Carmella Corleone speaks to Tom Hagen... - 07/04/05 10:24 AM

During Anthony Corleone's communion celebrations, Michael Corleone, Carmella Corleone, Tom Hagen, Connie Corleone, Merle Johnson, Frankie Pentangeli and a few others are sitting at a table eating. Before Frankie Pentangeli complains to Michael that he did not attend the celebrations to eat, he attended to talk to Michael about the Rosato Brothers in New York, Carmella says something in Italian to Tom Hagen, about Merle Johnson. What does she say? confused

Unfortunatly I don't understand Italian, but I think in the script she says something to the effect of: "Those two (referring to Merle and Deanna) are perfect for each other"

Basically, describing how alike Merle and Deanna were "tutte due in sieme", similar to our "two peas in a pod" saying.

Could Babe, Flora or Lavinia help me out with the exact words? Ma says "ma questi due - " (something something) "tutti due insieme" and Tom says "Hey Ma, - " (something something) lol I know we've just established the meaning of what they say, but I've never been able to catch the exact italian words they use. Would be much appreciated!

I'm not sure what you want. Ma = but; questi = these; due = two. Is that it?

Mama is talking about Merle and Deanna. "Ma questi due..." means "but those two" (she means it in a disparaging way.
and the next quote, which you may have a bit inaccurately, means "theyr'e all the same." Again this is a coment on how all Anglos are the same.

Thanks guys smile but I mean the rest of the actual italian words they speak, that we haven't already got written here. Mama and Tom say half of it under their breath, and I always wondered what the bits were that I couldn't catch.

Mama says "Ma quiste due..." then makes a hand gesture and says something beginning with P. Then Tom says "Hey Ma," then something that sounds like "ci me ne diciamo" confused I watched it with the english subtitles and that was one of the few sicilian exchanges which wasn't translated. And I don't have italian subtitles on my DVD. I'm sad, I know, but I always got distracted wondering how to say what they were saying.

I can't make it out either. But I think she's saying "when you and me take over the family, these two go first!"

I think we are supposed to get the gist of it only. What mama is really saying under her breath is "Tom I think you're going soft in the head with all that comedy you're playing with that young mistress. Never fool around outside the family again, or I am taking this to Michael so he can further humiliate you in front of other people some time."
