Mary and Vincent

Mary says to Vincent that she had seen him in a weeding before. But in a celebration party... Why Vincent didn´t know who was the Mary´s father if already they had been seen before? Or probably Vincent only wanted to play a joke to Mary?

Mary was 8 at the time of the wedding and Vincent was 15. He probably didn't hang with the 8 year olds.
