The "Bug" Jobs! - 03/12/24 08:20 PM

Organized crime has provided us with lots of colorful nicknames. Some were funny. Some were scary. Some were just weird.. Mobsters have been nicknamed for their looks, such as Big Nose Jimmy, Fat Frankie, Skinny Tommy and Cockeyed Joey. Some guys were named for their criminal propensity or legitimate vocation such as Tommy the Battler, Nick the Baker, and so on...A popular nickname were variations of the name “The Bug.”

So here’s the challenge…The six hoodlums listed below were each named “The Bug.” Five were from New York Families, one was from Chicago.

Your job is to identify each one. Match the letter of each nickname with the corresponding number of the Family they were affiliated with. For instance, you could say, A-3 or C-2.

Have at it fellas. Let’s see how many you can name in this latest quiz about mobsters and their nicknames.

Lol. Turnbull, flipping the script a bit, I see? I'm game.... How could I forget such a notorious fellow like Charles (Charlie the Bug) Workman. I believe he was affiliated with the Jewish mob, and by extension, the Lansky/Luciano crew.

Yes, Turnbull, I do remember that. In fact, thats probably the major reason why I know his name, From the Dutch Schultz hit at The Palace Chophouse in NJ. That famous scene where Schultz is slumped across the table. (with that big mirror reflecting in back of him - if memory serves correctly.)

No doubt. I remember. Both Martin (Buggsy) Goldstein and Harry (Pittsburgh Phil) Strauss were convicted of murdering "Puggy" Feinstein and were sent to the electric chair at Sing Sing Prison, Upstate NY. All courtesy of their former good friend and fellow Murder Inc. member, Abraham (Kid Twist) Reles, who had turned canary.

The follow up was Reles getting thrown out of a window, (while being "guarded" by policemen,) at the Half Moon Hotel in Coney Island....which was famously reported on by local newspapers as the "Canary who could sing, but not fly." lol
