The State Of The Mob In Chicago: Winds Of Change Blowing In Windy City “Outfit,” Solly D, Jimmy I Preparing For Syndicate’s Future

January 7, 2023 — The Chicago mafia landscape is on the verge of a transition period in 2023 and the old-school Outfit bosses are taking the necessary precautions, preparing for their younger, more polished successors to lead the historic crime family into the future, sources on both sides of the law tell Gangster Report.

Seasoned Outfit shot caller Salvatore (Solly D) DeLaurentis has been the boss of the Chicago mob for several years now, but plays no role in day-to-day affairs, sources say. Instead, according to these sources, the 84-year old “Solly D” defers to his alleged underboss James (Jimmy I) Inendino, 80, and reputed street boss Albie (The Falcon) Vena, 74 and gives them autonomy in most leadership decisions.

If it's true that Sally Cards heads a faction with a couple of dozen soldiers in their 40s and 50s, and Fratto oversees his own "youth" faction, then we are looking at an organization that has been inducting a lot of guys in the past 10-15 years. It literally goes against everything we've been led to believe about the Chicago Outfit. I don't believe they are anywhere near their former glory, but reports of their demise might have been exaggerated.

There is way too much crime in Chicago for them to ever be defunct. The amount of corruption from the street level all the way up to the politics there is absolutely insane. Is the outfit as powerful as they were? Absolutely not, and probably will never retain the power they once had, but neither will any family in the US. There will always be opportunities for the Chicago family to have a strong influence as well as many big money making opportunities. Question for me has always been whether there was enough new blood in the organization for them to continue on.

Scott doesn't offer monthly membership, it's a full year. I like Scott's Michigan and Hoffa reporting as he, it appears, truly has sources (or better, opinions) on both sides of LE. I'm concerned the remainder of the areas covered are direct from the FBI. For example, the Little Al Grecco reporting; that was clearly direct from LE not happy he was being released.

This is the exact reason you have only had hardly any made guys flip in the history of the outfit.

There are plenty of guys right now who are made today and in years past that aren't even on any FBI Charts you can find online at the moment.

Do we all agree that Paul Carparelli and Bobby Panozzo still have some potential in the future if they csn both stay out of trouble.

Re: The state of the Outfit in Chicago. - 01/14/23 02:57 AM

soooooo much to un pack in that article so little brain left.

-joseph andriacchi named yet again as consigliere? long been recognized as such if u believe the outfit even has such a title which i do not. andriacchi has been around a long time where is the proof he holds this mythical title. there have been a ton of indictments in chicago from 1980's and 90's detailing the outfits grip on the city. there have been more in the early 2000's and less so 2010's. never has andriacchi been named as consigliere anywhere ever. and giving a guy a ceremonial post and he dont have to earn? possible that andriacchi gets an envelope for time served but consigliere no way.

-john matassa jr. as acting consigliere? from above you can tell my opinion on consigliere role so an acting one no way. the outfit has never had acting anythings...capo underboss, boss. guy goes away a new guy steps in. and re read from the article matassa set to take over as top advisor to SOLLY D, JIMMY I AND VENA?? that makes no sense. what advice or counsel is matassa gonna give to those 3? finally matassa was indicted in 2017 no mention of being acting consigliere. so when and for what reason was he alleged to be acting in this capacity?

-cicero crew i would still put in firm hands of JAMES INENDINO along with being overall UB. this is not unusual for outfit jackie cerone had same set up when he was ub still running elmwood park. cautadella being an outfit member sure...acting ub no way and when did he hold this title in the 2000's? dino marino has long come up as some kind of buffer for DELAURENTIS this is first i've heard of him holding any authority over territory but would place him on cicero side of outfit things.

-rudy fratto was the acting consigliere now? when why for who? marco d'amico? where does this come from now. capo of elmwood park seems like a stretch also. he has been id'd as made member of outfit in indictment from 2010 but where is the proof that there is even a functioning crew. briefly acting consigliere in 2010's for DELAURENTIS...laughable.

-chris spina as acting capo? ALBERT VENA is STREET BOSS/capo of grand ave crew. spina has never even been arrested seems like a stretch to gloss him with acting capo status.

will have more to say on outfit later this above article clearly triggered me.

hard to figure chicago out structure/admin wise and should be for us amature sleuths my guess is they r down to 2 large crews cicero and grand avenue with members falling in line between the 2.

more to follow.

I know who you're referring to but won't say his name since it's unconfirmed and wasn't originally shared here and his name has never been mentioned on the forum or publically linked to the Outfit or Outlaws. This was shared privately to someone and I don't know if that someone was given permission to share it else where.

What I will say is it was never said he's the new go between between the Outfit and Outlaws

Re: The state of the Outfit in Chicago. - 01/23/23 05:46 PM

there has been a lot of discussion on this forum about current state of the OUTFIT going into 2023. the following is breakdown of the alleged 4 remaining street crews.
i will make no attempt to prove structure or overall leadership of these crews.

note: as mentioned above i alleged the presence of 4 street crews. there still is debate if the chicago heights crew exists or if at some point in the early to mid 1990's the crews territory and membership was brought under control of the 26th street crew/ southside. i am of the belief that under the leadership of john monteleone any and all remnants of the chicago heights crew came under the 26th street/ south side crew. also in 2005 family secrets trial both marcello brothers were identified as members of the melrose park crew. melrose park operated as crew separate from cicero i believe at one time being led by sam carlisi in 1980's and then james marcello in 1990's up until his imprisonment. anthony zizzo became crew boss up until his 2006 murder/disappearance. i am of the belief that melrose park no longer exists as a separate crew, any and all remnants would now fall under the cicero crew. finally there exists the possibility that todays OUTFIT consists of 2 large crews CICERO AND GRAND AVENUE with all remaining members and associates falling in line under the 2.
-thoughts on all the above would be appreciated and judgement free...unless totally ridiculous.

note: names in bold are best guess MADE MEMBERS/SOLDIERS. will not define capos/crew leaders.

elmwood park crew
1.JOSEPH ANDRIACCHI
2.JOSEPH DIFRONZO
3.ROBERT ABBINANTI
4.RUDOLPH C. FRATTO
5.ANTHONY R. DOTE
6.carl dote (associate)-brother to anthony.
7.william daddono jr. (associate)-brother in law to fratto.
8.william degironemo (associate)-once arrested with fratto.
9.gino cassano (associate)-brother to angelo,vito and dominick.
10.gioacchino galione (associate)-arrested with gino cassano 2021 as part of extortion scheme.
11.alphonse mitria (associate)
12.anthony buttitta (associate)
13.dominic buttitta (associate)

-5 MADE MEMBERS/SOLDIERS with 8 associates. i am not sure who cassano, mitria and the buttittas would report to if still criminally active.

grand avenue crew
1.ALBERT VENA
2.CHRIS SPINA
3.ROBERT DOMINIC
4.JOHN MATASSA JR.-continuing debate over what crew if any he belongs to. other possibility would be cicero but can find no proof of this. matassa jr. was at some point the crew leader of old north side/rush street crew. the north side/rush street crew was absorbed into grand avenue to the best of my knowledge in the 1990's. there also exists the possibility that matassa jr. operates across all crews similar to anthony ortenzi. this may be where the unproven claims of him being consigliere may arise from.
5.ROBERT PANOZZO (Imprisoned)
6.robert urbinati (associate)-former member on centracchio crew.
7.bruce principato (associate)
8.david perez (associate)-one time associate of deceased charles russell.
9.frank obrochta (associate)
10.louis capuzi (associate)
11.brian david (associate)
12.fred pordyla (associate)-possibly deceased?

-5 MADE MEMBERS/SOLDIERS with 4 currently on the street. principato, perez, obrochta, capuzi and davis all have past arrests for burglary/robbery.7 associates.

cicero crew
1.SALVATORE DELAURENTIS
2.JAMES INENDINO
3.DINO MARINO
4.SALVATORE CATAUDELLA
5.ROBERT BELLAVIA
6.EMIL SCHULLO
7.MICHAEL SPANO SR.
8.michael spano jr. (associate)-son of sr.
9.michael marcello (associate)-brother to james and currently imprisoned.
10.vito r. scavo (associate)
11.william didomenico (associate)
12.natale s. saraceno (associate)
13.dino vitalo (associate)
14.john amabile (associate)
15.michael davis (associate)
16.paul carparelli (associate)
17.dominic poeta (associate)
18.casey szaflarski (associate)

-7 MADE MEMBERS/SOLDIERS with 11 associates.

26th street/south side crew
1.FRANK CARUSO
2.NICHOLAS FERRIOLA
3.NICHOLAS GUZZINO
4.bruno caruso (associate)-brother to frank.
5.leo caruso (associate)-cousin to frank and bruno.
6.william pacella (associate)
7.arthur nuzzo (associate)-son of sam nuzzo sr.
8.sam nuzzo jr. (associate)-son of sam sr. and brother to arthur.

-3 MADE MEMBERS/SOLDIERS with 5 associates.

-total possible members and associates...
MADE MEMBERS/SOLDIERS=20
associates=31

-all of this is an attempt at total numbers. i am under no illusions that there are more active members/associates in chicago today. i do not live in illinois or chicago so i am not able to obtain info direct from the street via bars and neighborhood gossip. some sources used to find these names include...indictments,arrest records, chicago tribune and suntimes articles, laborers OC reports,abc7 local chicago online articles, reddit, american newspost and current/past contributions on this website/forum.

12th Street Players have a history with the Outfit. Paulie Carparelli and Mike Sarno were members.

When you think about logically for a minute.

The family has had only one made member that ratted and he wasn't even high level.

How many major cases have been brought against them?

With the two above being facts there is most likely so much that just is not known about the history and the current affairs.

great work VitoCahill.

What about Pietro LaBalestra? On other forums some posters claim he owns/controls several “zip” social clubs in Addison and that he’s definitely active. Mostly drugs and gambling. Possibly made. These posters claim LaBalestra and other Sicilians belong to Elmwood Park. He was one of the zips busted in the 1994 “Operation Espresso” targeting illegal gambling dens in the back rooms of Sicilian-owned cafes, restaurants and clubs in the Northwestern suburbs. Giuseppe Vacari was later gunned down and his body set ablaze in his restaurant. Ottavio Volpe is doing life for organizing a robbery in FL that ended up with the death of a wealthy old lady, killed by hired goon Anthony Carcione.

and thanks for the props luan.

The media were the ones that turned it into a hate crime. The black kid had been terrorizing the kids yelling racist slurs in the neighborhood, stealing their shit and actually taking off with their footballs on his bike. Frankie had enough of his bullshit and chased him down to send a message.

Re: The state of the Outfit in Chicago. - 09/14/23 06:39 PM

looking for some insight on a hypothetical idea i have been pondering. while i mostly spend my time attempting to figure out the intricacies of the mafia in mtl, something always pulls me back to chicago. there is a clear line on this forum amongst chicago outfit aficianados and mob watchers in general. one side believes that much like all other mafia families in US the outfit is a shell of its former self and holds almost no influence or power in the city, with an old and diminishing membership. the other side believes there is still a fully functioning structured outfit operating, yet on a smaller less noticeable scale, with a younger group of members allegedly starting to emerge. i put myself somewhere in the middle, leaning closer to a viable, functioning outfit.

but to those that claim it is a shell of its former self...of course it would be. how could it not. the outfit in the 60's and 70's even into 1980's was the most powerful mafia group in the u.s. it is not that now obviously, so by that rationale it is not the same. but that does not mean it has not changed both structure and area of operations like any secretive organized crime group should.

so i digress from the above abe simpson like diatribe to my original thought. is it possible that the current chicago outfit circa 2023 going into 2024 still divides the city and suburbs geographically? my thought being is it divided by west north avenue/the 64 running from lake michigan/downtown chicago almost on a straight line west all the way out of the city and suburbs proper? other theories in the past have used the eisenhower expressway as this alleged division line. in this theory any territory north of the 64 would fall into control of an area now under control of street boss albert vena. territory south of the 64 falls under control of whomever now leads the other area...i.e. frank "toots" caruso or salvatore cataudella or an unknown senior member?

the only other possibility as i have stated previous is that no territories exist and it is open season on all potential rackets.

finally what do some think of the status of the remaining street crews. grand avenue, elmwood park, cicero, 26th street?
is there still 4 main crews operating in the city or has even this number decreased or consolidated into 2 now larger area street bosses?

my thoughts being...
street boss (north)
albert vena
controlling the remains of grand ave and elmwood park.

street boss (south)
frank caruso-only alleged
controlling remains of cicero and 26th st.

looking for any insight into all this from those in the know about the outfit currently. i am not looking for historical answers to these current questions. where or what territory some of these crews used to control is irrelevant to this discussion unless there is some proof or accuracy to the info from at least the 2000's. an example of this could be info concerning the former chicago hts. crew. i am of the opinion that the chicago hts crew no longer exists and has not for a long time. untila name comes along or a significant bust concerning some outfit connected crew emerges there has been no real outfit operations in the heights and area since the early 90's. i am not saying there is no crime in this area or any crimes connected to the outfit in this area, but as of now we do not know who they are or if the outfit even continues to hold sway in these areas.

as has been seen with some of the larger gambling busts lately it does not take an army of men to control a large scale gambling ring. the days of 20-30 man arrests for running a sportsbook are gone. most connected to the outfit lately involve a leader w a few agents taking bets, which are funneled through a costa rican based web server. this looks to be the standard M.O. across most mafia families recently. how many men were busted with carparelli for collecting debts? 7. one small group collecting money for one crew of outfit, not all the crews. all to say the vast pool of muscle and low level workers is not necessary in this day and age for the outfit or any mafia family really. we cannot be surprised if membership is smaller than in the past, there is no cause to have that many people working for you. less rackets and territory can only equal less members required.

Then why dont you give us your own opinion, not the one which was created by previously posted opinions from other posters. I just posted the thread so you can see the discussion...and I even answered your same post...but you obviously didnt saw shit frown

Re: The state of the Outfit in Chicago. - 09/15/23 01:59 PM

i did give an opinion/hypothesis above. i dont think my above theory is borrowed directly from any one poster. it contains ideas from others and is by no means completely original, but then again what idea ever really is...completely original. there has never been as far as i can tell the idea of chicago now being cut in two by north ave. this idea may be far fetched but not one i had seen or thought of before. also the idea that there is no set territories in chicago and its more open or every outfit member for himself is a question that has not yet been answered. only those in chicago would really know for sure, if they dont feel like giving out said info thats fine. same can be said for who the top 3 currently are. it is assumed to be...

BOSS
SALVATORE DELAURENTIS

STREET BOSS
ALBERT VENA

STREET BOSS
FRANK 'TOOTS' CARUSO

...as of sept 2023.

i did not mean for my post to anger anyone it was not made in jest or annoyance simply an honest question. i always value any and all criticisms, queeries and questions.
