The AC 500 Club

The AC 500 Club - 01/14/19 07:05 PM

Please accept my apologies if this has been approached before. I have an interest in the 500 Club that was a mainstay in AC for many years before burning down. In addition to Skinny D'Amato himself, his participation in the cities gambling and politics, his club was the place to be. Frank SInatra, Joe DiMaggio, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were a few of the celebrities who could be seen and/or performing there. I also believe I read Skinny actually suggested Martin and Lewis team up for the first time. I also believe Skinny had a hand in getting JFK elected. Now I don't know whether Skinny was a gangster or not, I do know his son is in jail for murder. So I was hoping some of the posters who are in the area of AC or was originally came from the area and know real stories about Sonny and the 500 club could share them. And correct anything I posted above if incorrect. Thanks

He was not called a gangster because he was in AC any other place he would of been a gangster and yes all those entertainers would roam Ducktown and of course 500 club was huge part of it.

His daughter married a cop Bobby P he is a Italian and was cycle #1 she is great people and so is Bobby .

Skinny was that best he took care of every local spots teams from Missouri ave to Jackson ave and let them all hold there banquets there .

500 club was several clubs in one .

The door man can’t remember his name black guy ,but he was a 7.2 in tall and his day job was union painter his wife was 6.6 wonderful people.

I am not going to say anything out of the way because Skinny was a friend and more to everyone that knew him .

But everything good you hear is true ...did he have pull because of his friends that loved him yes !

You may not get posts on this thread because anyone with info is 60 something or more and even though it was public place to get involved in any vices you had to know people.

If you’re ever in AC they have a historical marker on Atlantic Ave close to where the 500 Club once stood. I could try and take a picture of it next time I walk by which will be soon because I’m a degenerate.

Bass Pro shop took the block but before that in early 90’s the city built a lighthouse and a fake jetty on the entrance of the city that’s when it first changed.....in five eight years they leveled the lighthouse and jetty fora different entrance some laser light show or some shit.

Back then we had live music from rock and roll joints to piano bars Jazz clubs side shows three to every block it was jumping and 500 club always got the best of who was in town , even if they were up on one of the piers headlining or in a hotel in one of there small showrooms the entertainer always went to the 500 club for fun and or to do a quick show there must of been six bars in the club .

They would leave therego over to White House to get a sub... in the day they would go in sit in the back and put bets in on horses Joe DiMaggio was very close with he would get his hair cut across the street at Lou’s T barbershop and not once all the time then he would go down to TommyH card room next to Angeloni’s before it was Angeloni’s it was Club Madrid .

Tommy’s card room became someone in the life houseafter he got to old to run it.

Serp what was Nicky’s relationship with Skinny? Obviously growing up there I heard all the stories about Skinny I was at his funeral with my grandparents but was a small child and the 500 club burned down before I was born.

Also BTW was in AC again recently thinking I may have seen a very familiar face at Angelonis when I took my wife for dinner couldn’t be sure and he certainly would not have remembered me but Alan sat with him throughout the whole meal.
