The Godfather II Locations

The Godfather II Locations - 05/12/16 12:43 PM

I'm interested in finding the location of Don Ciccio's villa. No, it isn't Castello degli Schiavi, as so many believe, which was actually used in all three films.

Don Ciccio's villa is only seen twice, in GFII. First, for the death of Vito's mother, and his escape. Then, when an adult Vito returns to kill Don Ciccio.

I'd also like to find Tommasio's olive oil mill/facility, where little Michael makes a cute face when he tries an olive.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’ve been communicating with three of the producer/location people from GFII. They all remember the site, but it was so long ago, blah, blah, blah. They are all pretty old.

One, however, said he was sure it was in Catania, and described De Niro driving the car. So, I started searching in Catania. Catania isn’t merely a city, but a province as well. So, I started contacting anybody I could think of in the area, who might know. I managed to talk to a tour agent who knew the approximate location. She didn’t have an exact address, and said it is nearly destroyed. She also said she didn’t know who the owner was, but that it wasn’t accessible to the public. She said it is close to the town of Acireale, between Santa Tecla and Strazzo, which narrows it down further. So, I Google map searched that stretch.

I also figure, from looking closely at the second scene with the house, that it must face southward. Just before Vito guts Don Ciccio, you can see the sea behind him, and he is facing toward the left where Don Ciccio is snoozing on the front porch.

So, now all I have to do is drive up and down all the east-west running streets between Santa Tecla and Strazzo, looking to the right (north) for the house. Hopefully the front gate, or something is recognizable.

That’s the plan for now. I have a couple of contacts, that I got from my Hollywood producer contacts, who are in Rome, and apparently were location scouts for the film. So, I might be able to narrow it down further before I leave for Sicily in June.

If anybody has any other ideas, clues, thoughts, experience in the area, contacts, etc. please let me know. I’ll post pictures when I return in July.

That’s the plan.

I think Ciccio's villa and garden was even nicer than that of Tommasino so I see why you want to visit the place. Have fun.

Use one of the many free image hosting sites like postimage.org, tinypic, etc. They allow you to upload pictures from your device, and give them a web link, so that you can post them on sites like this with the [img][/img] code.

Today's Wall Street Journal says the Hearst Mansion in Los Angeles, where the Hagen/Woltz scenes were filmed, is on the market for only $175 million. Don't all climb over yourselves to put in bids...

Try the stable--it's been kinda empty for a long time.

I tried that. But they wouldn't consider it because of that horse's head thing.

I used to think about going in with people to share a sports item: Jim Palmer auctioned his Cy Youngs for charity several years, went for $60,000.00, so if twelve people put in $5,000.00 each you could each have a Cy Young Award in your house for one month a year.

In this case, if each person put in $10,000.00 you would need 17,500 people to raise the purchase price. If you did a time share, you'd have 48 people per night per year. It seems like there are 28 bedrooms in five different buildings, so this is probably workable if you got some rollaway beds or army cots or something.
