Best Shape Athlete?

Best Shape Athlete? - 07/07/12 01:21 PM

I know there are quite a few sports fans on here, fans of all different sports. Also I see there a few guys who know about body building also. With that in mind, who do you admire from sports for their build, size shape etc? Anyone who you target as a goal when your in the gym?

Some of mine,

Mike Tyson, in his prime 220 pounds at 5 foot 11, ripped, jacked and one bad dude

There are tons of NFL guys to choose from, they have ridiculous strength and bulk. This dude Vernon Gholston was actually a major draft bust, but holy crap he is one impressive specimen! 265 pounds, 6 foot 3, he benched the 225 for 37 reps and squats 700 pounds! Impressive!

Olympic sprinters are of course in great shape, very lean and muscular but check out Great Britain sprinter Henry-Aikines Aryeetey, truly jacked!

Rugby players have to be strong and tough in a brutal sport, Sonny Bill Williams from New Zealand fits the bill, he's also a pro boxer!

Soccer players are often on the skinny side, but Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal has an impressive physique also.

I always thought that Herschel Walker was one of the fittest pure athletes I ever saw perform. At 50 years old, he is still in incredible shape to this day.

As I said on Facebook after watching the Olympic Trials, I think Olympic Gymnasts top the list. Then soccer and rugby. Then the Olympic swimmers and runners. Then basketball and whatever other sports you need to be physically fit to play (unlike football and baseball where fat guys can excel -- tho I'm not saying they're not athletes). Then I guess golf and bowling. What's left?

Id take Ronaldo's physique but with some legs, looks like he just trains upper body.

So yeah Ronaldo with a little more mass overall.

Do I remember correctly...many years ago Bobby Fischer and Boris Spatsky played chess and the match was televised on Wide World of Sports? I guess those pieces can be heavy.

Its strange, depending on where you live often dictates what people aspire to look like and what women find attractive. Living in England I found that generally, due to the climate very few people worked out seriously, there were exceptions, like Rugby players, but generally few in England have muscle. In fact there are a whole lot of shapeless people over there! So being slim, and lean is often a desired build, like a David Beckham body for example.
Coming to Perth Australia though I found everything completely different. There is year round sunshine and beaches, also Aussies are so into fitness and outdoor activity. Also here the sports are Australian Rules Football and Rugby where the build is muscular and large. So everyone I know of my age hits the gym in a big way, because you need the muscles here for the girls! In England I was about 170 pounds, now I'm about 210 and big into weights and the gym. When I go to England I feel big and athletic, but here I am just the norm.

There's women who don't like big arms on guys, but the ones who do make up for the ones who don't. There's more that like big buff dudes.

SC put up a very, very funny video of a bodybuilder saying, "I pick things up and put them down." Just the way he (the actor) said it is what made it soooo funny.

This is very true, although people in the UK are getting better and more consistent with the gym ive found over the last 5 years anyway.

I blame the drinking culture here, thats all we ever do lol.

Used to be big into weights and strength training myself before i got ill, hopefully one day i can train again.
