Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS***

Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 05/24/06 09:29 PM

"Phil Leotardo is not happy with the current situation. Meanwhile, Chris is becoming more like Tony. Tony helps Carmela go back to work, and A.J. finds that his job has some fringe benefits."

I wonder if this is another step towards a career in the mob for AJ.

Does anyone else reckon we are in for one hell of a cliff-hanger?

AJ's not that bright so he can't be in the mob? AJ look in the mirror, that Fredo staring right back at ya bud.
Honestly though, seems if the construction job will show anyhting is that he's got a cush job being Tony Sopranos kid. If its good enough for Finn its good enough for Baby Bing.

but with him in the mob is unreal. he wouldn't survive long. He doesnt listen to anyone. If he does get in he will prolly be killed.

They are holding out a week. It airs in June, the sunday after the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. I believe it is June 4.

Not the best ending for a season finale.. Wish they would of pushed a war a bit so I had something to look forward too..

What will happen.. Phil and Tony will get together to watch their grandkids grow?

Thats an understatement. I was disappointed in this episode (especially considering it was a season finale).

Two best lines of the night, and given within minutes of each other:

So was the Hindenburg.

A pint of blood costs more than a gallon of gold.

Pretty good episode, although a bit too much of Christopher and the drugs. Nice to see AJ growing up a bit. I thought it was funny that he bribed the teenage punks.

I was somewhat disappointed with no major whacking, although I loved the scene with Tony and Phil in the hospital.

Not a bad episode, but I too thought perhaps somemthing "big" would happen.

All and all good but a disappointing finale IMHO.

I thought it was nice how the episode was dedicated to John Patterson. Patterson directed every season finale of the show since it began in 1999, and passed away in 2005, so this was the first one he did not direct. Great tribute I thought.

Thanks Anthony,

Well, he showed that bulb's not completely burned out. When he tried the Soprano Macho act by going out and confronting the yewts, he sized up the situation and realized he couldn't handle that action. But instead of crying for Mommy or punking out, he stepped up to the line but with a different tack: offering them a taste of luxury in exchange for clearing out.

So maybe the Fredoesque AJ has a bit more Michael in him than we woulda suspected, hmm?...

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/05/06 03:28 AM

I found this artical on MSN about the finale, calling it a disappointment.

Link to the full article is below.

""Disappointing finale: This Thanksgiving- and Christmas-themed season ender is the last new "Sopranos" episode before the final eight shows kick in in January. And what a disappointment it was. Tony discovered that Christopher was sleeping with Tony's own failed conquest, Juliana, and even that didn't spark an emotional outburst. So many random plotlines in this episode seems to be just filling time. What't the incentive for viewers to even return in January? With this as the pentultimate season-ender, it feels like "The Sopranos" has started shooting blanks."

I was mortified. The show has finally hit the shitter in my books, although for some reason, I still eagerly await the final 8 eppisodes.

About Christopher "Being more like Tony," I think that was refering to how Christopher went about stealing the insurance agent from Tony. If you think back to season 4, Tony did the exact same thing to Ralphie with Valentina.

The only thing is the realtor was a Tony reject. Val was a goomar-in-progress for Ralphie Boy.

The BIG irony is, as much as Tony feels like he missed out on a real prize, he really dodged a huge bullet. Being strung out does nothing for one's sex appeal, imho.

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/05/06 04:39 AM

This has been a whole season of random plotlines. So much got started with so many different characters, and almost none of it went anywhere. I'm glad it's over because I've grown tired of being disappointed every Sunday at 10PM.

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/05/06 05:23 AM

Seriously, what the heck was that?
I feel really betrayed this season. I love this show, and the characters are great, but the lackof payoff is starting to get under my skin. If David Chase would actually commit to doing these shows in a timely fashion I think I deal. However, we wait nearly two years for a new season and it ends with a Sopranos Family Christmas.
Listen, I'm not mad, its just that this season seemed like it was on auto pilot. Granted the plane that's on auto pilot is a great plane, but you've got to do something.
Anyway, my two cents.

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/05/06 06:03 AM

Let me start by saying, I understand where the dissapointment is coming from. "Last" episode of the season and no major hits or huge plot developments...depending on how you view it. First of all, this was absolutely not the last episode of the season. No where have I read the next 8 episodes are called Season 7. They are still part of season 6. Yes, we have to no wait until January for them, but none the less they are bonus episodes which make season 6 extra long. Secondly, I agree with what Joeybats said in a different thread. This is all set up for the last 8 episodes, which makes total and complete sense. They are, as Joey correctly put, restablishing who these characters are, and what they each stand to lose when hell breaks out.

I personally believe this part of the season ended beautifully and peacefully and thats what needed to be done. The entire family (more or less) sitting around at Christmas time in a visually attractive final shot. Carmella even emphasized the fact that the family is beautiful. Now we have this picture of beauty lingering with us for the next 7 or so months. In the last eight episodes, I believe it will be torn apart.

Yes, Tony seemed to have "made peace" with Phil while he was in the hospital with the heart attack. But we must keep in mind that Phil didn't say anything back to him. Tony told him not to cry, though even if he did touch Phil with his words, we saw how Phil's crew still treated him disrespectfully. They will not understand what Tony and possibly Phil understand about the importance of life and family, etc. because of their near death experiences. Also, as the FBI agent told Tony, there are rumors of a hit of someone close to him floating around. Phil could have possibly Okayed it before the heart attack and they could carry through with it before he gets the chance to say nevermind. Then again, who says Phil will even change anyway.

I still predict a NY vs. NJ war for the final 8 episodes. I have a hard time seeing this amazing television series ending happily. (Though I wouldn't mind if it did.)

I am starting to think Chase may go another direction and there may not be a war.. Maybe this is a dream still, or maybe all good will come out of it, or maybe with Agent Harris and the Two Arabs FBI will come down on the family.

Having watced from episode one what was that we saw last night? It looked like Sopranos meets porn. Chris was doing it, A.J was doing it. When a show has to rely on that much sex there is no storyline IMHO. Of course if we saw weekly killings this would also say the show is bogus because the mob doesn't act like that. Anybody catch the line where a sit down is needed to kill a boss and there was only one instance where that didn't happen. That was a reference to John Gotti who ordered the hit on Big Paul Castellano. Bobby going to see Uncle Junior was nice. I have a feeling this is going to lead to something. I still think Junior is acting and not as feeble as everybody thinks.

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/05/06 02:28 PM

There is a conflict in Tony. Contrast the scene with Phil in the hospital with his comment at the house to Chris about the ice. One attitude or the other will win out in the end. Carmela keeps going on about Ade and Tony has put an awful lot of trust in Chris who, I think, will ultimately break down and bring Tony with him.

I also think that Don Verceti has a real good point.

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/05/06 03:37 PM

While I didn't completely hate this episode, although I thought it a very weak one, especially for a season finale. An episode like this one would have been ok if it were in the middle, or even towards the end of a season. But to use this one as a season finale was fruitless and dissapointing.

How much did we need to see with Chris and Julianna acting as crack whores? We got the point, but again, like many episodes this season, the writers beat the same old point until we're sick of it ( remember Vito? ).

I didn't buy the Hospital scene with Phil and Tony. In just a scene or two before, we see Phil, at that sitdown, totally berate and humiliate Tony with his name calling, etc. Now I'm supposed to believe that Tony is reaching out to him while Phil is facing death? Give me a break.

Another unrealistic scene for me was when Tony is in his office at Satriale's Pork Store and he goes out to sit with the FBI guy. No mob boss, or any mobster for that matter, in their right mind would be caught sitting ALL ALONE talking with an FBI agent. It's one thing when all the guys are sitting around outside and they exchange "pleasentries" with one another. But to sit all alone, inside a place, Mob Boss and FBI agent, talking one on one, is out of the realm. Totally unrealistic.

Uncle Junior? Well I for one still do NOT believe that he is as crazy as everyone thinks that he is! He was smart enough to give the money that Bobby gave back to him, to the caretaker and whisper "One hand washes the other."

And his remark to Bobby about his not being alone in the shooting of Tony. Hey! Maybe that was the "cliffhanger" that we all were waiting for!

Weak, very weak.

On the Uncle Junior situation...having had family with alzheimers these people have good days and bad days. The good are great, giving you the illusion that they're getting better...and the bad days are BAAAAAAAAD, like when they shoot you in the gut (to Tony, not to me, to be straight)

Well, I felt the same way about all the puking this season (I do appreciate the "cover-your-eyes signal" of Juliana crawling towards the garbage can, that was considerate).

That said, I didn't mind all the boffing but this new angle of Christopher seemed like a cheap way to sting out (no pun intended) the realtor character. Why even introduce the scenario of her and Tony to begin with? Why not just start with CM hooking up with her at AA? There's enough fuel for drama there without involving the big guy.

But now HERE'S a question that totally blew past me last night! Is AJ's new girlfriend the same character as Paulie's girlfriend from Season 2 (the episode where CM is recovering from the botched hit by Chip n Dale)????

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/05/06 04:38 PM

I agree that the episode was good but should not have been the last before a seven mounth lay off.

This season started out strong with three classics and it re-kindled a fire that I thought I lost for the show. But here we are 9 weeks later and I don't know what happened. I feel like an aligator that has been getting its belly rubbed for the last 9 weeks. The season did not suck but I don't feel satisfied. I'am not one that is only interested in hits, but I felt it was necessary to end on a intense solid note before the January hiatus.

I thought they were leading up to that too. The BBQ in Brooklyn, the make shift sit down, Phils tempature rising, talking about taking someone close to Tony out. It had me going and then they spoil it with Phils heart attack and Tony making nice.

I did like when Melfi told Tony he can't expect to eat every bowl of rigatoni.

And then we end with A Soprano Christmas.

The only thing that would have been more of a let down would be if they had Johnny Cakes singing "Oh Holy Night"
In the backgroud.

Thank God Deadwood starts next week

As for Tony reaching out to Phil, it was only after Agent Harris told Tony a hit was out on someone close to him. Tony was trying to make Phil see things the way that Tony now does after his near death experience. In otherwords he wanted Phil to have a different outlook on life which would make him cancel the hit.

I see your point about Agent Harris and Tony eating alone, though the fact that it was in Satriale's Pork Store does make the situation a little better considering other connected guys are constantly in the building. If they were eating alone at some random restuarant in the next town your point would be stronger. In my opinion anyway.

Wow. Frank Vincent was on "Opie and Anthony", and he didn't pull any punches about the writing of Season 6. Some quotes were: "We didn't write it. We only act." "I really don't know what is going to happen in the final 8 episodes, but he (Chase) has a lot to atone for."

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/05/06 08:57 PM

I can't picture Tony doing anything else. It's Christmas and someone close to him is threatened? What's he gonna go, bash heads with Phil and cause more violence or try to come in agreement with him?

Though I will admit, the violence-craving part of me wanted something big to happen. It would be interesting having the final scene be a murder.

You only have one legitimate plot hole there; Artie and his restaurant.

The old man in the hospital died, and Vito's storyline is done, that includes Johnny Cakes...

Also, Don Vercetti put it perfectly. Even those of us who constantly say, "Oh, I'm not watching for the whackings" wanted something violent and big to happen in the end of the episode. I admit that, and I will defend the necessity and greatness of last night's episode to the last second, but Vercetti is absolutely right. Tony trying to talk sense into Phil was what needed to be done in attempt to stop a hit on someone "close to Tony." Let us not forget that when Tony left Phil's room, Phil's crew still treated Tony disrespectfully. Just because it is possible that Phil now sees things in a new light (like Tony did in the beginning of the season) it may be too late to stop a war or at least the major hit. Phil's crew is obviously against Tony.

Well, that was quick. What? all of 5 minutes? Paulie, Bobby, AJ, Johnny Sac. They were at a charity golf game for the Hackensack Hospital.

Basically they defended the finale saying that "even in real life mafia, they don't necessarily whack someone every week" and that the show was about "family."

They teased AJ about having his first sex scene, and everyone seemed to love the show, and the cast and indicated how close they all were on/off screen.

Btw, they are raffling off a Harley Davison "Soprano" motorcycle at this charity event. Only 1,000 per ticket.

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/06/06 12:09 PM

I kind of just wish, for once, that the show would step outside of its "realistic" and anti-sensational boundaries and leave us with a nice cliffhanger or a big mysterious whacking or something like that. I mean, yes, I appreciate the show doesn't often use ridiculous plot lines, but sometimes it just gets a little boring.

The show either needs to get more mainstream (lots of hits, violence, guns, etc.) to please its simpler-minded audiences, or it needs to get more abstract (more dreams, more innovative direction choices, deeper character changes, etc.) because this current middle ground doesn't seem to be working.

I've GOT to ask two questions, and y'all tell me at the end of the '07 (Part II) episodes, when I'm proven wrong, but:

(1) Exactly how many characters do we REALLY care about on this show?

(2) Exactly how many episodes are left?

Try this yourself, fellas, 'cause I just can't think of a ninth character that makes a damn, which means that (just like in real life) a bunch of stugats are gonna survive: Bobby and Janice, probably Paulie, Hell--even Phil Leotardo will "scrape by." Is there a drift, here? Eight episodes, eight hits, a balls-to-the-wall HITFEST in '07! Somebody BIG is gonna die every damned Sunday on this show until it's all gone. My only question: Will it be Tony or Carmella who goes last? 'Cause this existence just ain't big enough for the both of 'em...

So: if I'm right, which eight (major) characters exit early? WHO GETS IT? Lemme know. Selah.

Okay,

But just for fun, the characters I personally care about: Tony, Carmella, Chris, Paulie, Sil, maybe Meadow and AJ, especially if AJ keeps up his new found maturity. Um...oh yeah, Dr. Melfi.

It was rather anti-climatic. I don't think a hit is required in every episode, but this one was alomost boring. You'd think that they could have come up with something to do in it.

The way they were doing the camera work I thought Chris was going to get it. Paulie makes the show and is my favorite. Phil Leotardo is another great charater as portrayed by Frank Vincent. We have the set up for some great stories but WTF Chase is doing is beyond me. They need 100 episodes for syndication and that is all they care about IMHO. I am glad that Deadwood is coming back.

How is that all they care about? The eight bonus episodes aren't going to reach 100 episodes.

I don't know if he ditched her, but he did have one hell of a strange look on his face lol. His big wide eyes.

There have been 77 episodes right now. Eight more makes it 85. Not even close to 100, you'd need to add another long season on top of the new eight.

I trust David Chase, he has never failed us before (in my opinion).

Does anyone know how much time will pass in the storyline between last Sunday's episode and the episode in January? Just out of curiosity. I don't think that has been revealed yet though.

all in all a good episode i thought. not what id normally expect from a finale epsiode i guess but who cares...the season kept me entertained unlike last season did. i have no complaints really, just cant wait til Jan rolls around for the 8 bonus episodes.

PS - AJ is 1 lucky s.o.b. that chic is HOT. i love my latinas. :p

Don't be surprised if Sopranos is given another season. Look at The Shield that was just renewed for another season when this was going to be it for the show when it returns.

You may have to define "syndication" because, I'm sorry, I've never heard of this 100 episode rule before.

I see more and more current-run series showing up on various cable channels. I'm sure none of the Law & Order spinoffs reached 100 before being hawked on the USA Network. Same with Without a Trace on TNT.

How did Phil know that Tony refered to him as the "Shah of Iran"?

Also, who turned in Junior for shooting Tony? What led the cops to Junior?

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/09/06 02:39 PM

Tony I believe did get the numbers 9 1 1 dialed. If no answer comes on the other end the police will come to the house it was dialed from no matter what. Trust me, I have little brothers who have idiotic friends lol. At that point I think its rather obvious who shot him. The old crazy man hiding from the police in the closet? :-p

How did Phil know? How did Johnny Sack know Ralphie made that crack about his wife's mole back in Season 4? Word of mouth.

Didn't Paulie tell him? I can't remember.

I wouldn't know, but it doesn't matter. Word of mouth. They're all within similar social circles.

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/09/06 05:58 PM

For the record little Paulie told Paulie while he was in prison in season 4. Paulie then told Johnny Sak over the phone in the same episode or the next.

-I have a question though when some one lends some money and charges a point on the premium how much is that point or two?

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 06/10/06 03:08 PM

My understanding is it's the same as when legit $ is lent: 1%.

So, if the cops picked up Junior throught he 911 call, then Tony faces having to decide if he'll testify against him, right?

Re: Season 6 Ep 12: "KAISHA" ***SPOILERS*** - 07/04/06 03:54 PM

A tame finale, and fitting conclusion to a rather reflective, slow-burner of a season. Parallel editing is once again top-notch: Phil and his boys saying "an eye for an eye", and then we immediately cut to a shot of Christopher leaving a building.

Tony's memory is dreadful: while rumours of Adriana giving him a blow job when they crashed in the car in season 5 were untrue, had they not crashed, Tony was wanting to get into her knickers quite clearly.

Recurring motifs seemed to be birds, here (again): early Thanksgiving references made to turkeys, obviously, but then later Tony calls Christopher his "turkey-neck nephew".

I loved the scene in which Tony visits Phil. Phil totally gone, physically. Tony leaning over him. How patronisingly sincere his lecture was. When Phil's crooner sort of squared up to Tony afterwards I felt a very Lynchian air; as Tony walks away, clearly towering over the guy, and then we see the guy in the background leaning up against Phil's ward, I was reminded of the Dream Man in Twin Peaks.

I love it how I can no longer watch Little Carmine without laughing all the way through his dialogue, ever since Tony said, "It's common knowledge the guy's a retard".
