Cell phone policy within the mafia. Why allowed?

Cell phone policy within the mafia. Why allowed? - 03/15/24 04:58 PM

Just curious as to why bosses allow their soldiers and associates to use cell phones or more importantly smart phones?

I can see a standard flip phone being allowed but smart phones should be banned. Too much bad shit can happen with smart phones in regards to people tracking you and finding out information.

Also who wants a soldier who is constantly posting on social media? Good way to incriminate yourself or just let the wrong people know what you are doing.

Posting on social media in general should not be allowed in my honest opinion and if you are involved in the life I'm not really sure why you would want to do that in the first place. Every phone I'd have would be a burner phone with a number that isn't connected to me personally. Different area codes and so forth.

It blows my mind that you can go on Facebook right now and see multiple made guys with legit accounts. Its just fucking weird and I don't understand it.

If I'm a boss and some guy of mine was posting on social media well guess what? I'm calling him in for a meeting and I'm taking his cell phone away. Then if he doesn't listen, I'm gonna fuck him up bad enough where the last thing he's gonna be doing is posting on social media. He won't be able to use his hands or fingers.

A phone isn't incriminating anyone unless you're using it for committing crimes or bringing it with you when you commit crimes and even then how many times have we seen law enforcement use a mobsters cellphone location to make a case? If you're talking on the phone about criminal acts you're just stupid and deserve to be caught.

No one is posting "just broke Tony's knee caps because he owes me money" on social media so simply having a account isn't incriminating anyone either.

There is a current soldier (Not gonna name what family) who posts photos to Pinterest of himself and saying how he's a made guy.

Who the fuck does this? Broadcasting you are a made member of the mob. WTF?

Mafia101 you gotta agree that is not right.

I assume you're talking about Paul Carparelli? I've never seen him say he's made and I think it's pretty unlikely he is. Whether it's him or not or if he's made or not it doesn't matter. Being a made guy isn't illegal.

Having a cell phone and social media is normal. Being in the mafia committing crimes isn't right.

You do not agree with my hypothetical question and I can respect that.

We will agree to disagree.

Maybe I'm out of touch, but where the hell can you even get a flip phone these days?

Does beg the question why more burners are not used. Yes I get the hassle but hassle VS 10-30 years? To each their own

If I was the FBI director I would say this__ " Hey guys, if you see any Italian looking guys NOT carrying a cell phone, follow them".

None of these guys are talking seriously on the phone, and I highly doubt they're bringing their phones to meetings. Whats the difference between today's cell phone and yesterday's landline for one of these guys in the life? If they say something stupid, they deserve it. If they're incriminating themselves on social media, they deserve to get locked up for stupidity. I have yet to see anything of the sort as far as social media.

Flip phones are fine. Smart phones on the other hand are no good.

There is no reason for a made guy to be using social media. None.

So it was okay for made guys in the 50's and 60's to be seen publicly with politician's and celebrity's, but a Facebook post is out of line? I'm not disagreeing with your idea, but a lot of these guys aren't exactly ego-less. Its a funny thought to think of, a guy getting shelved for using Instagram. What a time.

Lmao.

When you use social media for a lot of people it becomes addicting. Smart phones have tons of apps which also get addicting. Why carry with you something that's going to have more stuff connected to you and become a distraction? For example let's say a guy who is Made is out with his buddies one night has a few drinks and decides to post random things on Facebook or Instagram? He wakes up the next day and realizes that he posted some stuff he shouldn't have posted. But it's too late because it's all over social media now. If he would've just had a basic flip phone he doesn't have access to social media therefore that never would've happened. Use a basic flip phone. What is the big deal?

Guy in a tracksuit in his 30s or 40s with a flip phone? Feels like that draws more attention than anything. A lot of these guys are also degenerate gamblers, I'm sure you know that too, so regulating what may or may not cause them addiction issues is kinda just odd. If a guy is so weak that he's getting addicted to Words with Friends - was he really LCN material to begin with?

Unfortunately as we know from past experiences there's some guys who are connected that want to be in the limelight. Smart phones should not be allowed.

Didn't Massino make a rule about no phones, watches, or any electronic devices allowed at meetings or sit downs?

He's smart! I wouldn't allow any phones in social clubs either that have current made guys or associates as members.

Well Massino wasn't that smart. He flipped and then his fatass spent the rest of his life in witness protection.
