Soccer - Champions League - 09/12/05 09:34 PM

Since the real tournament starts tomorrow, I tought "Why don't I make a CL-thread."

So any toughts about the biggest football-tournament there is? And I'm saying football, since Europeans know real football is actually a game played with the feet, by 22 players. :p

Me hopes: Chelsea - Anderlecht 0-1!!!

It's been a good week finally we're seeing the return of top class European football.

Luckily for Wayne Looney he's a good footballer. Otherwise he'd be in prison by now. He needs to be taken down a peg and I have the solution to do it. Every footballer, if fit and healthy, wants to play for the full 90 minutes. Especially a tempramental one like Rooney. If I was Alex Ferguson I'd simply tell him: "If you get booked you're coming off. I can't afford to risk going down to 10 men."

Rooney is a tit!
People compare him to Gazza as a flawed genius but the difference is/was Gazza was loveable. Rooney is just a moron!
A good footballer yes....but a moron of the highest order

If there's one thing I can't see, it's Rooney's head.
The guy looks like a boxer who lost too much fights.

If fact Vilareal deserved to have won ManU. Nowadays it is one of the best teams of Spain and they play football very well.

Villareal is now only 15th.
I still think Deportivo, Valencia, Real, and Barca are the true topclubs in Spain. Villareal, Betis, and Sevilla are subtop.

I know Real is only 8th or 9th, their problem is that they don't have a midfield, but with the attackers they have now...I'm sure they will end up high.

It's over. The CL for 2005-2006.

And the winner was the best team in the world! The favourite for the title has won: FC Barcelona!

Barcelona. How can you compete with a squad that has Ronaldinho, Eto'o and soo many other stars. Congrats to them and their fans!

Re: Soccer - Champions League - 05/18/06 06:55 PM

well soccer can be cruel. Arsenal pulled the perfect underdog for 3/4 of the game, and Barcelona killed them in 5 minutes. I didn't care a single bit about this Arsenal team until yesterday. I thought Ljungberg, Fabregas and Henry were playing really fine and they really came close to surprise the whole world - it was funny to see Belletti score the winning goal and become a hero because here in Brazil he is considered a terrible player. everybody who has a bad right wing in their team says "he's almost as bad as Belletti". anyway, great game.

Barcelona are the best team in Europe without a doubt but Arsenal gave them a great game and deserve a lot of credit also!
Arsenal will come again but they will need to keep a hold of Henry.

Tony, why is Belletti considered so bad? He can easily play along in FC Barcelona, which is the best team in the world.

He may not deserve a place in the Seleçao, since Cafú and Cicinho are the same type of player as he is (very attacking rightback) but I don't think he is really that bad.

Re: Soccer - Champions League - 05/19/06 11:49 PM

I really don't know too, man. I'm not a fan of him but he can't be a bad player if he is in Barcelona and many times in the Selecao. there is even a tv commentarist here (Neto, ex-player of Corinthians) that is known for his attacks on Belleti. well, the fact is that strange things happen here. Kaka was booed by the whole Morumbi in his last games with Sao Paulo. Ronaldo is considered fat and finished, some of the best defenders in Europe are joke material for tv analists (such as Roque Junior, Cris, Bordon, Juan, even Lucio sometimes), and the best players in some european countries are bench options for the Selecao (Juninho now, Jardel, Elber, Sonny Anderson, Ailton and others in the past).

people analyze soccer from an unreal standard here.
