Vincent and Mary. Do you agree? - 09/20/05 08:24 PM

They are cousins! Do you agree they fall in love each other? I don`t think so, they are cousins.

I voted yes. I know it may be the only "yes" this poll is going to get. Anyway, the poll question is about falling in love: "Do you agree they fall in love even though they are cousins?" MY answer is a quotation from Blaise Pascal: "Love has reasons which reason cannot understand".

Re: Vincent and Mary. Do you agree? - 09/21/05 12:03 PM

I voted yes as well. People did this alot in the older times, why stop now. Plus if love is really that strong towards your cousin, Then so be it. Cousins ain't blood.

I'd rather see my sister marry her cousin than turning into a homosexual. Homosexuality is what's WRONG in today's world, i'd wish people would stick to cousin relationships than to fall in love with the same sex.

I KNOW this is not the place to discuss this, I know.
One short statement is all I'm gonna do:
Why is homosexuality wrong? That's how nature works. Most people love people of the other sexe, some love people of the same sexe, and others love both. Simple, what's wrong with that.
If anyone want's to respond to that, or doesn't agree with it, you can either: Open a thread in the "General board", PM me, or shut up. Cause I've already said to much stuff that shouldn't be in this section of the boards.

Re: Vincent and Mary. Do you agree? - 09/21/05 02:56 PM

Really quick answer to your question Enzo......it is not natural for the same sex to fall in love with each other.....nature intended for male and female to procreate.....two men or two ladies can not procreate. Plus, if you are religous, it is not allowed in the bible. Imagine if two men where all that was left on this earth.....could they procreate?? No way. Therefore it is not natural.....mankind would no longer exist if that was the case.

I think it is so disgusting to see a person with her sister, cousin in 1st, 2nd, 3th, 4th or 1000th grade. It reminds me The Family, the Borgia family I mean. I don`t have any personal problem with people who had chosen(or not in case it naturally worked)homosexuallity, but I don`t know if being in love with relatives is the worst thing you could ever do.
Despite Michael wanted a "respectable" man for Mary, I think he did not want Vincent for Mary because they are cousins. At least if I were Michael would do the same.

Re: Vincent and Mary. Do you agree? - 09/21/05 04:47 PM

I have voted not. The family in the mafia is an institution very important, especially in Sicily. The sicilian Don obeys to strict rules, linked to the interests of the family and the traditions. Maybe nowadays it is a bit more acceptable, but no in 1979. Michael was not wishing moral scandals. Besides, many marriages are agreed among families to have alliances and influence, but difficultly the marriages are for love, especially, among mafiosos. Michael was right.

I voted yes, I don't have any problems with Mary and Vincent being in love. But that's just me, for I'm rather "tolerant" about the matters of love. To love someone it's not a matter of reason, or choice - it's just pure instinct, and you hardly stand a chance against it. Mary and Vincent fell in love with each other; if that was to be considered proper or improper was just a matter between him and her. End of story.^^

Voted No.

I´m not that much of an GF III enthusiast anyway, but the Mary x Vincent love didn´t convince me, and not only because the incest was icky.

When I watched the movie (numerous times...) I never really believed Vincent was that much into Mary. She had a crush on him all right, she practically sought him out...but he never really seemed to take THAT much interest in her.
He seemed to like her, flirt with her, and my guess would be he was fascinated that she was the Don´s daughter and all. But he didn´t seem to love her, which made the whole "severe ties with your love for business"-turnout a bit anticlimactic to me.

But maybe it was simply the Garcia/Coppola-vibe not workin´, I´m not sure. smile

Best,
TM
P.S.: Hello, I´m new. blush

Welcome tomsmistress, Hope you are enjoying yourself

I agree it never seemed like Vincent was in lovewith her she was kind of just his play thing so it ruined some of the moments in the movie that could have been muvh more powerful.

I voted yes as well.

The whole Vincent/Mary pairing never bothered me in the first place. Not sure what that says about my morals lol

Love is a strange thing that just can't be explained, or turned off/on like a light switch.

Re: Vincent and Mary. Do you agree? - 09/24/05 05:09 PM

Yeah, I think they were in love as much as a lot of young people are or were. What is love anyway? It's up to the individuals involved to define it. Cousins, though, no way. Especially where sexual relations is implied and infered.

Homosexuality is considered a no-no mostly by religious people because scriptures frown on it. Sexual intercourse between males and females was intended for procreation. Marriage is man's invention. The purpose of sex between consenting adults of either sex is what the people engaging in it want it to be.

I voted no. It's your own blood. But I know, if you fall in love you cant do nothing about it....except just forget about it/her (hard when shes your cousin).
But I never can fall in love with my cousin, i mean you also can't fall in love with your sister....For me it's the same

Not to contribute an answer to the initial question, which was misleading...but the post above is a bit screwy.

First of all, in the cases such as that of Mary & Vincent...cousins most certainly ARE blood. Their fathers were brothers, who were born of the same set of parents. They are blood relatives.

Second, the fact that they fell in love is not what's to be agreed or disagreed with. You can't help who you fall in love with. Whether or not you ACT upon that love is what's up for discussion. Neither apparently let their biological bond get in the way (though Vincent may have tried at the beginning). Vincent's only motivation for finally giving Mary up forever was his desire to be Don Corleone.

Third, if you prefer incest to homosexuality it's your decision to make. However, if your (incorrect) argument is going to be that 'cousins ain't blood', then loving someone of the same sex ain't blood either. Again...you cannot help with whom you fall in love.

Because as you can see by reading the posts, a fellow BB member has proclaimed preference of love between cousins to love between two of the same sex. Though homosexuality wasn't a part of the initial question, it was introduced into the thread and therefore has been commented on.

If I had missed the post that started the (IMO) unmotivated comparison I would be dumber than I'm willing to admit, Apple! lol tongue

Well, you did admit to being dumb in that other post. Wasn't taking you seriously at first, but...

So in that case, I'll assume I've sufficiently answered your question.

It's no wonder Al hasn't yet proposed tongue

I don`t know him/her. I did not read anything which could explain if he or she is. I don`t think I asked something wrong. And the picture is kay/Diane Keaton, by the way. Do you know how to put in my profile a picture /avatar which does not belong to this site?
