That is kind of funny.

I did see Russell play, but in my early teen years I didn't have the same appreciation for the finer points of the game that I have today.

Back then, of course, the argument was all about Russell vs. Wilt. Now there's a guy who also revolutionized the game.

The only other thing I would point out before I'll agree with you that Jordan and Russell, or Russell and Jordan rank 1-2, is that Russell's rebounding stats can be misleading.

Back then teams were averaging well over 100 shots per game, not the 75 or so you see today. So there were a lot more misses, which led to a lot more rebounding opportunities. Wilt, Bellamy, Thurmond, etc. all had years when they averaged 20 or close to 20 rebounds per game. You couldn't lead the league then by averaging 12 or 13 like today.

I myself watch races like the Giro de Italia and Le Tour de France every year. Obviously Lance Armstrong and Miguel Indurain are there for 5 in a row. But then there is Eddie Mercx for Belgium and a couple others I cannot remember. And one must not forget Jan Ullrich, because without a doubt he would win if Lance wasn't there. Another mention of Phil Liggett. His commentating cannot be beaten, even though he wasn't the greatest cyclist, he is a great commentator

Michael Jordan

Joe Montana/Jerry Rice

Randy Johnson for this era. Too many to name for other times.

You can make strong arguments that Maddux and Clemens are better than the Big Unit, but there's no way that you can make that argument for Wells.

He's three shy of 200 wins, 1998 AL MVP, only lost once this season, has a spectacular curve ball. He's a damn fine pitcher in my opinion.

i agree with you on Phil Ligget, he is the greatest commentator on Cycling. Speaking of Eddie Mercx, he appeared in the movie American Flyers starring Kevin Costner. its an old movie but its worth ckecking out. the races and the musical score were awesome.

Sorry, but you're mistaken. He's 12-3 this season with a 3.80 ERA. He was not the 1998 AL MVP, that was Juan Gonzalez. He did not with the 1998 AL Cy Young either, that was Roger Clemens. He does have a spectacular curve, and he is a damn fine pitcher. I wasn't arguing with that. What I was arguing is that he is not anywhere near being in Randy Johnson's league as a pitcher. Here are some of their career stats:

David Wells
197-124 (61.4%), 4.04 ERA, 1844K, 0 Cy Young Awards

Randy Johnson
225-109 (67.4%), 3.08 ERA, 3789K, 4 Cy Young Awards

While Johnson is a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame, Wells is never even a shoo-in for the All-Star game. Wells is a good pitcher, but does not belong in any discussion about great pitchers when you're talking about Johnson, Clemens, and Maddux.

Maybe you remember 1998 because that was the year he pitched a perfect game.

Greg Maddux has declined to some point, still an amazing pitcher but not what he used to be. It's hard to be a great pitcher and have no defense/offense behind you.

I enjoy watching sports, as much as that surprises people. But I'm not big on following any particular person or team. here are some that I know or like for one reason or another. I'm certainly no expert on this.

Football - Coach Jon Gruden (didn't they win this year? A friend of mine has a crush on him.)
Soccer - ?
Baseball - Tug McGraw
Basketball - Coach Bob Knight (I am forever a Bobby fan - FOREVER), Michael Jordan (because he's a great guy and so talented, was not so talented in high school and that's so inspiring)
Boxing - ?
Snooker - ?
Pool - ?
Billiards - ?
Tennis - Pete Sampras, Venus & Serena
Golf - Tiger Woods
Formula 1 - ?
Rallying - ?
Athletics - ?

Okay, so a lot of that is left blank!

Geoff Hurst decided the World Cup final 1966 for England. He scored a hattrick in the final

Sports to consider (you can add more):
Football Jim Brown
Soccer Pele (the only one I know)
Baseball Babe Ruth
Basketball Michael Jordan
Boxing Ali
Snooker ??
Pool Steve Mizerack
Billiards Steve Mizerack
Tennis John McEnroe (maybe not the best, but fun to watch)
Golf Jack Nicklaus
Formula 1 Emerson Fittipaldi
Rallying ??
Athletics Carl Lewis
