Godfather Returns signed/numbered edition - 11/16/04 05:38 PM

Hi, first time posting here. Very cool site!

I thought you guys might appreciate this. I really scored this morning. I live in Tallahassee and I guess you already know that Winegardner is a professor here at FSU. Anyway, for the release of the book today, the FSU bookstore had 350 signed numbered editions that went on sale this morning. Naturally, being a Godfather freak I was waiting in line early this morning before they opened so I could get a copy. It's pretty cool. According to the local paper they're the first copies of the book that Winegardner signed and the only numbered copies anywhere. Everyone there was buying multiple copies. I grabbed four - one for myself, a couple for Christmas presents and an extra one that maybe I'll throw up on ebay or something. They still had about a 100 copies or so left and they're going to sell those at some charity benefit tonight at FSU. Anyway I wanted to share my good fortune with some fellow GF fans who could appreciate it.

Great site!

Welcome Don Jeff (how weird does that sound?) FYI: same title as our fearless leader Don Geoff.

Anyway, that's totally cool! Lucky you. Sounds like this new GF book is starting out well.

Anyway, stick around, hope to see you contribute to our wonderful BB.

Ha, yeah I'm jealous though. I always wished my name was spelled "Geoff" insted instead of "Jeff" - sounds more British. But I didn't have much say in it.

BTW, here's an article about Winegardner from the local paper here if anyone's interested:

Welcome Jeff

You could always donate the spare copy to one of our elder statesmen and instantly gain moderator status!!

I'm sure Don Geoff or SC would appreciate the gesture!

I'm only 4 hours from Tallahasee. I wonder if I could make it there before they run out?

LOL, No thanks. I've been a forum mod before and it's a thankless job. Besides I'm not sure if I can part with it.

Like I said before though, there were a bunch of people buying multiple copies, so I'm sure they'll start popping up on ebay soon. I'm really curious to see how much they'll go for. With a huge print run and a lot of book signings coming up, regular signed first editions will be common, but this version is pretty rare.

You'd have to ask SC about the "thankless job" thing... but I disagree, as Admin. You should find this a unique forum -- we're much more like a family than most others. Sure, we have our "weird uncles" and "bratty nephews", but hey, no family is perfect!

If you think the book is gonna do very well, then hold onto your copies. Tho, it shouldn't be about the money - it should be about the passion!

I'm happy w/ my advanced galley, and I will buy the final book as well.

Exactly. That's why I would hate to sell even my extra copy. In fact I'm tempted to hoard the two I got for Christmas presents.

Well that didn't take long. somebody's already got one up on ebay. If anyone's interested the bidding is only at $26 right now:

I went ahead and put my extra copy up too last night. I had to do it since I spent our grocery money on these books and I promised my wife I'd try and sell the extra one to get our money back. I made the starting price $100 though because I'm secretly hoping it won't sell.

My wife just doesn't get it. In fact she had never seen the movies before we met. Naturally I fixed that early on and made her sit through a nine hour marathon (yes even GF III). Amazingly we're still together.
