Tommy and Tony ???? - 12/28/05 11:31 PM

Tommy from Vice City reminds me alot of Tony from scarface except Tommy was Itailian I've gotten into arguments with people who think Tommy was Spanish or something like that but its so obvious that hes itailian.

I wouldn't say it's so obvious. Just because he associated with the Forelli family, doesn't mean hes Italian. While it is probable that he is Italian, i think he was originally intended to be spanish, but by incorperating the Forelli family into the game, Rockstar could get away without being accused of copying Scarface in evey essence of the movie.

I wasn't just talking about him being with the Forelli Family he looks italian and he doesn't sound spanish either plus the part when he made his own family in Vice City.

I think the should go back to vice city like in the 90's and you play as some kid trying to get involved in the drug shit and he starts working for Tommy that would be cool.

He's gotta be Italian. He's from up north, with the Forellis, and even if he doesn't have to be Italian to be associated, his voice is played by non-other than the Good'Fella himself, Ray Liotta.

Anybody can be from up north, even with the Forellis, GTA3 showed us that with "Claude" who wasn't Italian, yet worked for the Leones. Just because his voice is done by him doesn't exactly mean anything either, Rockstar thought that Ray did the best voice job for that character, nothing to do with him being Italian or Spanish. I don't quite think that, in that time period, an Italian would have gotten along that well with Cubans or Hatians as is shown in the game.

Let's not forget that in one of the missions (don't ask me which one) Tommy has to dress up and impersonate a Cuban. That lends some credence to the theory that Tommy may have been from Cuba or a similar country.

I personally believe Tommy is Italian. Works better for me and makes it a little less like Scarface.

Bite was a porn flick but he meant that Tommy might have been cuban not that the place was Cuba.

Yes but the time was different that took place in like 1999 or 2000 whereas vice city took place in the 80's and the leone family and Forelli's are different very different I think the Leone family were the outsiders.

I personally say the Forellis were outsiders, because you don't hear anything about them aside from them running Marcos Bistro. The Leones have a mansion, own the strip club among other businesses. I really don't expect the Hatians and Cubans to get along wih an Italian from the north cutting in on their business. Not to mention its also borrowed some elements from Carlito's Way, another Pacino movie, another Spanish guy.

The Leone's may have had all that but they had no allies.

I think the families in GTA aren't very good rulers they're always fighting each other.

That doesn't mean he's Italian. I konw people who have Irish names and are Italian, or have an Italian name and are Peurto Rican.

Yeah, but why would Rockstar give him the name, accent, etc.? It's ridiculously obvious they meant him to be an Italian. Rockstar was simply giving into requests considering you weren't an Italian in GTA3. And with San Andreas they took the "gangsta" root.

Sure in real life you can say "Oh, Italian names don't mean anything" but are video games that deep? No. They just make a character. Claude was non-Italian. Vercetti was Italian, CJ was African-American. I also recall Vercetti using an Italian word or two during the game.

Again, it's a video game. It's a hybrid of Miami Vice and Scarface.

I said that shit about Tommy being Italian as a way of justifying what I so truly want to believe.
