Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/18/06 07:24 PM

I guess so... since I probably won't be playing the daily Fast Break game on ESPN. :p

I notice last year I did some pretty good whining before I joined!

2005-2006 Final Standings
Code:

PL 21634 Gold Weiner
SP 18680 Silver Winner
JG 18143 Held on for Bronze!
DB 18052 3rd Runner-Up played hard
BB 17963 Bro put pressure on
DM 17873 Valiant catch-up effort!

Hmm, I thought DM was good at basketball. Ahh well - I guess that makes no sport he's good at! :p

Will "Big Bro" be back so I can kick BOTH Douche brothers' asses again? :p

of course you won't be playing the daily fast break since *someone* really ran away with that last year.....until I quit

JG, SC or DC: Can you please put a sticky on this thread? Thanks!

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/20/06 03:32 AM

I don't know if I'm gonna have time this season, that's the only thing holding me back.

Ah, what the hell... I missed last year's draft and regretted it all season.

I'm in.

It sure is gonna be different without Plaw though, isn't it?

Who's Yao's China Buffet? Sounds good, whoever it is... am I gonna crave Chinese all season now?

Yao's China Buffet is my older brother... Big Brother or Big Bigelow, I forget what name Plaw based the initials on.

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/20/06 05:41 PM

Thanks, DB!

And yeah, I can imagine it was hard getting around to it, I was wondering if I/we would play at all this year. But I think Plaw would be pissed if we didn't. Last year, everytime we'd chat about his Yahoo team, he'd say, "You should have joined, Zia. Next year don't miss the draft. No excuses!"

Oh, and I thought that might have been BB but I wasn't sure. I see DM's in now, too.

Yeah, I also noticed that DMC was in also. It was about time. :p

And it only took 4 Trish photos!

NOTE: There's a bug in the importer to the new BB that stickied topics aren't transferred properly, so I need to unsticky this thread.

I'd join, but I'll be away on vacation this week and would miss the draft.

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/22/06 10:34 PM

You can always let the autodraft thing pick for you, and then move things around later when you have a chance. I think you can even set preferences ahead of time. I know it's not the same, but at least you get to play.

I actually got some decent people on my baseball team that way, and we all know I suck at baseball picks... so for someone who's a little more savvy about a particular sport, it could work out better than it had for me.

Like for basketball, I wouldn't mind-- I could probably still work it to my advantage, as could you guys, I bet. Give it a shot, at least. You can always quit later if you decide to be a bad sport about it.

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/22/06 10:49 PM

Maybe I'll skip class to make the draft.....I've already skipped that class to go out with friends, go to a college football game, was too tired ummmmmm come to think of it have I ever been to that class

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/22/06 10:50 PM

That's the spirit! I was gonna suggest that, but I wasn't sure if you were that type. Evidently, you are.

THAT type?

I show up to the classes that take attendance at least haha.

I actually showed up to that class, sat down, about 2 minutes in got a call that my friends were going out, packed my things up and left haha.

I'm not sure if I'll skip it though, I don't like to skip that class too much, I usually skip 1 out of every 4 classes lol, and I have a football game to go to on November 9th hmmmmm

If not I'll let it autodraft, then pick up 4 scrubs off waivers and trade them all to JG for Lebron.....
Posted By: Letizia B.

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/22/06 10:57 PM

Yeah, classes that take attendance are important. The important thing to remember is to sit near the door so you can leave after your name is called, when the prof's eyes are still down on the paper.

And true, the scrubs for Lebron thing is always an option, as long as JG's playing. Shouldn't be too difficult.
Posted By: DonMichaelCorleone

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/22/06 11:02 PM

I'm in Nazi Germany in the 3 classes that take attendance, you have to sign in with a teaching assistant who sits RIGHT BY THE DOOR, if you want to leave you have to give your name AND SHOW ID and they mark you as absent unless you get permission, and even then its only 15 minutes before class ends......in those classes I'm using sending text messages or answering work emails or sending pms no here haha.
Posted By: Letizia B.

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/22/06 11:16 PM

That's just wrong... what the hell is that?

I've never understood why some college classes monitor attendance so strictly anyway. Like the ones who say 3 absences will lower your grade. It's so stupid. Like if showing up to class is helpful and important enough, then not showing up will affect your grade anyway, because you'll do poorly in it. Other classes, all the info is in the book, and missing a few meetings isn't going to hurt anyone.

They should just leave it alone, the stupid people will fail whether they show up or not... the smart ones will know which classes they need to show up for and which they don't, and they will learn the information and get good grades either way. There's no need to make attendace count for like 10% of one's grade. So lame. Luckily, only a few of my classes do that.

And go figure, they're the ones with the stupid profs who just paraphrase the book... they make attendance count because they're insecure about their teaching, I bet. Good professors know you're going to show up; no one ditches a good class.
Posted By: DonMichaelCorleone

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/22/06 11:23 PM

Nope, I never miss the good classes.

I had a prof who just paraphrased the book and made sure to take attendance.....because he wrote the book and refused to sell used copies so he made sure that everyone showed up to keep his class going...... my attendance is directly related to what the teacher looks like haha

It's tough to be competitive in a 'live draft league' using autodraft. Basketball is also my least favorite sport.

I'm probably going to end up autodrafting and thats it.....if I win then you guys SOOOOOOO just suck lol.

Which 5 bench players do you want for Lebron JG?

FIRST, you need to study up on how to quote people -- that's WAY more important and impressive than any team you'll end up with compared to mine....

Just joshing (not really )... anyway... I had no time to "study" or anything, so I'm gonna have to autodraft -- but -- I'm hoping to at least sit thru it while it's going on, just to be sure I cover all positions well. And, make sure I get LeBron, cuz well, he's PRIME trade bait in the first month of the season for prospects!!

I have decided to autodraft too b/c I have found letting the computer slide in some pics for you can help.

Is it possible to get I12 in here or he is tooooo busy for fantasy basketball?

Hey, it's up to the League - I was happy with my draft results, but if Ice wants those guys how could I say no? Really, tho, if he has no problem with it... But let's let Ice sleep on it and see if he feels the same way tomorrow.

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/27/06 12:55 AM

I guess now is a good a time as any to go over our league's trade policy.

Trade Policy - Trades will stay pending per Yahoo's policies.

I will only overturn trades in 2 scenarios:
1 - I am somehow convinced that an accident occurred in an accepted trade.
2 - If a trade is seriously, I mean seriously, out of whack - e.g. LeBron James for Kyle Korver. Usually, there's collusion if a trade like this goes down.

Other than that, I usually let things go. In every trade, there's going to be a side that seemingly gets the better end of the deal and I'm not one to nitpick (at least officially). I still get to complain though.

NO way thats not even close to fair. Pierce is the equivalent of a Melo. Miller/Kristic combined is an O'neal....and a K.G. on top of it? I vote no.

I don't fault you for accepting it, I would have accepted it to. But you know if you were not involved in that trade you'd be saying the same thing I am.

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/27/06 07:42 AM

I agree about our deal... I wanted Vlad from the beginning, and I remember you commenting on my Gasol pick, too. In fact, I think I only took him after seeing Vlad get snatched up. So it's all good. If anyone sees it as unfair though, it's y'all's call.

If anyone thinks it gives JG an unfair advantage then vote it down. I do want Krstic though. Thats why I made the deal, I think he will be good this yr but forgot to draft him since I already had KG and SHAQ.

the end

Ice, what in the heck are you doing??

Now this deal is absolutely over-the-top. You realize you're giving up a clear superstar and Vlad on top of that to get a guy that's out until January.

Gasol is out until January.

I didn't think I'd see a LeBron for Korver situation in our league, but if this isn't it, I don't know what is.

This is clearly getting stupid because these trades he is proposing are doing nothing but helping other teams and attempting to mess this league up......

Take it easy guys, lets not say things we don't reaally mean. I had no idea about Gasol being out until January. I should probably research these things.

Since everyone here obviously views Mellow a lot higher than I do and Shaq's FT %(or lack thereof) less of a liability than myself just cancel both deals until I'm in shape to renegotiate.

You're getting somebody that you can't use until 2007.

Zia will be getting T-Mac, a top 3 SG in the league who can, you know, actually play at the start of the season.

And you don't think one side is getting an advantage over the other?

Take it easy guys, lets not say things we don't reaally mean. I had no idea about Gasol being out until January. I should probably research these things.

Since everyone here obviously views Mellow a lot higher than I do and Shaq's FT %(or lack thereof) less of a liability than myself just cancel both deals until I'm in shape to renegotiate.

Ice, don't forget that we are a points league, not rotisserie where Shaq's FT% means guaranteed doom in the FT category.

In our points league, the points are calculated as follows:

(Points Scored + Rebounds + Steals + Assists + Blocks) - (Field Goals Missed + Free Throws Missed + Turnovers)

Sure, missed free throws hurt, but in my opinion, they aren't as significant in our league vs. in a roto league.

The Gasol thing sucks, I guess thats why he went so low. I really had no idea he was out. Yes I would love to have my money back on that one for sure.

But as for the JG deal I ran it by guys in my other 2 leagues and they don't see anything wrong w/ it.

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/27/06 03:33 PM

Ya its a money league, no I don't plan on winning!

SOLUTION:
CANCEL BOTH DEALS

ZIA-you can still have vlad and perhaps tmac but i'll find someone else on your team who is actually playing in 06'

JG-we can still do KG and SHAQ for Miller and Pierce.(if no one objects to that ) But I want Krstic still, and I'll give you someone else besides the incredulousy stoned mellow man.

AND THERE, WILL BE THE PEACE

The commisioner should be able to cancel the trades.

The other is up to the 'respected' members of the league

Re: 2006 - 2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/28/06 06:32 AM

Okay, I want to admit something-- don't hate me. I knew Gasol was out, but I didn't say anything.

BUT, in all fairness, I asked Ice several times if he was SURE he knew what he was doing, and if he really wanted this. So I approved because he was determined, and I figured if he proposes a trade without checking up on the guy, that's not my fault. If you just click on Gasol's name, the Yahoo page that comes up says in big red letters that he's out for 3 months. There's not that much research that goes into it.

In fact, I should have checked before drafting him too, but I only had 90 seconds. I'm thinking of keeping him for now and see what happens in the second half.

Anyway, I go with whatever the Commish thinks is fair-- I'm completely okay with cancelling the trade. Actually, the sooner the better, because we can't make any other trades until that gets cancelled.

I'm not dying for McGrady, but I do still want Vlad if you want to unload him. I'll look and see if there's a fair trade I have for him, and you can look too. We'll talk.

Okay, we start with games tomorrow night!

Let me just get this clear:

We have 82 Max Games for each spot in the lineup. How many games does a team play in a season?

Re: 2006-2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/30/06 05:33 PM

Each team plays an 82 game schedule.

Re: 2006-2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/30/06 05:41 PM

It's an 82 game regular season - plus two months of games for the playoffs (but we don't count these).

Zia gets:

Ice gets:
A. Miller (Den - PG)

These players will be in your lineups on Nov. 1st.

Re: 2006-2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/31/06 04:06 PM

Commissioner Update
Since this is our first trade, I don't know how Yahoo handles the trade wait time for Commish-approve-only leagues. For the Zia-Ice trade, before I approved it, it said that the trade will go into effect on Friday, Nov. 3rd. When I actually approved it and checked Zia's and Ice's roster, it showed that the trade will be effected starting tomorrow, Nov. 1st. Obviously, that is a pretty big discrepancy caused, I think, by when I actually saw and approved the trade (something I didn't want, but I guess that's the reality I'm in now).

By our settings, I have up to two days to accept or reject a trade. I'll try my best to see trades within the first 24 hours but if I don't, I apologize. After I approve a trade, we will follow Yahoo's process period. My guess is that trades are processed and effected the day after when I approve.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I wish Yahoo was a bit more automated and user-friendly when it comes to trades.

My lack of smileys in that post may have made it come off as mean, or bad attitude or something... what I meant was that the Commish shouldn't hold back just for the sake of being nice, that I genuinely want to know his opinions, if he has any.

Yeah, re-reading it now, I see it kind of looks like, "Yeah? I wanna hear what you have to say, come here, I'm gonna kick your ass." Totally not what I meant. It should have had a more "genuine concern" mood to it. Maybe I should have had pink font or something.

I'm talking about the timing issue. The trade was fine.

My problem is that because the date trades are effected now depends on when I see and approve the trade (my guess is if I approved your trade tomorrow, it would have gone into effect on Thursday), it puts me in a position that in the future, some managers might say that I didn't see their trade fast enough or I saw it too fast and that they wanted it to go into effect on this date or that date...

Does that make sense?

If it was up to me, if a trade is accepted by the parties on a particular day, it will go into effect three days after, no matter when I approve it (e.g. if a trade was accepted at 10 PM Monday night, I have until 10 PM Wednesday night to approve it and it will go into effect by 10 PM Thursday night, whether or not I approved it on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday). Yahoo's system doesn't work this way for Commish-approve leagues.

That was probably TMI, wasn't it??

But in any case, I was fine with the trade, Zia.

Re: 2006-2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 10/31/06 09:48 PM

'You know something, those daigos are crazy when it comes to their fantasy basketball leagues.'

The commish is just concerned about the time period necessary for trades to go through. We are lucky to have an active commisioner or you would have to wait until Thursday to have Vlad Rad rock your socks.

I have a question... Do you get points for players on your bench? Or do they just not count at all? And if they don't count-- would you still see how many points they would have gotten you? And what about Util? Same deal?

If they're on your bench, they don't count (they didn't "play" on your team). Util players did, so of course they count. And yes, if you look at your daily pages, you can see all the points your players earned (or would've earned had they been active)...

BTW, the Utility positions are just like any of the other positions on your team. The only difference is you can start any player in the Utility spots.

And I know they're not gonna play him, all rusty and all, in the playoffs! So I guess we're not seeing any of his game until next year. Sucks for him, but not a lot of other people are too broken up about it. If you know what I mean.

Hiya Zia.

No I was not aware until I read your post this morning. He has had knee problems throughout much of his career, and I hope his ankle is just a temporary problem. However, ankle injuries tend to nag, and it could take even longer than the 6-8 month time period to recover.

I hope this doesn't discourage the Lakers' future interest in him as a player.

Well I think it started in like February? March? I don't remember when he fell on it, but it's kept him off the court for a while already, and now it's gonna take even longer.

I don't know what they're gonna do though, honestly. I mean it's not his fault, but the people upstairs can't be happy about it.

I'm still a fan, just a critical one until he starts scoring again.

Fickle's name is Sasha, actually... good one week, then suddenly sucks the next three weeks.

Btw, incidentally... his bad streak started the day after he took a picture with Paris Hilton at the Walk of Fame Star ceremony for Jerry Buss. I'm just putting it out there. The girl is poison.

Pair that with the haircut-- disaster! The guy doesn't have a chance.

I hoped that we could come here and reason togethor. And as a reasonable man I'm willing to do whatever's necessary to--find a peaceful solution to this problem of Yao's Chinese Buffet running away with this league.

You all know me as a man of my word--a modest man--a man who's willing to listen to reason(able) trades.

Unfortunately there are some ppl () who are not familiar with the concept of sunk costs and choose to ride it out until the end w/ their sub-par teams.

You don't wanna trade? Thats fine. But you are gonna unleash the big bad wolf in me. And I'll huff, and puff, and blow your little fu*kin' team away.

Hey DB, I got a Powershot for Christmas from one of my uncles... I already had a (better) camera, but whatever, the point is, now I can make my shots POWERshots! I felt I had to share that with you. We should have seen it coming, it was like destiny. It was only a matter of time.

I already kick ass at tennis, this was all that was missing. Well, this and a few more decibels of volume when I play, if I wanna catch up to her. But I'm working on it!

You forgot one thing... You have to look smokily at your opponent, at your mirror, at your neighbor's dog... at anything actually and say:

Nope, that little red medic cross just appeared by a few of my player's names. It has not been there all season though. I have had Shaq out for most of the season and yet I have not been able to put him on the Injured list. In most leagues, when you have a guy injured, you can put him on the IL and pick up another player. Not sure if that function is disabled in this league or if Yahoo just never chose to qualify Shaq for that position!

BTW, Zia, I hope you enjoyed your short stay in fourth place!
Posted By: Don Sicilia

Re: 2006-2007 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball League - 01/17/07 03:15 PM

I believe the NBA technically doesn't have an injury list so the Yahoo Leagues just followed. I believe the NBA changed its rules a couple of years ago because teams were manipulating their lineups by placing uninjured players on the IL.

Here is the official answer from Yahoo:

Is there an injured list spot on my roster?

No, there is no IL spot in Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Basketball rosters.

The NBA no longer uses an Injured List (IL). Instead, real teams designate certain players as "inactive" just prior to game time. This designation means that a player is on the team's roster but not eligible to play in the game for which they're listed.

NBA teams are now required to carry at least 13 players, but no more than 15. Twelve of these players must be active, meaning that from one to three players must be inactive for any given game. The inactive list can include, but is not limited to, injured players.

As a result of these official changes, the IL option has been removed from the fantasy game. If you want to replace an injured player in your starting lineup, you must place him on your bench or drop him to waivers. Custom League commissioners can choose to add another bench spot to rosters when they configure their league if they deem it appropriate to offer additional flexibility to league managers.

I was worried for a second there, Zia -- that you popped into 3rd Place!

...but then I realized you're gonna run out of games in like a month for some positions (+28, +23,...)

Sorry to hijack this topic people, but I have to set this youngster straight.

Don't ever mention Eva and Jessica in the same sentence as those two. Biel and Trish couldn't even shine either of Eva's or Alba's stilletto's!

Anyway, what do you know about beauty? You're still thinking with the little head, and not the big one!

Ok, now that I've set this young man straight, you can have your topic back now.

Boooooo to my bad strategy. 2nd, I was! Second! I coulda been a contender!

Next season I'm paying a hell of a lot more attention to max games, that's sure.

Gentlemen, it's been fun. We didn't get much use out of this thread the last couple of months, not much chatting or anything, but still. I know it's not over yet, but who knows how much I'll be around this week, plus it's already over for me, so I'm giving my closing remarks now.

My congratulations to Mr. Yao,
I don't know how he did it, but wow.

And the rest of ya's,
Cheer up, losers. ;\)

Just kidding, there's more.

Well played, Douche Bigelow.
It's always fun with you, both above or below.

DMC, with my #24,
I still love you, you Kobe whore.

Ice Ice Baby,
There's always next year for the KG trade, maybe.

JG my dear,
There's a Stoli for you, right here.

And Freddie, my boo,
Wait up, Freddie who? \:p

Alright, alright, so I'm not the greatest poet. But they kind of rhymed, no?

I think those scores should hold up, commish. Thnx for the work this yr. ;\)

Ice-uck, don't get me wrong, you knows hows I likes to work it. But those 5th and 6th place team owners suck like crazy. Those two suck like craziness crayolas. One might say that they are two wild and craaaaazy.....

BTW-If we all combine forces next yr we MIGHT be able stop Yao. Our best team vs his? It would be a hell of a lot more interesting I'll tell ya that.

DMC - You made a spirited run at the end. Congrats on the bronze!

Ice - You brought some life into the league. Now if you only traded me Garnett... \:p

JG - The man who has transformed the trash-talking self jinx into an art form. Moving onto baseball...

Zia - Ran out of games by January ( \:p ), but played with style... Congrats on the Lakers making the playoffs.
