Great idea...Godfather prequel!!!!

Forget GF4...why not do a lucas and write about how antonio andolini got into a spot of bother with don ciccio!

Godfather, Part II was not only a sequel, but also a prequel. Lets not add anymore to the Godfather. We've tried it with GFR and we know how that turned out. If we want a good story, I say we should come up with a new one. I'm sure Mr. Puzo would say the same thing. Don't mess with the classics.

Yeah, we all know how GFR was, but don't you think FFC would make a better extension of the sage then Mark WG.
Like I've already said in the GF IV board, the main characters would be.
Young Vito Andolini, Pietro Clemenza, Salvatore Tessio, Genco Abbandando, Tommasino.

And Antonio Andolini, the fathers of Clemenza, Tessio, Genco, and Tommasino.

Also starring: Paolo Andolini, wife of Antonio Andolini, and maybe Vito had a sister. And Don Ciccio should be in to. Or perhaps family members of Cuneo, Barzini, ...

Storyline could be that the father of Antonio Andolini was a local (great) Don, but he had problems with an agressive Don Ciccio. When the father of Antonio died, Don Ciccio wanted to take over the power, but Antonio wanted do steo in his fathers shoes too, for which he had been murdered.

Enzo, 2 problems with your choice:
1)Since we know from GF2 that Vito accidentally met Clemenza and Tessio, young versions of Clemenza and Tessio and their fathers would re-write some of GF2 premises.
2)Vito was very young when his parents were killed. There could not have been much influence of Vito's father on Vito. When Vito's mother approaches Ciccio, Vito looks totally innocent and it would be impossible to establish a connection between vito's adult life and his expereiences before his parents' murder.

1. Oke, we could drop Salvatore and Peter, but Tomassino and Genco could play a role.

2. We could focus on Paolo and Antonio, and have Vito play a minor role. When Antonio shoots one of Ciccio's capo's, and Vito saw it accidentally, the next dialogue could occur: "I know it was you father, I saw you kill Fa... that capo." Maybe Vito wasn't that innocent. As we all know, he was very smart.

Or FFC could make a story from the moment Vito arrived in NY, until the beginning of the NY flashbacks in GF II. A teenage Vito trying to survive in a new world.

So many possibilities and combinations for a GF IV...

Or... someone could incorporate all that potential and make a new script, with new characters, new names, etc - so it doesn't reflect on the existing masterpiece if it goes wrong

The Godfather is a work of genius, but it's not the only time filmmakers ever got it right. If everyone had decided that the Godfather was the peak of cinematic achievement, so we should spend the rest of our lives only making Godfather-connected things, a) it would cheapen the Godfather currency, and b) we wouldn't have had Goodfellas, Casino, Scarface, Donnie Brasco, the Sopranos...

I agree, there could be a wonderful film made set in Sicily about the old-school Mafia before it moved to the US, but does it have to use existing characters?

No, but a story related to the GF (like including characters as their young, relatives) could be a great film, and it would extend the great GF saga with new storylines.

It also could work out as a medecin to put away GF III.
Then FFC can say: "This is it, the story ended", so that the saga ended with quality.

I would support a TV mini-series that tells the GF story that GFII didn't tell like the war with Maranzano and the Capones, the link between Luca and Vito, Michael et al as kids, and, generally, how Vito became so powerful. It's all there in the novel. To satisfy me though they would have to use actors who resemble Brando and De Niro in their GF roles. I think it could work as long as it was done with the same quality as the Trilogy.
