The acting was fine. But I suspect they left it out to further the mystery of was he or wasn't he a rat?
Unless that was supposed to be a flashback later in the series. Then you can scratch that theory.

I agree with you PB. It was not added as to put more suspense of was Sal or was he not a rat. I do not think it was meant to be a flashback shot.
