Managers of the Year

Managers of the Year - 11/11/04 03:50 AM

Ok, I have no problem with Buck Showalter being AL Manager of the Yeah (I REALLY thought Texas would suck in year 1 of post-A-Rod), but he did a great job with what he had & was for most of the season a playoff contender.

But come on, Bobby Cox as NL Manager of the Year!? WHY!? Who is in charge of this s**t!? For crying out loud, ever hear of Tony La Russa? Here's a guy who managed a team that was supposed to finish at best 3rd in their division. Chicago & Houston was picked by everyone to win the division, and St. Louis RAN away with it easily by at least 15 games! There's your manager of the year!!

Looks like Clemens has Johnson's Cy Young & now Cox has La Russa's Manager of the Year award. Let's not stop there. Let's give Curt "I can't stay out of the media for a single day" Schilling the AL Cy Young instead of Santana & finish it off probably by f**king over 3 guys!

La Russa has never gotten the respect he deserves, I should know I've been an A's fan for years. The baseball media always snubbed him at award time. It's true the A's did have great teams in the late 80's and early 90's but he did a lot more then just fill out the lineup cards.

I think he didn't get it because of the players he had. He had Edmonds/Pujols/Rolen THEN he added Walker to that team. I think people felt like all he did was fill out a line up card, he obviously didn't just do that but, what can you do?

Really, I don't get why Cox won. I mean its not like the Braves bombed last season then came back this year to return to the playoffs. Last I checked, the Braves won the NL East division last year and this year, so why did Cox win? Was it out of default?(like many have said about A-Rod's MVP trophy last season or even Bonds this season).

But ya, LaRussa is a great manager. Damn consistent too. I guess the NL Central with the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros was not as tough as the NL East with its Phillies and Mets and whatever. Of course the Florida Marlins were leading the division earlier this summer before that evaporated.....tsk!

Anyway, who will win the AL and NL MVP titles on monday/tuesday?

I'm pulling for Sheff to win the award, but we ALL know he'll get screwed & probably loose it to Vlad or Ortiz

Well actually, I think Sheffield will win it. He should win it at least methinks.

But who for NL MVP, besides possibly Bonds again?
