Which character would you have liked to play?

If you had the chance to play a role in "The Godfather" - which character would you have chosen?
(Don't be distracted from how they're actually portrayed. You can be tall and slim and still play Bonasera wink )
(I limited it to 21 characters. Sorry, if you were keen on the role of Tattaglias whore.)

This is only about the original Godfather film.
Maybe there will be other polls about GF2 and 3.

I voted for Tom. I think he always the voice of reason and knowledge. As consigliere to Vito I think he had great insight into the family business. Yes, he wasn't a wartime consigliere but he calmed Sonny down.

From a "You are an actor, what role do you want?" standpoint, I'd go with Sonny; I think I could really get into his character (that and everyone and their mother will likely say Michael :P).

From a "If I could be any character" standpoint, Johnny Fontaine hands down - movie star, singer, sleep with beautiful actresses, and can call in favors from Don Corleone.

Either Peter Clemenza or Don Tommasino.

I took Clemenza. He seemed to be a happy guy, enjoyed a good meal, and was well liked by everyone.

As the actor you wouldn't have had the chance to enjoy a good meal in that role. If I remember correctly, we see him eating twice - the Chinese food from a box and in the deleted scene a plate full of pasta.
And remember you would have to run the stairs 70 times. wink

He is not on the list, but as a matter of Trivia I learned that Rocco's surname "Lampone" means "raspberry."

I picked a young Clemenza. He was a dapper dresser and sly like a fox.

For me it would have to be Manolo. Yes, yes, I know that he doesn't appear in any of the scenes. But his influence on the film's characters is unmistakable.

This is a photo of my wife's family in Spain at the baptism of my brother-in-law Manolo's grandson in a 16th century church. Manolo (center with gray hair and brown suit), when he was younger with dark hair, looked exactly like the Manolo in the movie. I'm going to look for some 1970s photos of him and post them here, and I think you will agree. My wife is holding the baby.
