Tony doing coke

Tony doing coke - 05/19/18 08:21 PM

Watching Season 5 of the Sopranos, I'm surprised to see Tony doing coke, especially right before a meeting with Phil and them from NY.
Did it strike anyone else as out of character for Tony, or at least, unbecoming of a mob boss, to be snorting coke? I'm not saying these guys are choir boys, but I thought drug use would be frowned up in LCN. Even if you're not an addict.

No guys like Gotti have probably done the occasional line. Some of the top guys do it every now and then and probably at social events if everyone else is doing it

Why not, because it's against the law? People from all walks of life abuse drugs, why would mob guys be any different?

Please....they were all and are into porn , drugs and or any other vice that hauls cash.
Let’s remember, we are talking about a bunch of fucked up individuals on a many levels.
Honorable? Respectable? Get the fuck out of here...that was the main part of the scam, follow the rules.... LMFAO.

Just don’t come up short or over indulge in a fashion that would bring attention and a rep showing a weakness, then your fucked because someone will take advantage of THAT weakness.
That someone will be be someone, very close to you. Who wants to Politacaly move closer to being with the Boss.

Just sayin.

And also Tony can take it of leave it where as Chrissy for example is an addict. I found him taking the acid in Las Vagas to be more out of character..

The entire theme of this show is that there is no form of sophomoric behavior that's out of character for Tony Soprano.

Carmela to Tony, when the cop has them pulled over: "You'd think they'd be out there arresting real criminals".

Love that.... Loved everytime when they showed how disconnected Carmela and the Kids where completely disconnected to the reality of who they really were.

This to me shows how Tony was actually really good at what he does, he made them believe they were within the high standards of normal society and they were not and eventually found out they were sewage.

Because it doesn't seem the kind of conduct that would befit a Boss. A Boss should be in control of himself at all times. Coke, H, that's skeevy degenerate shit. What kind of message does it send to the guys below? You have to lead by example. Especially Ton was doing coke RIGHT BEFORE a meeting with Phil Leotardo and other NY guys.

Carmela KNEW, but she rationalized it and pretended to herself and her Priest she didn't, or that it wasn't so bad. Out of sight, out of mind. Just like Tony fucking everything with a pulse was a known fact to her which she willfully ignored until it intruded on her life. She knew exactly what Tony was. She even knew for a fact he helped cover up Richie's murder. She knew he killed Puss, she even referred to Angie as a "widow" on "Tony's payroll."

Can't think of a better time to do it.

Besides, Phil was only a captain then.

Closing the deal with Adrianna always has priority over Phil. Even when he was boss.

About the Heroin, yeah I agree it is a degenerate drug and I've never seen anyone succesfull using it, maybe they were but the H makes them fucked up in short time. But cocaine is considered a high class drug and pretty expensive too. A lot of people who are wealthy are using coke, I've seen even people using it working in good paid jobs in offices and there's been politicians snorting coke as well. Another thing is the effect you get, you can think better, feel more confident about yourself, have something like a power boost - it comes if you use it rarely, not every day. If you coke your brain out every day then you'll be a retard and paranoid a lot.

The all Omerta code and guidelines that the media and officials provide us is just a show off for any criminal organization there is in this world. First, they need to show that crime is bad and how bad are the criminals and how organized and tight they are, to get the usual citizen scared. When they take them down then the cops/FBI can take the credit of what kind of a good job they did. The reality is really far from that. Just look at the examples - how many guys have snitched? Doesn't the code of their organization say to them that they shouldn't snitch?

You see, all these guys are criminals or people who are used to break and bend the law and rules wherever and whenever they can use it for their own good. Such as the mafia had the rule for their members to not get involved with another members wife/girlfriend. But a lot of them did? Such as Henry Hill's wife had an affair with Paul Vario who was a captain. Then again all the betrayals between all of them, someone wants to become the boss and they just kill the current one. Or like James Burke after the Lufhtansa heist, he never shared a cut with many of the involved in that heist but it was better for him to just execute them. So it is not miracle that any member of the mafia or even the top man - the boss will break or bend some rule of the mafia in his own favor. And snorting a little bit of coke rarely isn't the worst thing any of them is doing.

The sopranos isn’t a show about the perfect ideal mob boss. It’s a show about imperfect, deeply flawed individuals. Showing and highlighting them being hypocrites and liars.

Exactly. It shows how all of them really are.
