2 big LCN questions - 09/03/22 01:31 AM

Sonny F himself alleged he killed at least 10 people, do we have the names/reasons of the people he murdered? Who are the oldest LCN members today? Associates to bosses.

We can only guess. No one knows if he killed that many, or more.

New York mafia legend John (Sonny) Franzese is a man linked to dozens of gangland slayings; some he carried out, some he ordered, some were sanctioned by his rivals to hurt him.

Here are some of the most notorious mob murders related in some way or another to the last of the old-time mafia bosses. Check out S.J. Peddie’s new book Sonny: The Last of The Old-Time Mafia Bosses, released late last month by the Citadel Press and based on Peddie’s exclusive tell-all interview with Franzese’s life.

The Sonny Franzese Hit List (1952-1994)

March 8, 1952 — New York clothing salesman Arnold Schuster is shot to death outside his Brooklyn home by a mob hit team. Schuster had given police the tip that took down famous bank robber and mafia asset Willie Sutton.

June 8, 1962 — New York mob figure Joe (The Fish) Vitelli is gunned down jogging in a Brooklyn park for the belief that he was informing on Profaci crime family drug rackets.

August 24, 1964 — Genovese crime family hit man Ernie (The Hawk) Rupolo is found in the Jamaica Bay in Queens, with a pair of concrete blocks tied to his arms and legs. Rupolo was slain for helping the government build a murder case against Genovese mob don Vito Genovese.

April 11, 1965 — New York mob associate Arthur (Artie Steaks) Rupolo – not related to Ernie the Hawk – is slain for cooperating with NYPD detectives on a series of drug-trafficking and hijacking i

nvestigations.

September 26, 1966 — Long Island bank teller and topless go-go dancer Irene Brandt disappeared on her lunch hour. Brandt danced at a club controlled by the Franzese mob crew.

October 9, 1974 — Colombo crime family capo Dominick (Mimi) Scialo is tortured and murdered for making an insulting remark to the Boss of Bosses at the time, Gambino mob chief Carlo Gambino, during a drunken rampage. Scialo had taken over Sonny Franzese’s crew when Sonny was behind bars serving his bank-robbery sentence.

April 26, 1975 — New York mob figure Billy (The Eagle) Rupolo, his wife and step-daughter are stabbed to death in their Bensonhurst residence and set afire. Rupolo’s brother was Ernie the Hawk Rupolo.

January 7, 1981 — Colombo crime family capo John (Johnny Irish) Matera disappears on orders of the Persicos for skimming drug proceeds, Matera was Sonny Franzese’s bodyguard and driver and controlled Colombo rackets in South Florida.

May 20, 1983 — Colombo crime family up-and-comer Lawrence (Champagne Larry) Carrozza is shot to death getting into his car in Brooklyn. Carrozza was best friends with Sonny Franzese’s son, Colombo capo Michael (The Yuppie Don) Franzese, and romancing his drug-addled daughter Gigi. Rumors swirled around reasons for Carrozza’s murder, who ordered it and who okayed it.

November 28, 1988 — Colombo crime family consigliere Jimmy Angelina is shot to death in the New Jersey residence of a Colombo button man and is the first body to drop in the Carmine Persico-Vic Orena beef that would play out over the next half decade. Angelina, a former acting boss, was close to both Michael and Sonny Franzese.

August 12, 1994: The Body In A Box Hit — New York mob associate and thief Louie Dorval is found shot to death and floating in a box in the Atlantic Ocean. Dorval was part of a Colombo crime family burglary crew that had killed a armored car driver six weeks earlier in a June 23 heist.

THIS is a complete bullshit list that this "investigative author" compiled to push her book. Of the eleven murders she lists, at least 75% of them have no "connection" to Sonny regarding his involvement in their demise. The few she does mention that do have either a direct, or indirect, connection to Franzese (and could have possibly met their end at his hand, or by his order) is still not explained properly.

I don't doubt that SF did a lot of "work" in his day, or was involved to one degree or another....in-fact, probably much more than 11 men to be truthful. But this compilation is a joke (and that's no joke!)

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 09/03/22 11:28 AM

As far as "old timers" still alive and kicking, there are many. Few of them are "active" nowadays from all the families, but they're still above ground, retired.

Like NYMafia said I dint think there is any doubt that Sonny did a lot of work in his younger days but as for names specifically we probably will never know

Thank you. Possibly with law enforcement sources we can find out. We'll probably find out in the future.

I believe all NY families still have members up in their 90s.

That is correct Hollander

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 09/05/22 08:47 AM

Oldest Bonanno members:

- Salvatore Marchese, 95
- Frank Porco, 93
- Joseph Indelicato, 91

Oldest Lucchese members:

- Frank Federico, 94
- Vincenzo Napoli, 91
- Joseph Truncale, 91

Oldest DeCavalcante members:

- Paul Farina, 96
- Gaetano Vastola, 94

If he's still alive Peter Caprio would be 93, making him the oldest Philadelphia family member. If we're excluding cooperating witnesses, the next oldest is Joseph Ciancaglini, 88.

Correct Chin. There are many others still around NY as well

Did any of them work under Carlo, Vito, Tommy, Bonanno and Profaci and are still alive today?

Are the Kelbie and Richardson family's the big 2 in Edinburgh?

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 09/21/22 07:11 AM

1st question.
2 hits in the 1940s while he was in Sebastian Aloi crew.
1 hit as a made member before becoming a capo in the mid 1950s.
2 hits ordered as a capo in the late 1950s.
Joe Vitelli, this hit is one of the the reasons that Joe Colombo made him his underboss. Franzese passed the order to one of his soldiers.
Dominick Scialo by members of Franzese crew.
John Matera by members of Franzese crew.
Lawrence Carrozza by members of Franzese crew.
There is more likely more that Sonny ordered as a capo and underboss, and even before being made and as a soldier.
That list, I dont believe cause it makes no sense why Franzese would be involved in Genovese business hits. The Jimmy Angelina hit, no way.

2nd question.
There are old members still around. I am sure there are some that were made when Bonanno, Gambino, Genovese, Lucchese, and Profaci were bosses, but the number has been dropping by the decade.

Like who?

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 10/03/22 04:19 AM

@Giacomo_Vacari.

Who do you think was made under Profaci that’s still living?? There’s probably no-one…

Lucchese; Probably no-one is living that was made under him.

Gambino, Maybe a few guys??

Genovese; Larry Dentico? Louis Manna?

Gambino; Maybe a few guys….

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 10/03/22 05:29 AM

Lucchese- John Campopiano
Gambino- Frank Basto, there are a few more.
Genovese- Louis Arminante
Colombo- Vincent Aloi
Bonanno, I think there is really no one left. They all died out. It is possible that maybe one or two might still be alive that we never heard of.

John (Johnny Echoes) Campopiano died October 7, 2018
Frank (The Bear) Basto died April 14, 2018

I couldn't find any specific death date for Louis (Gigi) Arminante, but I believe he's gone too.

The only one of the four mentioned that I know is still alive is Vinny Aloi.

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 10/03/22 04:16 PM

And there lies the problem, maybe more members in their 90's than in their 20's and 30's.

Usually they are on the 5 families chart list but I don't know any names. List some if you can. Possibly the eldest made members of initiation.

Of the few fellas I'm thinking of, only one is even on those charts (and he's otherwise largely unknown and never talked about). The others were never even placed on any charts or ever publicly identified. .

Forget about the charts of 2011. I'm speaking of the U.S. Senate charts going all the way back to the 1963 Valachi hearings. And the subsequent U.S. Senate Hearing charts of 1983 and 1988.

I’ve found Vic Orena but I’m looking for Vic Amuso and if people know other LCN prison number it would be greatly appreciated as I’m looking to send some mail.. THANKS!!
Posted By: LittleAl2021

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 07/11/23 01:19 PM

Orena has advanced dementia so a response is highly unlikely and according to the exhibits for Amuso’s motion for compassionate release, he can no longer send letters or even use the computer due to his condition.

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 07/11/23 05:08 PM

What about John Stanfa or Bobby Manna?

What’s wrong with Amuso?
Posted By: LittleAl2021

Re: 2 big LCN questions - 07/11/23 07:17 PM

Stanfa is old school and recently was moved out of a federal medical facility.I am not sure as to what his medical conditions are
Manna is 93 years old and suffers from Parkinson’s so a response from him is also unlikely.
According to his compassionate release motion, Amuso suffers from rheumatoid arthritis among other conditions
