Clemenza promised the Rosatos "after" he died

It's said by Michael to Pentangeli that Clemenza "promised the Rosato Brothers three territories in the Bronx after he dies." Did Clemenza knew he was going to die from a heart attack anytime soon?? Sloppy writing or not?

We Italians are a pretty morbid bunch, and enjoy talking about what life will be like for everyone else once we're gone .

It's on par with Michael's opinion that Roth "has been dying of the same heart attack for twenty years," and Roth telling Michael that he'd run the whole legal gambling world "after I'm gone."

I doubt either of them wanted to believe they were going anywhere. They were just trying to appease their much younger competition by pointing out that the future belonged to them.

That's a decent explanation.
