Unanswerable Questions

Unanswerable Questions - 12/10/02 01:17 PM

There's always a lot of speculation here about the answers to questions which we really can't answer with certainty since we are not the authors of the screenplay or book. That, of course, is one of the things that makes these boards so much fun.

But...if you could have one question answered definitively by either Coppolla or Puzo (RIP), what would that question be?

Mine, of course, would be "Who killed the assasins in Tahoe after the attempt on Michael's life?".

Other suggestions, to get you started...

--What was Fredo's exact role in the assasination attempt?
--Exactly how many New York families were there?
--What did Clemenza really die from?

Remember, no answers on this thread. Only questions.

Re: Unanswerable Questions - 12/10/02 01:33 PM

Great topic P Lawrence!

I agree with: Who killed the assasins at Lake Tahoe?

Also:
Did Roth plan a "botched hit" on Pentangelli, or was it an adjustment to a failed hit?

Did Coppola plan the "images" to be as how they apppear in the movie of Michael and young Vito when switching between stories in GF2? Like, to have young Vito's face fade in right on Michael's face with both of their right hands on their faces, etc.?

Re: Unanswerable Questions - 12/10/02 01:35 PM

Good topic and great questions PLawrence!

I would ask:

What happened between GII and GIII? lol

Did Michael trust Al Neri more than he did Hagen? confused

What exactly did Roth/Ola offer Fredo to make him even consider betraying his own family?

Re: Unanswerable Questions - 12/10/02 01:38 PM

When did Fredo go to Cuba with Johnny Ola and for what purpose? Business or Personal?

Re: Unanswerable Questions - 12/10/02 02:24 PM

Great questions so far! I'd add:
--How did Hagen die?
--Who was Don Lucchesi?
--Why did Altobello betray Michael?
--Why did Archbishop Gilday conspire to deny Michael control of Immobiliare?
If I had the answers to those questions, I'd probably enjoy III a lot more than I have so far.

oh yeah another thing:

- What was the purpose of the scene at the party, where Fredo says "Im gonna get me a real drink, cause I can't..."

anybody knows for sure? maybe tell something about Michaels knowledge to Johnny Ola or something?

The purpose I believe was to convey that Michael was watching Fredo closely, now that he knew his brother was the traitor. Fredo's leaving the room to get another drink was insignificant. Michael asking him where he was going was significant. Once Michael surmized from Fredo's tone that he really was going to get a better drink, he let him go.

GFI
When was Vito born? lol
Why was Fredo not at the Don's funeral?
Why exactly did Michael diss Tom?

GFII

Who killed the assassins?
When did Michael first suspect Fredo?
How did Fredo get out of Cuba?
How did Michael explain Fredo's death?

GFIII

Francis, why did you make this? wink

Here's another question:

-How come Don Tommasino was still alive around 1979?
-How come Don Ciccio's family didn't try to avenge his death?

When you are Michael Corleone, you do not have to *explain* anything; especially the death of your traitor brother once you've had the decency to wait until your mother has died.

How come Nino Valenti (a character from the novel) didn't end up in the film? He was an old friend of Johnny Fontane, and he was present at Connie's wedding. They both sang together at her wedding.

How did Clemenza have time to plant the gun at Louie's Resturant in the Bronx? I mean, what makes you think that the place wasn't staked out, and plus who actually planted the gun? It had to be one of their guys in the Bronx, but they only found out where the meeting was only a few hours before it took place.

Re: Unanswerable Questions - 12/11/02 03:13 PM

For what possible reason would Fredo's trip to Cuba, arranged and hosted by Johnny Ola, including a trip to 'Superman's' club, be *personal*, when their primary reason for getting together was for Fredo to help out with the 'big deal' being negotiated between Michael & Roth, because if he did help them out, there would be something in it for him on his own? Where is there anything even approaching *personal* in that scenario??

Here's another question:
Why don't people pay attention to the dialogue when viewing the films?

Or The Godfather Waltz in the last scene when Clemenza kisses Michael's hand. I'll do anything to find that version. That version was also used in one Seinfeld episode. How did they get a hold of it if it's not on the soundtrack?

I also want to know how Don Tommasino lived so long?

Why did they cut any scenes at all from the movie?

What exactly with Clemenza betwee I & II

What happened to Tom between II & III
(I find it hard to believe that Don Tommasino could out live Tom)

Why the hell did they write a story where the two cousins fall in love in godfather III. That was just wrong.

Re: Unanswerable Questions - 12/12/02 02:34 AM

Puppeteer, it's a slightly different version. It starts around when Michael hugs and kisses Kay, and then she tells him that they both need a drink, and then it ends when Neri shuts the door. It's a variation of the main theme. I'm pretty sure it's not on the soundtrack cuz i have the soundtrack.

It wouldn't.
They found 1 1/2 Hours ahead of time.
A new unidentified Button Man could go to the restaurant, take a leak, plantt he gun, and be gone!

You'd THINK Sollozzo's men would stake the place out though!

Sollozzo said it himself: You think too much of me Mike, i'm not THAT smart.

Actually, in the Novel, the guy at the table next to Sollozzo was a Sollozzo accomplice, but NOBODy suspected Mike, when he saw Mike shoot Sollozzo he forze and Mike pointed the gun at him but the man was obviously unarmed! Also, not even McCLuskey thought of this, when he saw Sollozzo shot he expected Mike to turn himself inand relinquish the weapon, he never expected Mike too Shoot HIM!

As long as Clemenza did not stop to eat, he could have enough time to plant the gun or supervise the planting of the gun. I'll bet McCluskey wished he had frisked Mike when he came out of the bathroom. The veal must have been so good, McCluskey wasn't thinking.

Well, I've got to break my vow and respond to this question.

Just because Tom himself hadn't "...said anything to mama...", doesn't mean she didn't hear the news of Santino's death from someone else. With Sonny gone, Tom was in the position as temporary head of the house. It probably fell on his shoulders alone to break it to the still recovering Vito and all other family members, including Mrs. Corleone, stayed out of his room until The Don himself came downstairs to find out what was going on.

It would have been Tom's responsibility as consigliere to inform Vito and Mama. Who else could have told her? Crying for Michael maybe? (since he was in hiding). He went to college, went to war, so probably not. Mama always seemed to understand "this is the business we've chosen!"
