Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/29/03 05:42 PM

Sorry if this has been done before but what is your all-time favorite scene in the whole trilogy? I'm still deciding so I'll get back to this later

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/29/03 05:52 PM

Scarface, the happiest contest in the world is figuring out the best scene in the Trilogy--no losers! My votes go for Connie's wedding (especially the opening scene with Bonasera) and the Havana sequence (especially Hyman Roth's soliloquey). The Dons' convention, Frankie's Senate testimony, and Michael's first encounter with Sr. Vitelli, are all contenders, too.

My favorite scene is when Vito (De Niro) is walking on the roof tops and is watching Fanucci walk down the street. Then later in that same scene, he kills Fanucci.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/29/03 06:20 PM

God what a tough question!! I suppose, my favourite scene changes with my mood, but at the moment I'd say it is either the scene when Michael says "I'll kill them both" (meaning Sollozzo and Cpt. Mcluskey), or the restaurant scene when he shoots the fuckers in the head. I can't decide between those two.

It's the bapstism, five family murder scene. Excellent editing, music, and suspense.

Part II- Vito's rise to become the most powerful Don in the movie

Part III- Vincent biting Zasa's ear and desire to push Zasa out of chopper (scene before meeting with the Dons in Atlantic City).

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/29/03 08:43 PM

Great topic. Tough to choose.

Since you said favorite 'scene' here are my choices:
GF1: The sitdown with the heads of the family
GF2: When young Vito tells Tessio & Clemenza that he will take care of the problem with Fannuci while they all eat the pasta dinner prepared by Mama Corleone
GF3: The helicopter ambush

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/30/03 12:19 PM

As you go through the scenes in your mind, the favorite keeps changing. So I stop the wheel on these few:

GF - the wedding, draws you right into the story
GF2 - Michael and Frankie's meeting in Tahoe (I welched?)
GF3 - Vincent, Joey Z, in Michael's office (bastardo!)

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/30/03 12:55 PM

My favorites in no particular order: When Carlo gets whacked, the ending scene of GFI, when Michael "makes up" with Fredo, the late flashback scene in GFII on Vito's birtday, and the last scene of GFII.

My favorite part for PT.1 is the restaurant scene
and for PT.2 its this..

PT.3 would have to be Michael yelling on the steps near the end-great acting

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/31/03 03:46 PM

my favorite scene would be the cake cutting scene where roth tells michael that " we are bigger than u.s. steel". just the cuban casinos alone, it's estimated, were taking more than 800,000,000 a year in profits prior to castro, and that would be in 1960 dollars, and, of course tax free..... one hell of a lot of finacial power

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/31/03 07:52 PM

Well THats tough but,

GFI- When Carlo gets killed and Michael walks away with Tom and Al Neri. Great and Powerful scene! grin

GFII-probably the end with the flashback

GFIII- The end on the steps is so hard to watch because Pacino and Dianne Keaton are just so good

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 08/01/03 05:08 PM

The Baptism Scene, especially when Michael talks with Carlo. He's so badass in that scene it's scary.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 08/01/03 05:33 PM

My favorite scene of the Trilogy is in Part II when Kay is telling Michael that she had an abortion.

The look on his face - especially his eyes (that "Corleone Stare" that's described in the novel) - was just incredible.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 08/01/03 10:58 PM

The Havana sequence gets my vote, as well as the whole Vito-Fanucci sequence. Fredo letting it all spill about Johnny Ola and Hyman Roth, to see Michael's face. Michael's "meal" with SOllozzo and McClusky is utter brilliance too. Fantastique!

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 08/02/03 12:44 AM

With this treasure trove of cinematic greatness, where o where to begin?

It's impossible to pick out one so I've gotta cheat and offer my faves:

* The Five Families Meeting where Vito rolls over and play "coward" but shows that he's still hardcore when he makes them all understand that Michael WILL NOT BE HARMED IN ANY WAY.

* The Restaurant Scene, not only for its power in the story but its impact behind the scenes.

* Mama Corleone's funeral

* The Baptism

* Michael's reneging on the deal with Hyman, which leads into a rant on Moe Greene.

* Michael's diabetic attack/confession.

* Mike and Kay's reconcilius interruptus.

I'm also a fan of the wedding scene at the beginning of I. But by FAR, my favorite scene of the entire trilogy is the "This is the Business we've Chosen" scene. Two magnificent actors acting magnificently.

part 3 the helicopter scene

The greatest thing about the GF Trio is the accumulation of magnificent scenes, but since we all know that, my pick for my current mood would be:

GF1-Restaurant Killings
GF3-Final Scene(s) on steps

and for GF2, I agree with the following-- when Kay is telling Michael that she had an abortion.

"The look on his face - especially his eyes (that "Corleone Stare" that's described in the novel) - was just incredible"

and also when Michael realizes Fredo betrayed him

Fredo's death in Part II is just about the most powerful scene I can think of in cinema history. Whenever I'm trying to think of why GF is my favourite film(along with Part II of course), I just think of that scene. The sound of the birds flying away from the sound of the gunshot still haunts me.

I get chills thinking about this question!

So many! Here's mine in no praticular order!

"I knew it was you, Fredo" scene in II
Finale in III
"Joey...*BANG*BANG*... Zaza!" scene in III
Michael killing Sollozzo and McCloskey in I
Death of Sonny in I
Finale of I

That's just a sampling! Haha smile

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 09/07/03 03:41 PM

I really liked the whole Vito whacking/Luca garroted/Tom picked up by Sollozzo sequence, but my fav individual scene in Part 1, is the Restaurant Shooting.

In GF2, when it pans to Michael standing in the window, looking out on the lake, and you hear Al Neri shoot Fredo, then a few seconds later, you hear a bird screetch, as you see Neri stand up, and then it pans back to a drained Michael, as he hangs his head. Probably the most powerful scene in the whole Trilogy.

My first post.
Anyhow well as far as i'm concerned my favourite scene has to be in gf2 in the court room where they were asking micheal if he was related to the mafia and all that.i also liked in gf1 when he killed solozo and the cop,man that scene was intense man.

and that's all i've got to say about that.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 01/24/04 05:34 PM

I'd go for Ma Corleone's wake.
When Michael walks through the room, up to Fredo and hugs him, the camera showing Fredo desperatley clutching Michaels back, and then Michael gives Al Neri that cold classic Pacino stare, signaling Fredo's fate in a glance. Also the musical score is a perfect accompanyment to the scene. This for me, is a classic Godfather moment.

Godfather Part 1- Execution of Five Family heads. Classic cinema.

Godfather Part II- New Years Eve Michael gives Fredo kiss of Death and reveals that he knows Fredo betrayed the family.

Godfather Part III- Joey Zasa's murder.

The Opening Scene with Bonasera and Conny's Wedding ..

Part 2: when Vito gun down Fanucci

and when Michael says "I know it was you Fredo!"

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 04/20/04 08:54 PM

One scene I find very humorous is when Luca pays his respects to the Don at Connie's wedding. Not only can't Luca spit out the words but the cutaway shot to the Don's face while Luca was talking was a pisser.

I also liked the scene where Michael ground up Carlo, getting him to crack about Sonny's murder. Classic Michael, Carlo never saw him coming. "Carlo, you grew up in Vegas, you are going to be my right hand man there." Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.
Clemenza..."Hello Carlo"

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 04/21/04 11:51 AM

Any scene with a Mr. Tom Hagen in it. wink

I also loved the whole Enzo the Baker scene at the hospital where he says "For your father...For your father..." Then when Enzo is shaking and Michael is as cool as can be.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 04/21/04 03:54 PM

Hard to say what my favourite scene is but one bit I really liked was with Michael and Johnny (the singer) in the Las Vegas scene. its only a small bit.

Michaels asks Johnny to sign a contract to appear 5 times in the casinos he was going to buy, and Johnny unreservedly agrees, with a positive "I'll do anything for my Godfather, you know that". Of course Mo Green then came in and blew away the spirit of co operativeness lmao

He didnt even question whether Michael would be able to buy them or not, (in contrast to Fredo), Good old Johnny new the score.

In fact there was a fine nobility with the family in there quest for returning favours. The people were never asked to do something out of reach of them. the 2 incidents of favour returning being the funeral parlour owner (asked to make over Sonnys body) and Johnny. In some crime flicks, people are asked to carry dodgy parcels through customs, of other potentially legally damaging activies. But it seemed if people werent criminally involved, they were never asked to do unlawfull things. (Although the favours could be demanding, the funeral owner had to respond within an hour)

Just a bit I liked.

Michael & Vito in the Garden.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 04/24/04 03:54 PM

Can I pick 3?

1)The scene where Vito learns of Sonny's death. "...but you needed a drink first... and now you've had your drink."

2)"You have to answer for Santino, Carlo."

3)Vito's funeral scene. "...then, I'll meet with Don Barzini..." Just the implications of that line... wow!! The only thing I can compare it to is the scene in Taxi Driver where Travis is leaving the whorehouse after his talk with Iris.
Gangster : "Come back any time, cowboy."
Travis : "I will."

When he said "I will." you KNOW what he meant... Just like when Michael said he would meet with Don Barzini, you knew what he meant.. Awesome.

This will more than likely change after my next viewing, but at this moment :

GF1 - The "Reverence" scene at the end
GF2 - Michael shuts the door on Kay. You catch only a glimpse of her breakdown before it closes on her pretty little face. orange
GF3 - For some odd reason, the old croon choking on his poisoned dessert at the opera. orange orange

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 05/02/04 01:25 AM

My God the impossible question!

Well i have just rewatched part one tonight (my fave film of all time!) and today ive changed my mind about my favourite scene in the film. It was previously Sonnys beating of carlo, but i now have a new number one

- We see Tessio on the phone arranging the meeting, we then see he and Tom go outside to get Michael, but then suddenly Willie Cicci appears and says that Michael will be taking another car to the meeting, Tessio seems a bit put out 'that screws up all my arrangements' he barks, but then Tom says 'I cant go either, Sal' And then in that split second - Tessio realizes he has been found out, in a supreme piece of facial acting by Abe Vigoda, he looks Tom straight in the eye and with that he knows he is doomed! He is then disarmed and makes a final plea 'Cant you get me off the hook Tom, for ol' times sake??' He says with an inconceivable grin 'Cant do it Sally' Is Tom's cold reply, with that the once Hulking Powerful Caporegime is reduced to nothing as he led into a car, powerless to prevent his onw death.

Its such a short scene, but for me, its so, so powerful and well acted.

As for my other fave scenes well here we go

- EVERY Sonny scene, my favourite character of any film, EVER
- 'You have to answer for Santino, Carlo!. For me that is Pacino's best scene.
- As Carlo gets in the car he smirks cos he thinks he's gonna live but 'Hello Carlo' WHAT a scene
- The Baptism Massacre - With 5 Highly original stlyes of death, especially the revolving door
- Woltz 'And a man in my position cant afford to made to look ridulous;
- Scene in the garden 'I said i could handle it, i handle it!
- In the hospital 'Im with you now
- The 'Ill kill em both' scene

Lets face it EVERY damn scene is great, its the most flawless film ever.

Ill do a post for part 2 after a renewed watch tomorrow

My favorite is the opening with Bonasera. To me, that scene is what the Godfather Trilogy is all about.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 05/02/04 05:11 PM

Very well said, Hollywood Finnochio. I concur, all of Sonny's scenes are maganetic!

More of my favorite scenes:
* When Vito makes his little facial grimace at
Bonasera's apology
* Moe Green's tirade at Michael in the hotel room
* Michael's face when Fredo spills the beans in
the nightclub
* The end of G1, when Kay witnesses the hand
kissing, anf the door closing.

Not including any G3 scenes, as I have never considered it worthy to be called a Godfather film.

cheers madewoman, Sonny was the coolest guy around, you just didnt MESS with him, he commanded your respect and your FEAR, an astonishing perfromance which shoul dhave won him an oscar

All from One:

- When Michael is taught how to drop the gun after using it in the restaruant

- When Talia Shire gets beat by her husband

Hey sonof70's - read my post of a few posts ago, i honour the Tessio scene - It really is excellent, and i would be so bold as to see it the finest scene i have EVER seen.

Fave Moment from Part 2

- Fredo's rejection -

'Im you're older brother Mike and i was stepped over!'
'Thats the way Pop wanted it'
'Well it aint the way i wanted it!'

John Cazale really outdoes himself here, it was this scene that i feel should have grabbed him a best supporting actor nomination, he was better than strasberg IMO.

Other Great Part II scenes

- Tom and Franks wonderful 'Roman Empire' scene - where Tom tells him in no uncertain terms that he has to kill himself in order for his family to be looked after. A great scene by 2 outstanding actors
- Michael and Fredo's cafe scene, you can really tell that Fredo loved his brother here, and majorly regretted his association with Roth, i feel for Fredo here
- Michael and Fredo - 'I know it was you, you broke my heart' Its great that Pacino and Cazale were great friends as it helped to produce these supreme scenes between the 2 brothers
- The Flashback scene - Sonny's in it, what more need be said
- The Killing of Fanucci - Wonderfully done, I love,Fanucci what a great character, De Niro does excellently here
- The killing of Ciccio - De Niro does VERY well here, you can just see him concealing his rage in the background, whilr Tommasino is talking to him, and then when he walks over its pretty much the only time we see Vito Corleone truly angry and he slices open his stomach - awesome

Deleted scene that i love is De niro getting rid of Ciccio's Two bodyguards, especially the sleeping one beautifully filmed.

GF 1
- Baptism

GF 2
- When the Cuban leader quits.

GF 3

- Michael, Vincent, Joey at the party.
- Joey Zasa's "speech" at Atlantic city especially when he says "bella figura"
- When Michael has his diabetic stroke and at the same time finds out about Altobello "Deceitful little fuck"

- When Anthony sings and then he thinks of Appolonia.

this is a tough one. so im gonna have to pick my favorite few scenes
5. sonny beating up carlo in the street(just awesome)
4. kay telling micheal she had an abortion(i know not a very happy scene but just so powerful. keaton and pacino=awesome)
3.when micheal tells appolonia's father of his intentions
2. the scene where micheal gives appolonia the necklace and the way he said prego was soo hot (sorry no deep meaning to this one just the pure pacino hottness)
1. the wedding night.(me being a girl obviously didnt like the seeing appolonias boobs, but i saw past that and i just though it was beautifully done. how micheal closes the doors, then gardually comes toward appolonia with those "bedroom eyes" like" you dont even know what i want to do to you." and then they kiss and its soo passionate. they love each other and have been waiting to be together and here it is. not that waited super long. but oh my gosh.

GFII: When Fredo was the traitor "I knew it was you Fredo, you broke my heart!", Don Vito and the murder of Fanucci, the "forgiveness" at mama Corleone's funeral between Fredo and Mike, the death of Fredo
GFIII: St. Sebastian ceremony w/ flashback, The Atlantic City Massacre, "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.", Zasa's murder, The transfer of power from Michael to Vincent, the murder on the stairs of Cavalleria Rusticana (sic)

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 05/14/04 12:57 PM

I didnt like a lot of the violence scenes in GodFather III. It was like style over substance.

The helicopter attack, Vincent overpowering the 2 would be assasins, the end scene at the opera house when the twin bodyguards were killed !! Geez

In contrast the violence in I and II looked natural and realistic, no flashy goings on, just head over there with your weapons and kill the guy. Thats maybe how it happens in real life (not that I'd know thank goodness) and therefore what entertains me.

Yeh,GF 3 is the most boring.2 is the best of the trilogy. But some scenes in GF 1 are boring, like the conersation with Vito and all the mob members like Barzini. But the most is not boring.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 05/15/04 09:29 PM

I thought about it and still I can't choose. I think my favorite scene the Godfather part 1 I'll go for the opening scene with Bonasera, when Luca Brasi wants to see Vito and the speech of Vito at the meeting with the heads of all the families. In the Godfather 2 it would be the scene with Young Vito and the landlord Roberto, but I also like the scene when Franky Pentangeli wants to hear the Tarantella and his meeting with Micheal and tells him he wants the Rosato brothers dead.

But when I watch the movies again, I think it will probably be other scenes again.

The scene where the door is closed by Neri after Michael has told here he didn't get Carlo killed is very powerful.

absolutely, the final scene of the film is definitely great

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 05/16/04 11:14 PM

This is a very hard question but here goes:

GF1-Vito dies (so sad)-Vito has his last words with Michael-Micheal speaks to Fredo in the bosthouse (so moving)-Genco dies(deleted scene).

GF2-The senate hearings-Michael finds out it was an abortion-scenes showing Vito and his kids-Michael closes the door in Kay's face.

GF3-Michael finds out Zaza is dead-The ending sequence-Mcihael gets a stroke(so sad)-The confession.

*Trilogy*-Are you kidding me? Its like asking which one of my children I love more.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 05/22/04 05:32 PM

II a- When Michael and Tom chat and Tom says "Kay had a miscarriage she lost the baby." "Was it a boy?" "Mikey, after 3 1/2 months..." "CAN'T YOU GIVE ME A STRAIGHT ANSWER ANYMORE?!! WAS IT A BOY??!!"

b- the Dec 1941 Flashback

c- when Anthony Rosato garrotes Frank and says "Michael Corleone says Hello!"

III -

a- When Michael says -- "Don't ever again give that kind of order not while i'm alive, understand?" Vincent says "You were too sick to make a decision, I got a go ahead from Neri, I got a go ahead from Connie.....It was the right decision, Uncle Michael." "It was the wrong decision. I command this family, right or wrong. It was not what I WANTED!"

b- When Michael is being helped after he gets the stroke and he starts screaming "FREDO! FREDO!"

c- The whole scene where Michael gives control to Vincent and Calo, Neri and that other guy start kissing Vincent's hand. and Neri calls him Don Corleone, Neri's line in that one reminded me of Part 1's scenes where various people respected Vito and they called him Don Corleone.

ok that's enough smile

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 06/11/04 09:27 PM

The Godfather : Michael talking to Appollonia's father -

The Godfather II : Michael shuting door on Kay's face [this is the greatest scene]/ also De Niro conversation with Don Faucci - refusing to pay his share to him

The Godfather III: Michael's crying after his daughter shot

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 06/17/04 09:19 PM

GF1: Hagen v. Woltz (rounds one and two), the
dumbfounded look on Woltzs face when Hagen
thanks him for the pleasant evening and
leaves is one of my favorite shots

Tessio v. Hagen "can you get me off the
hook?" I think woulda let him slide

GF2: Michael v. Kay after the senate hearings,
some of the best duo acting ever! When he
cannot control his rage and slaps her, man
that still gives me goosebumps

When Michael banishes Fredo from his
family "IM YOUR OLDER BROTHER MIKE! and i
was stepped over!" We really get to see the
inner workings of Fredo in this scene, such
a sad sad man

GF3: When Michael learns that Zasa was
executed. "It is not....what i WANTED"
what Al does with his face and body after
that line was great acting. Very powerful,
reminded me of Sonny

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 06/18/04 01:40 PM

This is so hard...

Part 1 - scene where Michael kills Sollozzo and McKlusky. I love the entire movie, but this scene is where it shifts for me from good old days of Vito to the shrewd days of Michael. Love that scene though, probably one of the best scenes in movies ever.

Part 2 - scene where Vito stalks Fanucci from the rooftops during the parade and then kills him. I also love all the flashback scenes to young Vito, especially in Sicily where he gets his revenge.

Part 3 - the scene on the steps of the opera to the credits. That three minute time period is one of the most powerful scenes in the trilogy.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 06/18/04 04:46 PM

GF: Sonny beating the holy hell out of Carlo. It isn't the most artistic scene in the film, and there is an infamous "12 inch punch" in there, but Carlo, that bastard, had it coming!

Part II: When Vito gives Fanucci the $100. That grin that he gives Fanucci is absolutely chilling.

Part III: The "Silent Scream". Brings tears to my eyes everytime, partly because of great acting, partly because I'm happy I don't hafta sit through another minute of Sofia Coppola's acting.

Anthony and 'Brucia la Terra' brings a tear to my eye every time.

But my favourite from the trilogy - that's hard!

Michael's 'Silent Scream' - that's another really good one. But then there's Santino being butchered at the toll booth or Hagen kidnapped by Sollozo.

I give up.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/05/04 08:18 PM

GODFATHER 1--------
The scene where Fabrizzio betrays Michael and he screams No to Appolonia before she dies. (Great because he knew even his close bodyguard can betray him)
The Baptism sequence with no doubt (Handled all family business)
The scene where Kay gets shut out ( The beginning of his life as The Don Michael Corleone)
Posted By: Santino Felice

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/05/04 08:23 PM

As for Godfather 2-----------
When Kay tells Michael she had an abortion
Kiss of Death scene
Settling all Family business scene (deaths of Michael's enemies, including Fredo)
Posted By: Santino Felice

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/05/04 08:29 PM

And finally for the Godfather 3----
The whole entire scene of letting Anthony go, and the settling of the argument between Joey ZaZa and Vincent.
Definitely the during Anthony's performance of Brucia La Terra.
The QUIET SCREAM of MICHAEL, i dont care how bad Mary's acting is that was brilliant by Michael.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/19/04 04:58 PM

GF1 - the wedding scene, in particular where connie and vito are dancing and she throws her arms around him like a little girl...really shows why his death affected her so much..she's the epitome of daddys little girl.

GF2 - has GOT to be all the scenes with RDN in particular the "pear" scene where young vito looses his job, and the "Signore Columbo" scene...which also shows how instrumental Mama Corleone was to advancing Vito's reputation throughout the neighborhood...not just a spaghetti cooking baby maker, without her gentle influence, he'd just be known as another thug/murderer, and not the strong, family orientated, just, protector he earned respect for.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/21/04 05:51 PM

My favorite scene is the one scene that was done in GF1 between Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. Robert Towne wrote the scene and my favorite line is "I always thought that you would be the one to pull the strings.... Senator Corleone, Gov. Corleone" That line just gives me chills. I especially like that line given that the trademark Godfather book cover and title has the Marionett strings on the letters.

Probably the best directed scene in the movie is the shooting of Sollozo and McCluskey, especially the train taking off in Mike's head

Here at work reading everyone's replies and yes they are all my favorite scenes too - PuppetMistress, for the life of me I can't picture the scene you are speaking of, when Nero says Carlo was not killed. Sorry but could you give me the scene before or after? I'm racking my brain trying to figure it out. Was it in the trilogy, because that I don't have frown
But the best scene is when Michael sees Appolonia - that stare.......meow!

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/21/04 09:55 PM

For me, in Part II, after the attempted assassination of Michael. Michael and Rocco are outside, and Michael says "I want them alive." Rocco: "We'll try."
Michael: "ROCCO! ALIVE!!!"

Great delivery.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 07/22/04 01:35 AM

GF1: I just can't get over the scene when Michael and Enzo were waiting outside the hospital until Sollozzo's men came to kill Don Corleone. Michael was cool in that scene....Also the scene when Michael was confronting Carlo asking him who approached him to set-up Sonny....Of course, the baptism where the 5 heads of the Mafia Families were killed.

GF2: When Michael found out that Fredo betrayed him....Fredo's death scene....Vito Corleone holding Michael in his arms after killing Fanucci.

GF3: Michael's confession...really touching! smile

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 08/14/06 08:59 AM

GF I- "I believe in America." What an opening! On the big screen it's phenomenal. You don't see shots like that in film. That one phrase sets the stage for the entire series. It's one of the great openings in cinema.

GF II- Kay vs. Michael. Michael is now betrayed by his own wife. Kay keeps wanting Michael to be the man she married. In this film, any scene between them, is fantastic. One I haven't seen mentioned is Michael's return to Tahoe. He comes into the house and it's so quiet it's just desolate. You can feel the complete isolation between Kay and Michael; just the sound of the sewing machine whirring in the background. You can taste the loneliness of the place. It's a tomb. Shades of things to come.

GF III- First off, I love the shot of the bishop sailing down the rotunda, it's beautiful. As much of a loss as this film is, my favorite scenes, again, are Michael and Kay together because that's when we see shades of the original two Godfather films. Fantastic work together. As a scene however, I love the flashbacks of the previous films showing Michael being happy, of the things he loved and, eventually, destroyed. That kind of flashback realism has been possible in film and it's powerfully used in the denouement.

I
“Aw, make time, consiglieri. Get in the car. What are you worried about? If I wanted to kill you, you'd be dead already. Get in. “

Always reminds me of Christmas growing up, nice to see Hagan doing something so normal and caring like shopping for gifts, only to be interrupted by a knife wielding Grinch. Tom is my favorite Corleone

II

“I enjoy watching football in the afternoon, one of the things I enjoy about this country; baseball, too. I've loved baseball ever since Arnold Rothstein fixed the World Series in 1919. I heard you had some trouble. Stupid -- people behaving like that with guns Important thing is, that you're alright. Good health -- the most important thing in the world. More than success, more than money -- more than power.”

Shows the history, and subtle power of Roth – I’ve always been a big Lansky fan.

III

I hated this movie – it did little but get worse with each added plot element in my opinion. If I had to pick a scene just for its visual and visceral impact it would be the street murder of Joey Zsa Zsa. I was just glad when the movie ended and the debate over which was actually a worse third part – GFIII , Mad Max III, or Jaws 3D?

GF1 - You have to answer for Sonny, Carlo. Drink, drink... there is a car outside waiting to take you to the airport... Tom, tickets? Now who approached you?

GF2 - When Michael hears Fredo say, "Johnny Ola brought me here..." that look on Michaels face. Then the kiss of death.

GF3 - I know FFC wanted to go a certain direction with Michael... I just was not hot for this story. I like the attempt at going legit... but Michael was sooooo... weak at this point. Only thing that could have saved it was Vincent saving the family. He didnt.

With that said... my fav scenes were...

negotiating with the archbishop and agreeing to 600 million from 500 million without much thought...anything to go legit.

Vincent and Connie as he swears loyalty. very powerful.

I am of course referring to the "Sonny-flashback" at the end of II. We see Mike slumped dejectedly in his chair after Fredo's death, a very heart wrenching end to the movie. Then the scene fades to Sonny saying...Hey, everybody, come on pay attention. The first time I watched this my heart almost stopped beating. For about .0000001 seconds I thought that he (Sonny) was still alive.

Probably because he still holds feelings of guilt (as evidenced by his confession to Cardinal Lamberto in Sicily) that he killed his own brother.

I liken it to Fred G. Sanford: "Oh, this is the big one! You hear that, Elizabeth?! I'm coming to join you, honey!"

I agree with Michael sitting by himself, but the Silent Scream is neck and neck with it.

But also there's a line that I will never forget. In the Saga (I think) when Vito is showing Michael his garden and Mike asks about Sonny and Sicily and says "won't they take that as a sign of weakness?" Vito amswers "It is a sign of weakness." Such honesty.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 08/17/07 01:31 AM

the greatest scene in ALL of film history is the scene outside where Don Vito tells Micheal that he had hoped to one day see him "pull the strings" it shows that the Don did what he felt necessary to protect his family and to allow them to have a bright future and for the family to be respected. This scene actually changed my life. And then of course the baptism/murder scenes are great.

In 2 I like the scenes with Micheal in Pentangelli's home, Micheal with Tom after the bedroom shooting, and Tom at prison with Pentangelli, as well as Vito sitting with his children after the killing of Fanucci-great shot.

In 3 I like the Atlantic City attack and the "they pull me back in" scene.

There are so many great scenes in the trilogy I could go on and on.

Wow... what a difficult question!

In fact, it's too difficult for me to give a definitive answer!

I could talk about the several standouts, but then this post would turn into a long yawn instead of a reply; I would prefer to be more brief and coherent...

Reading what everyone else had to say, I found myself nodding and saying, "Yeah, uh-huh... yup! That was an excellent moment!"

There were so many dramatic moments in all three movies that it is simply beyond my ability to nail down just one scene that I particularly enjoyed as being the best of them all. I'm glad to see that I am not the only person to express this sentiment!

This is a GREAT bulletin board!

Okay, I will mention one scene, because I found it to be amusing, romantic, and very heartwarming...

I loved the scene that takes place during Michael's courtship of Appolonia, and they're out for a stroll... with a gaggle of chaperones trailing behind them... with Franco Citti and the traitor Fabrizio bringing up the rear.

Yeah.

And Appollonia stumbles ... on purpose. I loved the dress she wore also.

I also loved the whole Enzo the Baker scene at the hospital where he says "For your father...For your father..." Then when Enzo is shaking and Michael is as cool as can be.

I go along with the scene when Michael is lighting the cigarette for Enzo and his hands are not shaking and Enzo is a mess.

Another great scene is when Micheal tells the others that he will koll Sollozo. That really shows what Micheal had, the frearlessness, intelligence, cunning, ect. It is the moment that defines Micheal and sets the course of his life. The way the camera pans in slowly on Micheal is great cineamatography.

For me, it's the Dons conference and the flashback scene at the end of GFII. Of course, the most profound scene is the silent scream.

Hi, I am new here and this is my first post, my favorite scene is the scene where Don to tell about his life to micheal before his death:

MICHAEL (reaching over, touching his father)

What's the matter? What's bothering you?

(then, after the Don doesn't answer)

I'll handle it. I told you I can handle it, I'll handle it.

VITO CORLEONE (as he stands)

I knew that Santino was going to have to go through all this. And Fredo -- well --

(then, after he sits besides Michael)

-- Fredo was -- well -- But I never -- I never wanted this for
you. I work my whole life, I don't apologize, to take care of my family. And I refused -- to be a fool -- dancing on the string, held by all those -- bigshots. I don't apologize -- that's my life -- but I thought that -- that when it was your time -- that -- that you would be the one to hold the strings. Senator -Corleone. Governor - Corleone, or something...

MICHAEL

Another pezzonovante...

VITO CORLEONE

Well -- this wasn't enough time, Michael. Wasn't enough time...

MICHAEL

We'll get there, Pop -- we'll get there...

VITO CORLEONE

Uh...

(then, after kissing Michael on the cheek)

Now listen -- whoever comes to you with this Barzini meeting --he's the traitor. Don't forget that.

What shoul I say, Great acting by Brando, this scene is my favorite scene of all the time, not just between The Godfather! Marlon is the best method actor, the best vocie actor, mimic actor ans all other fucking actors. He is THE BEST ACTOR OF ALL THE TIMES!

GF 1: The scene where Michael tells them, he'll kill them both. Everybody's acting in this scene is just great:
- Tom explaining in rhythmical gestures to Sonny about McCluskey ("Even the old man's political protection would run for cover")
- Sonny's ups ("The Turk shows one hair of his ass...") and downs ("Alright, the we'll wait.")
- Clemenza's chuckling
- Tessio's heartful laughing
- Sonny kissing Michael violently (he doesn't seem to care about the broken jaw)
- Michael's monologue (you can see him suffering from his aching jaw).

GF2: Young Vito watching through the window of his quarantine cell.

It's interesting that for GF3 the only acting scenes mentioned here are the final scream and Michael's confession. The helicopter scene and Zasa's killing have a good speed but you can't really say that they show any kind of brilliant acting.) I guess, GF3 just lacks strong scenes which include suspense, superior acting and drama. If any, I like the scene at Don Tomassino's coffin.

I have 2 agree with u when u said the best scene is when u c a young Vito looking out at the quarintine station. He looks so innocent and helpless and it's hard to believe that the young doe eyed boy will grow up to be the man he becomes. I also like the scene where Vito kills Fannucci and Don Ciccio

I like the Solozzo Meeting scene.

I like the Geary Meeting scene.

Vincent scene. What is your problem with Joey Zasa? No problem I'll take care of it. Thats foolish of you. Foolish of me? Foolish of him dont you think? HA?! HA?! Just say it ONE TIME!? ONE TIME?!

Mine has to be

GF1 The scene when Michael sees Apollonia for the 1st time and he knows he has his mate, and how he talks to her father.
Close 2nd Michael's shooting scene.
GF2 Michael sitting there thinking about his life.
GF3 Still trying to figure that out.

Re: Favorite Scene of whole trilogy - 01/12/08 04:41 AM

my favourite scene is at the end of GF II -the flashback scene with Sonny introducing Carlo to the family. It shows how the family interacted with one another, how Sonny seemed to be in control of the family- like introducing his friend Carlo to his sister, suggesting that they "get together", and when he got angry with Michael and with Fredo for shaking hands, it really shows the kind of "pecking order" in the family early on.

The Godfather part 1- The ending Carlo scene ("don't lie to me") and "dont ask me about my buisness." So basicly the ending.

Part 2- All the Roberto scenes

part 3- Right when I thought I was out they pull me back in
