Vic Amuso - 05/15/21 10:04 PM

Guys,

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before in great detail. I'm reading The Brotherhoods by Oldham and read on page 48. " Together, Amuso and Casso possessed a toxic combination of incompetence, violence, and paranoia."
If this above statement is true how come "Tony Ducks" Corrallo elected Vic Amuso to boss of the family? Amuso is painted as a violent paranoid hitman and then slandered by Oldham. I read that Amuso was being groomed for boss one day. What is your guys opinions about what Oldham wrote about Amuso or just in general about his overall leadership of the Lucchese family?

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/15/21 10:26 PM

It's actually a very good book, but they always slander those guys. Believe me when I tell you this, but Vic Amuso is one of the last great gangsters. Don't believe the journalists and don't believe the rats who say he was brainwashed by Gas. He was his own man and he was and remains loved on the street. There are some very good reasons for that. He was one of the last dons to actually take care of his own people and he went out of his way to ensure their safety. Vic always reminded me of that guy Christopher Walken played in King of New York. While he was ridding himself of his competition, he was also building children's hospitals

Don't know whether Amuso was really that paranoid himself, but the fact that he chose Casso as underboss already speaks volumes imo.

Tony Ducks gave him that position

And Amuso got stuck with him, Tony Ducks made a bad pick, I wonder if Casso changed drastically after the was chosen? I can't see him getting that spot if he was acting like he did after he had it.

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/16/21 01:43 AM

Who was a better choice then Amuso at that time?? I think he was a nice choice but there were better.

I think Mike Salerno.... old school; and was well respected.. It’s a shame he got murdered because he was LCN to the core...

I also think Anthony Accetturo (Jersey Guy) would have been a good choice;

I agree with you on Mike Salerno a great choice. Does anyone have a photo they could share of Salerno? I found only one bad one on the internet.

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/16/21 06:06 AM

I think Buddy Luongo would've been a great choice.

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/16/21 01:41 PM

No way for Tony Ducks to know Gas would turn into a complete sick-o .... most of those guys have problems dealing with regular life .... and Gas showed he belonged where he ended up ..... sick dude.

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/16/21 02:58 PM

Tony Ducks DID NOT APPROVE AMUSO AND CASSO.

Thats total internet bullshit. Those two are the very last he would have ever tapped to lead. They were Furnari's guys and Corallo and Santoro had nothing to do with them.

Ducks mistake is that he DIDN'T name a successor so these two screwballs seized power, killing Buddy Luongo in the process.

The combo of Amuso and Casso was the single worst thing to ever happen to the Lucchese Family. Those two basically destroyed the family from within. Two bloodthirsty paranoid guys.

And Casso led Amuso around by the nose although Amuso was too trusting and blind to see it. Casso was a prime antagonist. But Amuso was also no good for the borgata.

Just look what happened under their leadership!... the facts and 'fallout' speak for themselves. Bad! Bad! Bad!

And in 2021 the crew is still paying for the mistakes made thirty years ago.

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/16/21 03:01 PM

The only crew worse off than them are the Colombo who also were destroyed from a lack of strong and positive leadership.

Without "Intelligence" and level-headed thinking these crews are a mess. This bloodthirsty, selfish, greedy, and myopic viewpoints of a few assholes at the top of these crews are what busted them up worse than any FBI or prosecutors could have ever done.

And THATS a fact!

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/16/21 03:02 PM

Absolutely. Many mobsters have said Amuso was unsure of himself as boss so I’m sure that played a big part in him being influenced by Gaspipe. For Gaspioe he was basically able to call the shots while letting Amuso take the hits from the government

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/17/21 01:30 PM

I think Gaspipe getting shot really screwed him up/ traumatized him. He obviously had a predisposition to being a psychopath but this put him over the edge.

Ducks ordered the hit on Buddy because Buddy was trying to cut Ducks off from the family while he was locked up, he saw this as a massive betrayal from a previously very loyal capo. The contract fell into the laps of Amuso and Casso.

Mariano Macaluso got shelved by Amuso. How many others did Amuso have shelved instead of having killed?

Impossible to know but made guys can get shelved for any number of reasons that doesn't warrant a death sentence.

did you see in one of these mob YouTube things that someone stated that Vic's wife still gets a $200K package at the Holidays?

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/19/21 05:38 AM

Pennisi said that, at some point, each Lucchese soldier was ordered to give 1000 USD to pay for Amuso's Lawyer.

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/19/21 10:57 AM

From a federal appeals court habeas decision regarding Chris furnari:

The hearing examiner requested that Kelley submit further information regarding murders by the family, and afforded Furnari's counsel the opportunity to respond to information provided by Kelley. Kelley detailed fourteen murders committed by members of Furnari's crew during the time he was capo and consigliere. At least five of these occurred after he became consigliere. Kelley further represented that D'Arco and two other sources had stated that, immediately before he was convicted, Furnari met with other members of the Lucchese family hierarchy to select successors. According to these sources, the meeting participants decided that Anthony Luongo would pose a threat to the new administration and should be killed. Casso and Vittorio Amuso were reportedly instructed to murder Luongo, and they did.

What do you mean at the holidays? Every holiday, federal holidays, certain holidays, or the Holiday Inn?

It was Pennisi, he said she'd run right down to AC blow it all.

I'm guessing that $200K is Amuso's Christmas bonus.

Re: Vic Amuso - 05/19/21 11:38 PM

Mac Macaluso was not shelved. He was asked to step down from the hierarchy and he acquiesced. Mariano Macaluso was already an old man and didn't care. He was also a non-combatant type guy, very very wealthy, and didn't need the headache of dealing with Amuso and Casso who were Brooklyn guys. Mac was a Harlem guy all his life.

So it was not a 'shelving' but rather a retiring of sorts. He was still highly respected as a veteran soldier

thank you ny mafia for the posts about amuso/casso. they were terrible as admin members and did indeed almost ruin that family and put it on par or just slightly above the colombos in power and influence...and thats not where you want to be as a family.
