father's Mountain Ale Citrus Brew. It was what I expected it to be: an alcoholic Mountain Dew.

Pole Star Pilsner ( Left Hand Brewery) for sure, I am picking up a case that I ordered tomorrow and will get some others while there as well including the Old Fezzie Wig ( Sam Adams) and Celebration ( Sierra Nevada) these are my Holiday beers. I will also get the Old Dirty Bastard ( Founders ) and Blue Point Winter Ale.

If you can get any of these, I think you would like them however keep in mind the ODB founders is a beer fermented in whiskey barrels and taste like a boiler maker ( Shot of whisky in your brew).

Enjoy i12, If you cant get any of these and want to try them , let me know ...I’ll send ya some.

Re: Favourite Beer - 12/23/18 03:34 PM

Here's a good one that a guy who worked in the store recommended for me. I asked him if they sold McSorley's and he said no. I haven't been able to find it in years and the reason for that is because a few years ago they stopped mass producing it. So he recommended this to me as an alternative to their lite beer, which I find very comparable. It's not McSorley's but until they start producing it again, this is as close as you'll get.

Currently trying a Brooklyn Brewery's Bel-Air Sour. Last year was the first time I ever tried a gose and even though this isn't advertised as one, I still wanted to give it a shot. I'm not a fan of Brooklyn Brewery honestly and at first taste I didn't care for this, but after a few more, it's kinda growing on me. But I still probably wouldn't buy a 6 pack of it. This was recently in another 6 pack I made for myself which consisted of: Sam Adams Cold Snap (I've had it before but wanted to try another again), Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout (wasn't a huge fan and didn't taste much of a difference compared to regular Guinness), Guinness Blonde (I think I had had it before but I didn't like it this time around), Guinness Extra Stout (which I would recommend. It has a little bit of a punch to it at 7.5% alcohol) and Ballast Point - Victory At Sea (I got this because it was another peanut butter beer. Wasn't bad but they're all porter's and I'm not much of a porter fan).

I try to read into some of your choices and Taste.....

Try the Sam Adams Noble Pils.... it comes out in Spring, best on Tap at Resturants or in keg.

Brooklyn Brewery beers are typically stronger pours.
Try the Brooklyn Brown Ale.

Try any English Style Brown Ale, this might be your happy medium in brew.

Have you ever tried Bass Ale, if not do so,, if so, try again and let me know what you think of that stuff.

Re: Favourite Beer - 01/07/19 02:16 AM

I don't believe I've had the Sam Adams Noble Pils. I'm not sure how I feel about Pilsners but I know I'm definitely not an IPA man (and for some reason I feel IPA's and Pilsners are similar). I think I've tried Bass Ale before and enjoyed it. As for English Style Brown Ale, I've had Newcastle and enjoy that.

The Sam Pils comes out in Spring, it Good.

The Pilsner vs IPA...to me the pilsner is lighter and no heavy hop flavor like IPA.
I like both.

I have recently enjoyed a Austrian Beer, it was fantastic. so smooth and full flavor of light fruit / flowering taste.

Came in a variety pack over the holidays, hope I can find it again.... here is a pic.

Made another 6 pack recently and from one of the one's in it that I tried, I grabbed a 6-pack of: Shiner S'mores. It's a chocolate and marshmallow ale with hints of graham cracker and vanilla. Unfortunately, it's a limited-time, seasonal release so I might have to grab another 6-pack before theydo away with it. It smells good but wish it had more taste from the additives as it's just hints. I love a beer with a lot of flavor. This is mostly chocolate obviously, but would like more vanilla/graham cracker/marshmallow.

I think my local has that stuff and others like it.
Its not my type of beer but it does move off the shelf.

A friend runs and another owns our local Beer distributor so even though I’m not indulging for Lent I am in there often and find myself looking at all the choices a bit closer.
Some good interesting brews in there I must try when I get out of the Desert.

I tried a bottle of Red Stripe in the States, a few years later, but it didn't have the same taste, the same smoothness as the beer I bought in Jamaica.

I had Sam Adams Spring Fling at a Resturant on tap.
Very Hoppy and a bit sharp.

Not bad but not recommended

I've never heard of Spring Fling but I'm not a fan of hops and I know Sam makes a lot of IPAs.

Yes, just had it again...at the same restaurant. I think its a remake of their Noble Pils they would make every Spring.
I like the Noble Pils better.

I have something you may like coming up next, ( like right now) .
I will pop it open and take a pic and post remark.

Enjoy

I’ve been in the mood for German beers as of late so I stocked up on some today. Only ever had the Paulaner Oktoberfest, Hofbrau Original and Dunkel before. This will be my first time trying Ayinger Bavarian Pills and Celebrator as well as Paulaner Salvator. Prost!

Two thumbs up 👍 on these i12.

These are hearty Beers, I typically indulge in these for the Fall and Winter seasons but always enjoy anytime they are available

The Paulaner's are really good and I've had the Hofbrau's before. Kinda getting into dunkel beers but wasn't a huge fan of the Ayinger or Celebrator

I hope you liked them. I'm not a IPA person at all. I'm pretty picky with my beers but looking forward to the Oktoberfest and pumpkin beers coming for the fall. I like flavor in my beer, hence the reason Sam Adams is my favorite because there's is always flavorful but I do dig the pumpkin beers as well. Also, some of the winter beers that add cinnamon and/or nutmeg!

Tonight the Dutch beer Brand.

Brand Pilsener has a pleasant hop bitterness. However, the taste has changed since Heineken 's acquisition of Brand in 1989, because Heineken insisted on pasteurizing the beer.

Wick for Brains. Never heard of it or the brewing company before (Nebraska Brewing Company). I gave it a shot and it was pretty good. The top was weird on it. You pull the tab and the entire top of the can comes off. Kinda cool actually.

I had the Shipyards yesterday. The Ale was good but wasn't a big fan of the Smashed Pumpkin. The Ale I'd had before but not the Smashed Pumpkin. Could taste more of the cinnamon and nutmeg in the Ale (which I LOVE) as opposed to Munich Malts which are added to the SP.

Heineken beware !

The American beer giant Budweiser is coming to the Netherlands. The lager, lighter and softer in taste than the Dutch drinker is used to, must be available no later than October in the supermarket. The move is an attempt by the Belgian parent company AB InBev to make up for the worldwide declining volumes of the brand by finding new beer drinkers. Target: the young (culturally) diverse people who are active on social media.

One of my new favorites but I can't find it over here (had it while in Germany and this is what the locals love). Augustiner Helles. I've heard it's available in the states but might be in a different bottle, although I can't find it by me unfortunately. If you do come across it, I highly suggest getting it!

I like the White Christmas more than Winter Lager, but both are good. First time and best Blue Point Toasted Lager I've ever had was at Yankee Stadium. Same with Guniess (best I've ever had). I don't know what temperature they sell it at but it's darn good!

I entered a contest for rare bourbons at Total Wine and I won the right to purchase a Pappy 23. I went out the next day and dropped $364 which was their retail price. My wife wants to sell it, I want to drink it with friends. Part of me wants to keep it for a special occasion. I have five kids and the oldest is 14. Maybe save it for when he gets married of graduates college. I don't know what to do.

Thanks DP. I stocked up for the season and I'll hit the girl scouts one last time before they close up shop to last me until next year (I keep them in the fridge and ration them throughout the year). They're still good. I don't care what the Sell By/Best Date says.

Agree, most sell by dates are bullshit.

I have a bunch of beer in the garage.
Not sure if I will indulge in any Tuesday, will see.

Thank you, I think I will.

Tomorrow is a typically a big day in my Family and Home.

Looks like we will celebrate but will be quiet and small group.

St. pATRICKS day is not a drunk fest for us, we would go to church , cook Potato leek soup, Irish soda bread , corned beef & cabbage with potatos.

I will have a few drinks but no one gets hammered.

Have a great day, be safe and enjoy.

I drank pretty well myself yesterday. Had a little whiskey early on, followed by a new flavor of Leinenkugel's (Orange Shandy) plus their regular Summer Shandy (which I still think is the best), followed by some MGD's myself.

Very nice..... I used to enjoy that Lemon shandy on tap at my friends boat yard ( hate the term yacht club) but it actually is a hight falutant members only bullshit establishment.
For many a-hole reasons I always enjoyed being there and actually play and looked the part but so happy I will not even have to go there this Summer or hopefully ever again due to the COv19.

I PLAN ON GETTING OUT OUT OF A TON OF SHIT.

First and best Blur Point Toasted Lager I bad was at Yankee Stadium. Never heard of it before but it was great. Also the best Guinness I ever had was at Yankee Stadium as well. It’s the temperature they serve it at. Goes down smooth!

Yes, agree... I always enjoyed the Beer at Citi Field and Yankee Stadium once they added more choices and tap craft beers.

Having a Sam '76. Not a fan but it came in a variety pack I bought. Plus, at this point, I consider it swill because I've already had some whiskey and this is just to keep the buzz going. Nasty stuff though and I advise not buying it!

All my locals are boycotting Montauk Brewing Co. since they posted a sign and commercial for supporting progressive protests.

Law enforcement members Family and Friends found this as an insult.

I see it now. That Blue Point sounds good. I'd take a flyer on it. Unfortunately, I can't get any Blue Point by me, which sucks! Let me know how you like it and glad you were able to find the Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. I hope you enjoy that as well. I actually purchased the one underneath it the other day (The Harpoon Dunkin' Dozen). I only bought it to try the Dunkin'' Pumpkin but I also liked the Jelly Donut IPA surprisingly (I don't typically like IPA's). I haven't tried the other 2 yet but I doubt I'll like them as they're a stout and the other a porter.

i12 , surprised you do not like the porter being you are a whisky drinker.
Posted By: Irishman12

Re: Favourite Beer - 10/15/20 10:37 PM

I had the porter as well and wasn't a fan. I don't care for porters or IPA's, which was why I was surprised I liked the Jelly Donut IPA. Stout's I don't particularly like either save for Guinness. Actually purchased another 12 pack today so I could have another one on stand-by because my stores been terrible at restocking. I purchased a 6 pack of Shipyard's Pumpkinhead and when I went to go back to pick up another, they said they weren't getting any more until next year. I said are you kidding me!? One delivery and that's it for the year? I know this stuff is seasonal but they've always received multiple delivers (or at least always restock the shelf) when the items out. And this is Total Wine, a major retailer. Not some Mom & Pop shop. So I didn't take the chance and grabbed another Dunkin' pack today.

Re: Favourite Beer - 10/22/20 11:23 AM

Grolsch Kanon is also nice once in a while, it is a lager with an alcohol content of 11.6%. Grolsch Kanon is a specialty beer with a sweet taste, a powerful and robust beer that owes its character to the double fermentation at high temperatures. Brewed since 1997.

Re: Favourite Beer - 10/29/20 01:56 AM

Yup, it's Boston Lager, Sam '76, Winter Lager, Holiday White Ale (New this year), American IPA, and Holiday Porter

Attached picture sam-adams123.jpg

Re: Favourite Beer - 10/29/20 11:03 PM

So the Sam Adams White Christmas is now called the Holiday White Ale (probably because Christmas was "too offensive.") Grabbed a 6-pack today and I'll grab another tomorrow. Haven't had one yet, so don't worry but my usual spot's been running low on supplies so I'm grabbing them while they're there. Think the pandemic they're not getting as much as they have in the past and I've already made the mistake with the Shipyard Pumpkinhead to not wait too long if I want to grab another because once they're out, they're out until next year.

Did you ever track down those German beers? I'm surprised Sam didn't have the Feziwig in their variety pack this year. I'd give the "Holiday White Ale" (formerly White Christmas) a try from Sam Adams. I love it. The Winter Lager's good as well IMO.

Yes, both very good.

My local just got a shipment of Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner in and I will be getting those regularly now.
They also received a new batch of Montauk Driftwood Ale that was out of production for a while, I will post a pic when I get them while picking up some Sam Adams for the holiday.

It's personal preference really. I've always been a MGD fan. Never cared for Bud, Coors, etc because they tasted like water to me. If you haven 't had it in a while, I'd say it's worth checking out again to see if your opinions changed over the decades.

Re: Favourite Beer - 11/30/20 01:34 AM

The Holiday Christmas Ale is pretty much sold out by me 😡 Glad I stocked up when I did but plenty of Winter Lager. And I agree with you DP, good batch this year. I remember years ago when I first tried it, I loved it (we're talking probably 9-10 years ago). The next year when it came out I was eagerly anticipating it and grabbed it as soon as I saw it. Got home and tried it and was disappointed severely! It was nothing like the previous year and my father even agreed as he had it the year prior as well. I actually wrote an e-mail to Sam Adams expressing my disappointment. They responded back saying that our expectations were too high, which I felt was a complete slap in the face. The beer had no flavor and was borderline flat compared to the year prior. But to make up for it, they sent us a pair of the Sam Adams perfect pint glasses, which I appreciated. I'm a believer in the science and it's the only glass I'll drink beer out of. 🍺

I know exactly what you are saying... I felt it was jumping around every year. This one this year is very good.

I remember Coors once made a Winter special brew and it was fantastic, never made it again....dont know why, it sold like hotcakes, long time ago..... I saved one of the bottles .
Will take a pic and post to show you.

Looking forward to the picture DP because I never buy Coors so I didn't see it or try it. Was pleasantly surprised as my local store I go to today had 2 more 6 packs of the Sam Adams Holiday Christmas Ale. I grabbed both 6 packs! cool

Very cool, Coors only made these for distribution in late 80's - early 90's.
Attached here are pics of the ones I had.

I hear that Coors does still make it but for only special locations in CO.

I also loved the Sam Adams Feziwig Holiday Ale, they no longer make it.
Pic attached.

I pulled these bottles from a old shelf in garage and took pics on my Bar.

Very nice DP, thanks for sharing. Had no idea on the Coors and also don't know why Sam Adams discontinued the Old Fezziwig? Seemed like it was a popular variety. I'm just glad they didn't discontinue my White Christmas Ale and just renamed it! 🍻

Your Very Sharp i12

I think you are on to something..... I really think this years Sam Adams Winter Lager is very similar to their Fezziwig Ale ...making the Winter Lager not really a lager but a Ale.
Who's to argue with their brewmasters, we are only the people who really give ship*..... Or pay attention to that.

Nice DP! I'm currently enjoying the "Holiday Christmas Ale" right now myself. And if I go back for a second, it'll be a Winter Lager.

Re: Favourite Beer - 02/25/21 02:32 PM

Man I am missing my Beer.

Today is day 9....no Booze.

I am in the desert with Jesus.

I give up booze every year for lent.
Its supposed to be 40 days and 40 nights and its over on Palm Sunday but for some reason I always went the extra week right into Easter Sunday.

I am not hugely religious any more but continue this as a offering to my Mom and Da who are both past on.

Its no big deal, I do it with ease while getting super healthy at the same time.
It helps me curb my habbit as well since once I go back to it, I take it easy and don't want to gain back the weight I lost.
Posted By: Irishman12

Re: Favourite Beer - 02/26/21 12:05 AM

I gave it up for Lent as well DP. I'm still buying bourbon but can't drink any of it until Easter. The cut off is Easter, not Palm Sunday by the way. Like you said, I don't mind losing the weight but I'm not lying, I could use a drink right about now. Oh well, I'll make it.

No way, gotta stay strong my friend. I haven't had liquor on St. Patrick's Day in years unfortunately because I usually give up alcohol for Lent. Would love to actually celebrate it one year when it's on a weekend and truly indulge.

That's nice ! The last time I went to Germany was several years ago great country and lovely women.

Re: Favourite Beer - 03/19/21 11:37 PM

You've got that right Hollander! Beautiful women, a lot of people in that part of the country speak English so I was able to get around just fine. But I heard the further away you get from Munich (to say Berlin for example), they don't speak as much English. Can you confirm or deny this?

Re: Favourite Beer - 03/20/21 12:35 AM

In Germany everyone learns English at school, just like in the Netherlands from about 10 years old. I think in the big cities which have become more cosmopolitan most young / middle aged people speak english, but in the countryside and rural towns they only speak German. I learned German at school and used to watch german tv when I grew up, but when i'm there I'm more comfortable speaking english with them or my own mix of both lol.

Europeans are very good at learning and speaking multiple languages, probably because the nations are so close together and so closely tied economically. Here in the big, wide USA, a lot of Americans know a bit of Spanish because there are so many Hispanics here, but few are proficient in multiple languages.

Hollander, is Latin still widely taught in European primary schools?

Brand Pilsener today, one of the oldest breweries in the Netherlands (Southern Limburg).

On April 19, 1989, it is announced that Heineken has taken over the brewery from the Brand family.
A few years after the takeover, Heineken adapts the recipe for Brand Pilsener to the prevailing taste and also switches to pasteurization. As a result, the characteristic taste was largely lost.

From 1981 to 1991 Brand exported its beer in the distinctive white bottle to the United States . A worldwide sale under the Heineken umbrella is not yet on the agenda; Brand beer has been available on tap in Italy (mainly Northern Italy) since 2002.

Outstanding.

Very smooth, which is surprising since its solid dark with a cream sud.

I taste the hint of a smoked cherry and a pressed light coffee flavor.

I would place this in one of my top ten brews.

I will reach out to the brewery in Wisconsin for more info on how to score some more.

Let me know if interested, I’ll send some your way.

Bell's Two-Hearted Ale is the best IPA I've sampled so far. Harland Japanese Style Lager also very good.

Grolsch Flip Tops tonight NICE!!

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/07/22 09:34 PM

Just good beer.
From 1809 to 1954 the Grolsche Beer Brewery was called Brouwerij de Klok. For the origin of the name De Klok we have to go back in history, to the beginning of the 19th century. At that time, when the church went out, the bell tolled and it was time for a cold beer. Hence "the Clock".

As a tribute to this brewery, we have been brewing De Klok beer for several years now. De Klok beer is blond in color and fresh in taste; not too sweet and not too bitter, with 4.8% alcohol. Straightforwardly brewed by people who understand it. Cheers. It's time for the Clock.

It had been years since I had those flip tops pretty old school lol.
Now drinking Veltins a nice german pils.
Veltins Pilsener is a fresh and thirst-quenching pilsner with clear hop aromas.
A characterful pilsner with a pleasantly bitter finish.

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/11/22 07:05 PM

I recently tried two Samuel Smith (English) beers: Organic Cherry and Organic Chocolate Stout. These aren't quaffing brews to be slugged out of the bottle--they're more like dessert beverages to be sipped from a wine glass. Stupendous. Anyone else here have experience with their products?

Veltins is one of the more refreshing beers I've had. Pale lagers are always the best

Re: Favourite Beer - 09/18/22 10:07 PM

Yep Veltins is a good one.

Tonight Bavaria pilsner.

Bavaria is a Dutch beer brand that is carried by Swinkels Family Brewers . The brand was introduced when the three brothers Frans, Piet and Jan of the fifth generation Swinkels founded the company "Gebroeders Swinkels" in 1924. They moved the brewhouse in which beer had been produced until then to a newly built brewery, which took the name "Bavaria". This name is a reference to the "Bavarian beer", as bottom- fermented or pilsner beer was often called at the time.

The other day I had Hoegaarden a classic white beer. Once in a while I enjoy a white.

Hoegaarden is completely different in nature. It is a unique, authentic Belgian wheat beer with a brewing tradition dating back to 1445. Hoegaarden's brewing process is particularly complex and includes orange peels and coriander. The beer is first top-fermented and then bottled, resulting in a distinctive cloudy white look and a refreshing taste experience. Consumers in more than 70 countries worldwide can enjoy a refreshing Hoegaarden.

Not a Hoegaarden fan at all. Some of those European beers can be very skunky and nasty (at least for my taste buds) and this is one of them.

Not much of a weiss beer fan personally. My favorite beers are probably Sam Adams (their Cherry Wheat is fantastic) and MGD.

Weiss beer I do like once in a while and I enjoy drinking with my dad abbey beers, traditional Belgian beers that were brewed in an abbey. Think of the classic beer styles Blond, Dubbel, Tripel and Quadrupel made famous by Belgian Trappist monks.

Decades ago, when I lived in NYC, I bought Berliner Weisse. Poured it into an oversized brandy snifter with a tablespoon of fruit syrup, usually raspberry)at the bottom of the snifter. Curiously refreshing.

Re: Favourite Beer - 03/07/23 09:54 PM

I have a budget beer called Kordaat only sold at Lidl a chain of supermarkets in the discount segment. Lidl was founded in Germany in the 1930s as a fruit and vegetable wholesaler. In the 1970s Lidl opened in Germany the first supermarkets.

I must say for 65 euro cents per 0,50cl its a very nice pilsner, produced by Bavaria.
Not bad with these ridiculous inflation we have.

Smithwicks...the 1rst Irish brew I ever had..when I was 14 IN Ireland,,& it was my mother who snuck it 2 me @ night at the B&B across the road from the pub where all the grownup relatives were partying ...she told my old man she had go & check up on me & somehow smuggled it ...never forget that summer of '77.

Re: Favourite Beer - 03/09/23 06:24 AM

Ahhh... Smithwick's.

One of my go-to beers, particularly if I'm enjoying it in an Irish pub. Too much Guinness can give me reflux (in my sleep), so Smithwick's is a good alternative.

A little thread drift here: The other day we enjoyed our annual St. Patrick's Day For All parade just around the corner from where we live, and we then repaired to one of our many local Irish pubs where they had delicious (and free!) corned beef and cabbage with potatoes so the Missus and I hoisted a few with some friends she met up with and went home definitely happy. (Yes, I know, it really should be boiled bacon but I'm not going to get into that argument!)

Since the wife is out of town on business, I cooked up some Irish Comfort Food for myself tonight - Dublin Coddle - and I'm now relaxing with some Jameson and ginger ale and listening to some Luke Kelly music. No more beer - finished it all earlier - so my apologies for the thread drift. I'm definitely in a good place.

Years ago I bought two bottles of Chimay Belgian ale. Didn't look at the ABV on the label (12%), just drank both. Knocked my right on my ass.
