Read a story saying during the 70s after thomas eboli was murdered bufalino was called on as an overseer helping run the genovese family . Wots everyone's thoughts on this ?? I personally don't believe the story ,why would one of the most powerful families in the country call on the boss of another family to help run it wen they had Philip Lombardo and funzi tieri

It's an old story that's been discussed many times on the forums. I've never believed it. The Genovese family had any number of guys capable of running things without bringing in an outsider.

That's exactly what I thought ivy , I always found it a strange story , bufalino was a pretty powerful guy though considering he ran such a small family

It's an absurd theory. The Westside was flush in the '70s. The rumor was probably started by "The Arm."

But what was Bufalino's real degree of power even if he didn't have influence in the Genovese family? Was he a local or a national power? I honestly think that if he was really THAT powerful, he wouldn't have spent the whole 80s in jail, 2 convictions in a row.

Willie Marfeo to Henry Tameleo:

1) "You people want a loaf of bread and you throw the crumbs back. Well, fuck you. I ain't closing down."

2) "Get out of here, old man. Go tell Raymond to go shit in his hat. We're not giving you anything."

Bufalino owned some businesses in NYC, but I never bought the story that he ever led the Genovese.

Not a chance. And tommy Ryan was set up by Carlo some say. Drug debt I believe. Read it a while ago. I. Sure someone inside the west side was in on it to. Those guys are some crude businessmen whistle

Almost every boss spent the 80's in prison.

there was a lot of power full capos in that family at the time I think the commission told him to step in the family and mediate the disputes going on. so Vito dies in 1969 we never heard if there was a capo vote cause we here Phil the eye took over but scarpa wasn't snitching them yrs but in 75 he says funzi in charge. there got to be some stuff in those merry ferral files.

Benny Squint was the power in that family for that entire decade. No ifs, ands or buts. And Benny having Funzi front for him paved the way for Fat Tony fronting for Vince.

yeah pizza I agree. wats weird is lomabardo let funzi so much leway. how bout when that guy the weasel from LA comes to NYC I think he said 75 76. he's there on some union shit and says in his book there in back of a candy store and the west side guys funzi chin and I think fat tony have a vote to kill the guy they said hit hit hit like in casino. I forgot if he puts Lombardo there. its like Phil didn't have time for shit. we heard funzi rep them when demeo and the westies killed ruby stein and they wanted his book back. scarpa has him as the strongest guy in bk in the 70 tys funzi. he was close to Carlo. what a secret family. it be cool if the wcarpa files weren't so redacted or that word. I watching Mississippi burning I think with Sam jack and the whole thing turn out to scarpa going down there for the feds with his gun and finding them 3 guys crazy. guess the westside didn't have a scarpa in there family back then fish cafaro let a lot out thou but he pick and choose wat he wanted to say that prick needs a book were ever he is probably myrtle beach.
