Stone Breaker

In the confession scene cardinal Lamberto takes a stone from the fountain and breaks it: "Look! Perfectly dry."
I always wondered if he "did it before".
He does it with so much self confidence as if he knew that all the stones in the fountain are easy to break or he has the power or a special technique of stone breaking.
Lamberto the tough guy.

I always thought that was strange and the funny thing is that the chocolate arrives within seconds of Michael asking..
