Even if you get in late, I barely broke over 200 today (33 points with only 3 games in the league played? )so I'm sure you can lap me in just a few days.

I got 27 points today and, considering that 6 of my batters didn't play, I'm happy with that.

Just for the record, I got cocky before any "big" days. :p

I was nearly done signing up my team before I re-read this and understood the lap was as in scoring. I hate not accepting challenges but it is pretty late to join in now, although I gotta believe I could at least get 0 points like JGeoff did today :p

If it really is not too late, I'll take a look at it tomorrow. Of course with no realistic thought of winning it but at least hoping to maybe making a respectible run.

I believe most of the info is probably in the early part of this thread so I'll start there.

BDD - It's definitely not too late! It's been only 1 week out of 15 (just for the first half)... the second hafe scores start over, so there's no reason not to practice now! Get in there!

Damn it I had people from the Yanks, Twins, and Pirates on my team. All got 0's. I believe a few of my other players were also idle, so my score was a whopping 20something. That sucks! My dominance has worn off already one week in! Oh well, we have 150something games left! I'll tell you what, this makes the season interesting. Usually, I just read the box scores of my Yanks and only really pay attention in the playoffs. This fantasy league gives me a real reason to watch.

It's almost like having a bet placed on a Final Four team...

Respectable? Yeah, I make last place look downright noble. We ARE a highly respectable bunch.

What a welcome. Actually I forgot until the mid afternoon that my team actually doesn't start till today - so that only puts me even further behind - ugggh. Everyone is in the 300 - 400 point range. And now with rain on the east coast some of my players probably won't even play today - so thank you everyone for ensuring that I will probably now be pissed off at some point every day now.

And I know LDV only threw the challenge my way because of past talks on fantasy football and the fact that she knew a newcomer would only cushion the distance between her and and last place. So don't feel too smug, although I am behind you now, once the scoring begins I will soon find my way on top Hey that didn't sound very good, did it? We still talking about fantasy 'baseball' now Well you know what I mean.

I don't believe I did that bad last night (and yes I know that the points don't count) but funny cause the guys I had that I was excited to have on my team did nothing and the guys I kind of threw in there got me some decent numbers. Oh it is going to be a long season for me - I can see it now. :rolleyes: What did I get myself into?

yeah, i picked the cubies too. No runs today and only one 1 yesterday when my boy Matt Clement(no, really he is my boy) was pitching. Hopefully I can keep ridin Matt's arm to the top of the standings! I guarentee 20 wins out of him this year- hes paid his dues. Off the record my bucos are in 1st place. Its still early but the 'burgh is ready to see the bonds curse end.

Now, on to serious stuff. The Red Sox play a day-night doubleheader tomorrow to make up today's rainout. According to the "How to Play" explanation, the statistics for a "delayed" game (i.e. a rain out) get counted on the day the game is played. I interpret that to mean that everyone who had Boston or Baltimore players on Friday will have their stats count on Saturday.

My question is this: Which game tomorrow counts for the staistics (presumably the one which wasn't part of the original schedule. And suppose I pick Boston as my pitcher for tomorrow? How do I knopw which game I get Pedro? I'm confused Somebody wanna read the rules and offer an opinion? Or does someone know for sure (JG ?) and not wanna tell me? I'll understand. This is, after all, war.

As for double-headers - no! If you pick the Bosox or Birds tomorrow, you will get TWO games of pitching in one day. You get NADA (zero, ziltch) for the rained-out day.

I just got home, so couldn't answer you sooner, sorry... but it's a dilemna... do you go with, like, Clemens against the D-Rays, or do you go with Pedro & Wakefield? If the BoSox win both games tomorrow, you're golden. If they split, it *may* still be better than any other single game, depending on the scores.

Cuz it's Pedro, I went w/ the double-header... you're given at least 18 innings (x3 points) to start. But of course, Pedro can give up 0-2 (or 6!) ERs, and Wakefield like 4-5... but I'm going with the 54 "given" points and work down from there, rather than the 27 points. If that made any sense

Damn I can't believe I get high points in a day and it turns out to be a weekend where I can't even crow. Hell this might never occur again so I will crow anyway - ha. Although I understand the reality is that my team did not play that well, I was just able to take advantage of the rain and poor pitches of others - but I don't really care - . I still haven't gotten out of the 40's either higher nor lower . My team is that of remarkable fluid consistency - not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

So do some of you people not sleep? Baseball conversations at 4:00am est -ha. It must have been a late night for a few of you or maybe an early morning, I can only imagine.

YOU'RE dying?!! The "smart" ones (only me?!!) who picked the Bos/Balt double-header not only lost one of the games... but PEDRO has given up 10 RUNS (and counting), and it's only the 5th freakin' inning!!!! Pedro's ERA went from 0.60 to 5.12 today. WTF?!?!!!!

OK so I see today it is going to be my turn. I am at -10 and I believe we are not in the second inning - that will teach me to talk trash to The Don

OK the rookie needs a bit of help here. I understand that tomorrow new values will be assigned to the players. It sounds from recent posts that some can go up somewhat dramatically and not be very predicitable. My question is currently one of my players is off tomorrow. If I switch him tonight with someone else, and I have only .4 below the cap there is a good chance if his value goes up that I cannot bring him back tomorrow (for Tuesday) is that correct ? What happens if say enough of my players go up to over $50M and say I am at 51M and then I need to make a move - is it that I will need to drop say a player of 3M value and pick up a player of 2M value to be within the 50M mark?

Having not gone through this value change yet, I am thinking of just taking the hit tomorrow and keeping who I have until I see and understand how it all plays out.

Any info or thoughts on this would be appreciated.

In the spirit of fair competition and friendship among board members, I'll help you out (that is if you'll take info from a guy close to last place!)

First of all, the most important number on your team screen is the Locked (LKD) Value of your team. This is the number that needs to be below 50. Currently, the Market (MRK) Value of my team is 51.3. That number doesn't matter (and is actually better, generally, if it is over 50).

In any case, here's a few scenarios that could happen to you. From the info you provided, it sounds to me like your team is valued at 49.6 (including the player that you say is off tomorrow but could possibly go up).

Scenario 1: You keep the player that isn't playing tomorrow

- In case his value goes up, you're lucky you kept him since you now have him at less than market price.

- If his value goes down, press the "Renegotiate Values" button, and his locked value (along with other players with down values) will be decreased meaning you have more points to spend. Note that the "Renegotiate Values" button only works in your favor (i.e. if a players value went up, the locked value WILL NOT go up to the higher market value.)

Scenario 2: You drop the player and pick up someone else who is playing tomorrow. For simplicity sake, let's just say that even after replacing him and pressing the "Renegotiate Value" button on Monday, your team value is still 49.6.

- If the dropped player's value goes up by greater than .4, then you cannot pick him up unless you make another value dropping move at another position.

- If the dropped player's value goes up by less than .4 or his value goes down, then you can make the switch back to that original player and still be below 50.

Hopefully, that all made sense. Just remember, the key is the Locked Value of your team (you can almost ignore the Market Value of your team.) In the example you gave, even if your market value is at 51, your locked value should still be below 50. Therefore, if you drop someone with a Locked Value of $3, then you have an extra $3 to spend.

However, if you drop a player whose locked value is lower than his market value, (for example, you have Sosa locked at $6 and his market value is $6.6 and you decide to drop him for some reason), then once you release him, you can only pick him up again if you have $6.6 of availability. That's why it's very important to keep players that you have that are "cheap" (locked in at lower than market value even if they are not playing on certain days.

Player values only increase or decrease by these amounts, as meantioned in a previous post:

-3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3

I have three players that aren't playing tomorrow, so I don't lose them at the price I'm paying. Of course, they're price could go down, and I'd have lost potential points. But I'll take the rist - I can't possibly do any worse, right?

How's this for stupid and twisted: I kept a player who wasn't playing today, to save the money, but read he wasn't playing tomorrow, so I traded him today! (And, of course, I paid more for the new player than had I just done it yesterday! )

Stay up late waiting for West Coast results, same as if I had real money on these games. I guess this proves what my shrink always said: It's not about the money, it's about the ACTION.

JG - or anyone that had the Yankees PS yesterday. I would have thought since the Yankees game ended early yesterday that the points I saw after the Giants game ended last night were true. I could have SWORN that the Yankees PS garnered -6......giving my total score for the day 14. I KNOW I saw that last night around midnight. This morning it says Yankees at -12 and my points are a whopping 8?????

Am I the only one that noticed this?

Yeah, I know... the live pictching scores are very often screwed up as they're probably entered in manual. During the overnight update, they audit the numbers. Unless you count up the points yourself, you gotta wait 'til the morning to see the right numbers. I thought I had 21 for the day
