Silent Killers - 01/25/24 09:06 AM

More then few days ago I watched one interesting video regarding Meyer Lansky and according to one of his old associates, besides being quite violent, mobsters like Lansky and Red Levine were allegedly also known as "silent killers", meaning sometimes they used poison and other sophisticated methods to eliminate their targets.

This reminded me of one situation which included Genovese heavyweights Angelo "Gyp" DeCarlo and Anthony "Tony Boy" Boiardo. According to DeCarlo the “best” way to do it is.....DeCarlo: “Tony boy wants to shoot you in the head and leave you on the street or would you rather take this (heroin shot), we put you behind your wheel (the victim’s car), we don’t have to embarrass your family or nothing.”

So we can only assume on how many victims were killed in that same fashion and their cases ended up as "drug overdose".

Former Riviera publicist Ed Becker, now deceased, once said that Lucianos death was quite suspicious because before he met the movie or book agent, Luciano had a cup of coffee before his fatal heart attack.

Also, some researchers say that the 1989 alleged suicide of mob informant Gerald Scarpelli was quite suspicious.

Do you guys have any other similar examples?

First time I’ve heard of poisons being used. I thought long gun sniper assassinations like how Niccolo Rizzuto was killed in Montreal to be rare as well.

Its the best way to whack someone without anyone finding out they were murdered. You know where they get their drugs from, so you have the guy give them some cut shit that is deadly when he gets his next supply. Then he drops dead and the problem is eliminated.

Back in 1954, during the conflict between Ricca and Accardo, both victims Paul Labriola and Jimmy Weinberg were allegedly first poisoned before being garroted to death. Labriola and Weinberg were known for being two quite ruthless enforcers at the time and so the hitmen probably decided to disable them first with some type of poison, before sending them to the "other side".

Another example was James Ragen when during the late 1940s he was ambushed and was seriously wounded in the arms and legs by shotgun blasts from Outfit hitmen. While being still alive, he was taken to a nearby hospital and later he “mysteriously” died and some sources allegedly found traces of mercury in his blood.

I completely agree.

The use of cyanide was very often, since it killed quickly and was hard to detect during a toxicology test. It may be administered by injection or by putting it in food or drink, also by aerosol spray or by simply spilling it on the victim's skin. Besides mercury and cyanide, other poisons that can be used (also easy to find) are poison ivy, oleander and also nicotine.

Makes you wonder if we have had new hits being carried out that were ruled a drug overdose instead.

In addition, back in 1983 Grand Avenue crew member and also the Outfit’s main representative in Las Vegas, Tony Spilotro went to a trial in which he planned to contact the owner of the catering service which fed all 17 grand jurors, and so Outfit informant Sal Romano was sent to convince him to poison the food. In plane words, Spilotro planned to kill the entire Nevada grand jury and story goes that he allegedly worked out the plot but later for unknown reasons he cancelled the operation.

Correct me if Im wrong but i think a "sleeper" means somebody who spent most of his criminal career away from the government's radar and it is very little known about that individual.

Or, it could just possibly mean that the fellow in question hasn't gotten much rest lately so he decided to go to sleep...he became a sleeper, no?
